RE: Class A spare tires

I carry a 22.5 spare, unmounted, in a vynl carrying case on my towed vehicle. No tools. I use coach net to actually change the tire. I watched a few 18 wheelers carry a spare and use a road service that fixes the problem on the road. We go to places like Alaska and Mexico where they might have my size tire......... or not. Figure if most cars on the highway have a spare and the truckers carry one on their rigs, maybe they know something the Class A makers should have known. I keep good tires on my rig, but worry more about road damage, sidewalls etc. Try calling tire dealers in the areas that you travel, see If they have your size in stock , if they do, great, if not well......... It;s like everything else, When ya need it and haven't got it..........

Travel in a 40 ft dp, pulling a chevy. We stay in National Parks. Thousand Trails, Military bases, Indian Casinos. Haven't wanted to use State parks.

RE: Lukeville Crossing

While we seem to be moving on..........At the Lukeville crossing. Has anyone, heading South across the border, been stopped and boarded prior to crossing, by our Homeland Security people, checking for any large quantities of guns and ammo and money going south? Just wondering, haven't personally seen it yet. Read on a website that it was happening. http://www.puertopenascoliving.com/BorderCrossing.html http://www.dhs.gov/ynews/speeches/sp_1250028863008.shtm

RE: A question about motorhome For Sale on ebay.

Might be a couple of reasons the price is currently so low, One it could be a great deal that is being offered, but I agree , bidding will increase in the final hours. Another reason is the rv is almost 12 years old. No slides. Entry level HR. with 26000 miles. It sat somewhere and got driven an average of about 2200 miles a year. Not so good for an rv. 164 hours on the generator. hmmm. Wonder how old the tires are. Bet this was owned by a "mom and Pop" team that drove it on weekends to the county park 20 miles away to go fishin. And finally, that floral design on the coach and love seat. Daaang.

RE: When to replace tires...

Only you and an inspection by a tire dealer can tell. If your looking for a bit of piece of mind, just replace the 2 front tires now/soon, that way you'll know you have good rubber on the front. Keep the "old" front tires as spares (or not) . Splitting up the cost of tires also helps cut down on the pain in the wallet. When ready you can buy the other four tires as they age.

Lukeville Crossing

This is for anyone who just happened to stumble onto this portion of this Rv Net and was thinking about a first time visit to Mexico crossing at Lukeville and was getting a little concerned about what might happen. You old timers probably are familiar with this stuff. As in all travels, bad things can happen anywhere, but, We've crossed at Lukeville for the last 5 years in a row in January. We drive a 40 ft dp pulling our chevy. We have gone thru the Mexican border and gotten a "red light once" and then got waived through after a momentary stop. My brother in law got his 4 wheelers checked out. I know you've "heard" what's happened to others, but this is from my personal experience only. We don't stop in Sonoyta, Mexican border town and we drive in the day time at the posted speed limit. We have never had a problem with local police or otherwise. Doesn't mean we can't, just means we haven't. We head to Puerto Penasco where we stay for a month. Last year I got passed on the Mexican highway by a 5th wheel and a 40 footer, both of which blew by us at about 70mph, one on a curve. Maybe those idiots had probs later with police. Maybe not. (I think they would have probs with U.S. Police) I have not paid any money to any police nor will I. I also do not consciously go looking for problems. I am a guest in their country and I try and abide by all the rules of the road. For you first timers, Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) is a good first time spot (the old salts say it isn't Mexico, but its ok for us.) Crossing at Lukeville is fairly easy with a little advance planning. If you feel really uncomfortable, maybe you shouldn't go. If you feel just a little uncomfortable, find someone who's been before and follow them. You can usually find someone in an RV right there at the Lukeville border. Big parking area for your rig on the U.S. side where people buy insurance. Haven't met too many unfriendly rv people, so just go up to one and introduce yourself and ask if you can follow them in. Hope this helped. The reason I posted this is a partly selfish one. We love going to Rocky Point. For us its just right. Rocky Point is a tourist town. More tourists, the town stays alive and my rv park doesn't close. (The Reef) As of last March, the town seemed to be hurtin a bit so if you're a Mexico firstimer, come on down. If you don't like Mexico, then this probably wasn't for you.

RE: Peanut Butter Not Working

Got him. Thanks to you all. I used a little bit from alot of advice. Got new traps and used the gloves. Used Sardines in oil as bait. Got a big rubber trash can. Put it next to a table he could climb on. Put the big trap and some big sticky traps in the bottom of the trash can with the sardines. He dove into the trash can and snagged himself and couldn't get out. Gonna get some of those devices to keep any further ones out.

