RE: Buyer BEWARE

It probably hit a nerve because licensing to drive is the responsibility of the DRIVER not the salesperson. You seem upset that a salesperson at a dealership failed to mention you would need a special license to drive the motorhome. It's not their responsibility. I can buy an airplane but I still know I need a pilot's license to fly it!..When you got your drivers license, in that little book they give you, it specifies license classifications. It's your responsibility to know those specifics. Did you think your regular drivers license would allow you to drive a motorcycle?..a bus?..of course not. Motorhomes are no different. It is my belief that anyone that owns a diesel coach should have to be proficient in the operation of air brakes and the air system, yet few states have that requirement. It's our responsibility as drivers, to know the law. Being a buyer has nothing to do with it....DennisDennis ... we asked the salesman out right if we needed a special license....and he said absolutely not !! That's why we are upset. Why couldn't he just say the truth, and like crazies we took his word for it. But that's okay..hubby will upgrade and all will be well. I guess we just expected a truthful answer about something like this since it involves safety.....Live and learn....

RE: Buyer BEWARE

We still don't know how they found out the hard way. Just driving down the road, no one knows what license rating you have. Seems to be more than we're being told. Romer--found out the hard way because like 2 crazies we trusted the dealer...then we come to find out the dealer was wrong.....and now the hubby has to go to the DMV.. get the study book...take the written AND road test. They dealer made it sound so easy. I guess the tests won't be so bad...it's just the idea that we did not have that in mind when we bought the unit...any way he'll upgrade the license...and we'll be happy campers....oh yea, I see that you are from Bolingbrook...hope you have the right license;)

RE: Buyer BEWARE

Not to mention trying to circumvent the forum rules against double/triple posting....DennisDennis , I did not realize that someone could not post about the same issue...I have my own account....I was just trying to forewarn people...did not mean to cause such a ruckus...don't know why this has hit a nerve with some people.

RE: WHY WAS I NOT TOLD AT THE DEALER??

Still haven't heard how OP found out the hard way. How would any officer know he didn't have the proper license? Heard other people from Illinois talking about the discrepancy...so called the police to see what the truth is...after all the police will be the ones you are in trouble with if you don't have the proper license....police confirmed that a special license is needed depending on weight of unit and toad.....if you reside in Il and you don't have a Class A, B, or C non commercial license...you are breaking the law !

RE: Buyer BEWARE

The OP appears to be the wife of the other poster, check out their forum profiles. Both have the same last name. I guess they're hoping if they both complain then there will be a different outcome? Fact remains, it's up to the driver to know what the requirements are. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Mr Hooligan...It is no secret that I am the wife of the other poster!! I am not complaining. I just want to forwarn some other person who might not be familiar with these different types of licenses...and to let the buyer beware....we love our motorhome and my hubby is going to get the upgraded license as required. I just want other people to know out there that somethimes it is not all what it seems...and there are many people on this forum who are driving and have no business driving because they might not have the proper license......ignorance is NOT bliss for me....I like to be in the know and I want all my fellow forum buddies to be in the know also...Thank you

Buyer BEWARE

Just want to warn anyone out there that is thinking about or is about to purchase a Class A motorhome. Do NOT believe when the salesperson tells you that you don't need any special license to drive one of these bigs boys. All states are different and many require that you obtain a special non-commercial license structured around the federal classifications for weight. These are NOT CDL's, they are special license classifications that are required and are determined by the units weight AND what you will be towing. If you get stopped by the law for any reason or are in an accident and not carrying a proper license....you are breaking the law and your insurance company can drop you...not to mention getting a fine and ticket. My hubby and I learned the HARD way....Happy, safe and SMART travels to all

RE: Mammoth Cave KY. Campground Suggestions?

We really loved Singing Hills in Cave City....quiet and the owners are really nice. They also have a stocked pond for catch and release fishing..and boy those fish were really biting. Plus it is a Good Sam Member Park, so you can get a little discount if you are a Good Sam Member.....Good Luck

RE: Purina Beneful article

If you can afford it....try buying the specialized brands of dog food. Anything with corn in it is usually junk...and it's hard for the dog to digest anyway. I buy Fromm. They are a small family business from Wisconsin, and our dogs thrive on their food.

RE: Thousand Trails Membership

I am Not familiar with this particular club. But I feel that you should really read the small print. Many of these clubs exclude things like the days and hours that you can camp to get the discounts...many times the discounts are for days during the week that you might not be interested. They can be somewhat restrictive. If you camp alot it probably would be worth it. If you don't camp all that much...save your money because the savings usually amount to a few bucks...not really worth it of you don't camp camp much.

Am I crazy?

Am I in the minority here? We have a lovely park trailer that we use almost every weekend in the summer. It has all the luxuries and bells and whistles...but I enjoy just pitching a tent and roughing it a little.. every now and then. There is something about sleeping in a tent that is so relaxing and refreshing. I feel like I am truly experiencing the outdoors. My husband thinks I'm nuts. Anyone else out there that likes tents too and Rv's?

Extended warranty service plan

In the process of purchasing a 2005 National Seabreeze Class A Motorhome. The dealer of course wants to sell us the Extended Warranty Plan. And that is fine. Just want to know if anyone has a plan called "Assured"??? or should we get a Plan through Good Sam? Thanks for any feedback :)
