RE: Batteries

research 2 six volt batteries if you haven't gone out and bought batteries yet.

RE: Slides and wind

I have brought the slide in due to extreme wind, mostly due to the slide toppers and the fear of them getting destroyed.

RE: ford, f350, Tire PSI.. (Not towing)

When you run the tires at 80 psi unloaded, you will see a darker line on the inside and outside of the tread (if you don't then leave it at 80). Reduce the presure at 5 psi, drive it and adjust down as required. I run my 10 ply stock tires unloaded at 55 psi in the front and 45 psi in the rear. They have 85000km on them and still look great. You will need to find what works best for your truck and driving style. I tend to do shorter drives in the off season with my truck.

RE: Do I need a F350 or a 250?

"dry weight" is useless unless you plan on camping with no food, water, propane, clothes... You go by gross vehicle weight rating and pin weight. Off the top of my head, I would say a 350 SRW is better than a 250, depending on the trailer, a duel wheel truck might be a safer bet.

RE: Tire changing ramp

I can tell you, if I'm stuck on a busy road with a flat, I'm not messing around with a jack. I loosen the lugs, pull it up on blocks that I'm allready carrying, swap tires, pull it off blocks, torque the wheels and done. It is less than 10 minutes. Maybe it does strain the one good tire but I sure ain't getting run over by a driver who is talking/texting on their phone.

RE: Shelby Raptor

His name should be managed with respect and not just splashed on any vehicle. Ford has the SVT badging for trucks, the Shelby name should be reserved for special mustangs.

maybe in an old 12 valve tractor diesel, never in a modern diesel engine.

RE: extended warranty

Shop around, I went with an extended warrenty that offered 1/2 back if I didn't use it in the 7 years. It was $1600. The fridge last year was $1900, I can say I actually won that time. Most times, they are the ones that win.

RE: V 10 gas issues

I'd go with the easy fix of a fuel filter first but I'll bet its the fuel pump.

RE: Getting out of purchase due to over weight for truck

You might be able to get out of the deal if you buy a different RV at the dealership. This could be an expensive lesson. I hope it works out for you.

RE: Pulled 5er over Teton Pass - OMG

How would a big gasser like my V10 have done on the downhill side?
I went up the Jackson side with previous truck, a Ram V10 (8 liter) with 4.10 gears and my current trailer. Going up was really slow. 1st gear crawling. Gave the truck a good break at the top. Going down the other side was fine. I would not do that again if I had my previous truck.

A turbo for that V6 could be an interesting option.

RE: I don't think the police let it go

I'm not saying that what the guy in the photo did was a good idea, but aside from the scale and brake issue, how is it significantly different than this?
http://www.speedytowing.com/services/heavytow1.jpg
In many ways, I'd say they're similar. The first connection isn't a 5th wheel, the second connection is, both 'trailers' in both cases are tandem axles... The similarities are surprising if you think about it. One is perfectly acceptable and seen every day, while the other is unfit for travel on the roads? Interesting...
I would hope the tow truck driver is more qualified and trained beyond the average driver. 2nd: the tow truck is built for the task. 3rd: the big rig isn't on a car carrier, 4th: this is done over a short distance so it is safe to disconect the trailer from the truck, at least in my area. 5th: the tow truck is designed to hold that much weight.

RE: I don't think the police let it go

I totally agree: everyone has done something stupid/crazy and realized it during or after. Very few of us have pictures floating around the internet to proove it.
I'm sure the guy pictured did not realize the potential danger involved in what he was doing.

Know where this pic was taken? Looks like the RCMP.
it was taken in Alberta. They permit double towing there although I suspect this isn't the permitted configuration

RE: $7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions?

Ford V10 Crew cab or Excursion would be something to consider. Forget about an older Dodge as the back seats have very little room. You probably won't find a Dodge Megacab in your price range.

RE: H&S Taking a Ford 6.7 to the Breaking Point

It is the guys (& gals) doing the truck pulls that are really doing all the research and testing as to what a diesel and drive train will take before it blows up. I love watching it on the Speed Channel. Don't seem to see too many Fords, mostly Duramax/GM and Cummins/Ram. I'm sure you need deep pockets to get trucks to pull that much weight.

RE: 2003 Triple E Topaz w/ 05 Dodge Dually - lift needed?

I did not need to lift the trailer for my 06 topaz to match my 08 ram. If your lucky there will be enough adjustment between the hitch and pin box.