RE: Peanut Butter Not Working

Rat's. I don't think its a rat. I was able to snap a picture of it. It looks like it's from the rodent family.Geez, I just realized. 5 years on the rv net and I never learned how to post a picture. Rats. I'll try and figure it out and see if anybody can ID the critter. In the mean time. (insert Darth Vadar music here) I'm setting traps. I won't have him eating my rv wires to make a nest. Got some new stuff to try and some sardines, cat food and peanut butter (evil laughter here, think Vincent Price. )

RE: Peanut Butter Not Working

UPDATE Still haven't caught him yet. I took him to St George Utah this last week end and he didn't want to stay. Brought him back home with me. One of you asked if I was sure it was a mouse and the answer was no. Well today I confirmed it. Its a pretty good sized RAT. I saw him this morning while I was having coffee. He's about 6 or 7 inches long and was able to job from the ground up into the engine compartment. (About 2 feet high) I've been using the wrong size traps. He's too big for the small mouse traps I've been using. I gotta get the big size that Home depot has. Gonna try the pellets if that doesn't work. I gave him every chance to go somewhere else so now its, On. Open warfare. Mano y Rato. No quarter. Take no prisoners. Got my 3 year old Rottweiler on the job. The rat is driving her crazy. By the way, my Rottweiler was how I knew I had a critter. She can smell him, just can't catch him. Yet.

RE: Class A Dashboard A/C Problem

Doug, KNeal, Gary. Hey thanks. It sounds like thats my problem. Pump is running> I see small black hoses to the black ball. when I pinch the hose between the ball and the pump, the pump stops running. What I do see might mean hose fell off. I got a white connector looking plastic piece sticking out of the pump. Unless I'm wrong, a hose may have fallen off this. When I put my finger over the end of that white piece it changes the tone of the pump. I will check all of of this. Thanks again guys. I'll get back and report what I found.

Class A Dashboard A/C Problem

Did a search. Didn't find one like this. I have a 2003 Monaco Dipl, 330 Cummins, 40 DST model. This problem just started. The dash ac works great. Problem is the cold air is coming out of the vents normally used by the front windshield defrosters. No air coming out of the forward vents. Same with the heater. What I do hear is a small "small motor" sound coming from front compartment area or behind the dash. I normally hear the sound for a short time, then it stops. It's not stopping now and runs continually. I traced the" small motor" noise to the front compartment. Just above the gens set is a small black plastic device with a couple of black air tubes running to/from it. Thats what's making the "small motor noise" Pulled a wire and it shut off. No front vent air still though just air thru the windshield defroster vents. I don't know if these dash a/c's have "doors" that regulate the air flow like newer autos do but maybe. Any ideas on how I can fix this or is this a certified a/c repairman special?

RE: Peanut Butter Not Working

Hey these are all great. The shotgun was an idea. The raisin I will try tomorrow. and the one about the peanut butter and the mesh to hold it down I'm going to try also. Bacon too. these are great. Nope, I'm not sure its a rat. Looked for a nest. Looked for droppings. Looked for a sighting. Nothing yet. I forgot to add that he did take the peanut butter from one of the old guillotine traps so I like the idea about using the mesh to hold it in place. Bacon, raisin. Gonna try them all. Thanks. I'll report back.

Peanut Butter Not Working

Ok, We've got another mouse. We've had him for two weeks now. He's a tough one. We've tried the sticky paper with peanut butter. We've tried the guillotine, old style with peanut butter. We've tried the "Check in but no check out" humane traps with peaunut better (and jelly) . Set them inside, out side. No luck. Pretty sure it;s only one, so far) and I want to get him before he starts chewing up wires. Prevention is great but I'm up to the whack him and discard him mode. Don't really want to try the pellets yet cause I figure he'll run off and die inside the rv and stink up the place. Last one we caught with the sticky paper but this guys smarter. Lookin for some sure fire home remedy that some of you may have found successful. Thanks. Oh yeah, cause somebody will ask.....Its an 03 Monaco Dipl, 330 cummins, allison trans, exhaust brake, 3 slides and this time its a Idaho mouse. Whata they breedum tougher up there or what?

RE: Travel in Baja

Good first trip to Mexico. Puerto Penasco. Also called Rocky Point. Cross at a small border crossing at Lukeville Arizona. Puerto Penasco/Rocky Point is on the mainland side of the Sea of Cortez. Good place to get started in January/February. Two parks, there are more, to stay in what be the Playa Bonita and The Reef. Plenty of birding and photo ops. We stay at the Reef. Dry camp on the beach or in the park. People like both parks, we like the Reef cause its larger. Plenty of info on the net. Rocky Point is safe as you'll find anywhere. They had a few problems awhile back. Nice little fishing town. Good food. Good people. We enjoy parking on the beach and watching the day go by. If you go, its a good place to start seeing Mexico and then decide if you want to go further south.
