RE: Retract Steps for Storage

I do exactly the same with my 2009 Bounder, but I take a folding step stool and place it just beyond where the retractable steps extend to make the step down easier...bad knees.

RE: dolly tow newby

With the front wheels of your Prius on a dolly the wheels don't turn and the steering wheel can be locked and key removed. Do check with Toyota about towing the car on a dolly as the rear wheels WILL be turning and I have heard of some modern cars having issues with the ABS systems not liking one set of wheels turning (rear) and the other set not (front). As a hybrid, double check that there are no issues with the rear wheels turning with the system turned off.

RE: rv manual

Other great sources of information are online manuals, maintenance guides and repair and parts information by each manufacturer of the various components. I have downloaded operational manuals and troubleshooting guides for my power awning, power jacks, generator, satellite dish, etc. If you download the files to a laptop and take it with you when you travel, you have them for reference at all times. Examples would be companies like Dometic, A&E, Power Gear, Onan, etc.

RE: Stay-IN-Play DUO supplemental-braking system

Just got back from our first trip towing our CRV with the Stay In Play system. Very easy to use, worked well, and no unit to remove and store upon arrival. I'm very pleased.

RE: New owner. Question about GVWR, actual weight & towing

Once your trailer is loaded I feel certain that you will exceed 5000lbs and be beyond the weight ratings for that chassis. Though the hitch (I have the same one) is rated to TOW 5000lbs. the actual hitch weight (actual weight being carried on the ball) needs to be checked as mentioned be another poster. If you are anywhere near 500 lbs. of hitch weight you need a weight distributing hitch to transfer some of that weight to the motorhome's front axle.

Looking for opinions.

Has anyone had experience with SMI's Stay-In-Play braking system for gas motorhomes? It looks good and has been recommended to me at my RV shop but would like outside opinions. Thanks.

RE: Fantastic Fan Issue

GaryGus is on the right track. I've had the same problem from time to time and in each case the pin switch that cuts power to the fan as the lid closes is dirty and perhaps stuck in place. Open the lid and give the switch a good cleaning and lubrication. That should fix the problem without needing to replace the entire unit.

I just bought a used CRV to tow and need recommendations for a good shop in the Sacramento/Rocklin area to install the tow bar, wiring, and brake unit. Thanks!

RE: Why Good Sam?

As a life member of Good Sam and involved with the organization since my Dad joined in the late '60s - I'd like to offer a quick history lesson that most members today don't know about. While Good Sam membership today offers various financial deals and participation in events for those who are interested, the original purpose of the club was quite different. Good Sam is short for Good Samaritan. The original club logo came on two large red circular decals that were to be put on the front and back of the trailer or motorhome as high as possible toward the street side. In a day before cell phones and less roadside service the idea was to offer assistance to a fellow club member if you saw them broken down at the side of the road. If it was not safe to stop and offer assistance you were to honk your horn and contact someone who could lend assistance in the next town. It really was intended to create a support group for RVers at a time when help was not as easy to get as today. Unfortunately, most Good Sam members today are totally unaware of this tradition, especially as it is no longer promoted as part of the club. Times have changed.
Safe travels to all!

RE: Bounder height

Your situation sounds like mine with my 2009 Bounder. It also leans to the passenger side. It drives fine and tracks fine, it just leans a bit. I've noticed that many of the most heavy components are on the passenger side of the frame, propane tank, electrical components, main storage compartments, fridge, kitchen cabinets, etc. I think the main issue is that there is just more weight on that side of the coach. I try to find roads that slope to the left and it looks fine. Safe travels!
