RE: Waving at other RVs

When I’m rolling down an interstate at 65-70 mph in a big MH with a toad, the last thing on earth I’m going to be doing is trying to stare into the dark windshield of every oncoming MH or other RV that is 50 yards or more away across the medial on the interstate and moving at a good clip just to see if somebody is waving at me.
Birddogman, you said it for me. Perhaps if we pulled up side-by-side a glance and friendly wave might be nice.

Thanksgiving and gratitude ...

Although every holiday I still miss my late DH, I still am thankful for many good things in my life. In addition to the usual gratitude for my current good health and for my loving family, I am also greatly aware of how well my sweet DH continues to care for me, even though he is gone.
My DH's untimely death allowed me to retire and buy my "starter" and then current RV. My RV has given me (and my two yappy dogs) the freedom to set out on my own and create a life woven from my own dreams of travel and adventure. My time in the RV has been healing.
I am grateful as well for helpful people I have found here on RV.net. For instance, DianneOK turned me on to my first volunteer gig in Louisiana. When I have problems with my rig, several of you always step forward and tell me how you have solved similar problems.
In turn, as I gained experience RVing I have been able to help others here.
Having said all that ... I would like to hear from you about what you are grateful for.
Oh, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!

RE: Picking out Full Timers

I am only a half-timer, and occasionally camp-host at a state park for the summer. I make it my business to introduce myself to everyone in "my" loop, and the FT'ers are easy to spot. They are relaxed, courteous campers and ready with a smile and conversation. The question, "where are you from / headed?" lets me know immediately if I'm talking to a pro or an amateur. LOL.

RE: Tow Bar & The Toad

I use a Blue Ox tow bar and it came with locking pins. I manually lock the doors on my 01 Honda CRV -- just to protect the stuff I haul inside.

Just had my windshield replaced and the insurance co. had to ship the glass from its contractor's warehouse.

RE: Considering the RV Full Time Lifestyle

First, my sincere condolences on the loss of your son. I can relate to your question. My husband was killed five years ago, and within 18 months I bought my first RV & headed out of town (some would call it running away) solo. I spend about six months of the year on the road with my yappy dogs.
My most peaceful times are in the RV, because it is entirely mine -- DH has never been in it and actually never wanted to RV. His absence is not palpable there. I loved him and I still grieve and miss him terribly -- no matter where I am. But being in a new living space, traveling to places I've never been and meeting new people helps me build a new life. A new me.
DH was just preparing to retire and was happy and excited about the future. So his death taught me that life can be long or short. But it's for the living. Today.
So that's my story, for what it's worth. I decided to have a Neopolitan life. As with the ice cream, my grief is packed side-by-side with the fun, discovery and adventure. Each in its own time, and sometimes all in the same spoonful. God bless.

RE: Need input on leaving stick house for several months

...
5. Turn off water at main valve (or turn off well pump)....
C&G, I ABSOLUTELY agree with this point. Once I returned from a trip and three days later a torrent of water started spewing from the TOP of my water heater the old turney-valve was frozen. DH probably showed me the interior main shut-off eight years before he died, and I somehow could not access that information in the midst of the drama. i had to go bang on neighborhood doors until I found a big strong man to help.
If I had not been home, no one would have noticed until
water was streaming out of the basement windows. :)
Now the water is ALWAYS shut off when I leave.

Oil changes

I've been told to change oil in my MH every 3,000 miles. But with all of those highway miles being racked up over, say, a 10-day period, I wonder whether $uch frequency is nece$$ary.
Whadddya all think?

RE: Access to RV thru locked windows if locked out

Goldie, that is a scary story.
I had thought about hiding a bay door key in the LP or battery bay, then a door key in another, locked compartment.
Overkill?

RE: Oh, RATS!

... Seems to me that there are a lot of voluteer jobs out there at the parks right now, with the economy being the way it is. You might want to get a different one.
It's not so much the place as the gig. I'd be doing environmental education from the cockpit of a kayak and whilst snorkeling. It beats cleaning campsites and advising campers to "keep it down" and "your dog has to be leashed."

RE: Oh, RATS!

Since you'll be living in your RV, the little critters, should they get in, will most likely stick to the cabinets, and out of site, so traps of any kind can be placed in those areas.
Oh, I'm still fighting that battle from my last volunteer gig .... :M

The refuge won't let me use poison ... that's part of the problem. I also have two little dogs, and if any of that poison got on the ground ... well, that's too hard to think about.
