RE: What are the better brands

Ernie, take a look at Rvonline.com. They have a wide range of nice DPs in your price range.
Here's one example. 2007 Country Coach

RE: Setup for Dish vs Directv

I'm having some of the same questions. I've been with Directv since 2009 and I have Distant Networks which I really don't want to lose.
I have 2 HD receivers that bounce between the S&B and the MH and now my wife wants DVR. When I called Directv they would give it to us at a charge plus a new 2 year contract on everything (not just the DVR).
Dish is offering the same coverage including Distance Networks and 2 DVRs for a big discount over Directv.
Directv $138.20
Dish $82.00
It looks like we're headed for Dish.

RE: how old is your toad?

You would be surprised at how much your CR-V is worth. Our '07 with a small dent in the front finder (ladder fell on it) with 68,000 miles was worth almost $14K.
Not really. At 68K you have a little over half the mileage ours has and it can be financed. Once the car gets above 100K it's much more difficult to get financing on it (or so I've been told).

RE: how old is your toad?

We purchased our 07 CR-V new when they were first available in San Jose CA. We've driven it 118K and towed it for another 55K. My wife wanted to trade it for a 2013 CR-V but at 118K the trade isn't worth much so we plan on putting another 100K+ on it before we get a new one.
I don't know how the Suzuki's hold up but we're real happy with the CR-V. With your Suzuki at 70K it's either time to trade or do what we're doing.

RE: Ironing Board for Motorhome

When we started to full time my wife insisted that we have an ironing board so I got her one like THIS. She's used it once and it's been in the MH since 09. For some reason we NEVER bring the iron along. :h

RE: What is your nick name (slogan) on your Rv

My wife and I collect pig themed stuff. Years ago our daughter gave us a license plate that had a caricature of a pig on it and was titled "Pig Pen". Consequently I guess our rig is the Pig Pen.

This is the only one I could find that would be any where near Haverhill and it may be too far. It's in Danville NH.

RE: Need to practice - traffic cones/alternatives?

Another option is to cut yellow tennis balls in half and use them in place of the cones (it's a lot cheaper).

RE: Rock guards--Class A/Gas--what do you use?

We had the brush type on our 93 Winny Adventurer and have the factory solid rubber all the way accross on our current rig. Solid works better than the brush type. We're planning a trip to Alaska at which time we'll probably install the "Protect-a -tow". It just looks like it will do a much better job than the one we currently have

RE: Booth Vs. Table

We've had booths in both of our coaches. The booth in our current coach was killing my back in fact I am unable to sit in a booth in a restaurant so we switched to a factory roll top table and chairs and couldn't be happier. We actually gained storage when we changed over because the table came with a cradenze that has three drawers and three shelves. We store more in the cradenza than we were able to store in the two drawers of the booth.
We bungee the chairs to the legs of the table and we have zero noise or movement of the chairs. We purchased two collapsible chairs at Costco that we store in a compartment for use when necessary.
Have your folks try both if they can find them. If they're in AZ they can try our rolltop table out.

RE: Dust pollution in Mesa AZ.

We're in Queen Creek at the edge of the Sonora desert. When you get the dust storms they've already passed over us. We have not created a positive air pressure but that's a great idea. We have two large dogs that are dust mops and we vacuum them before they come into the house in an effort to keep the dust down.
Having stated what our conditions are we are able to keep the dust down in the house by changing the air filters in the sir handlers on a regular basis. We don't have to dust every day but we have taken steps to ensure that we have stopped or mitigated areas where dust can get into the house. I travel extensively throughout North America so I encounter all types of pollen every week of the year and I cannot find a difference here in AZ or when I'm in So Cal or New England. The main thing is to stop the dust infiltration into the house by closing off unused rooms and shutting off the air vents/ducts to unused rooms and fixing door and window seals that are loose or leaking. We also vacuum weekly which keeps the dust down.
We've lived on the West Coast and the East Coast and decided to settle here because it offers the best environment for us. Everyone has a different need, if AZ is too harsh maybe it's time to find the place that suits you the best. JMHO

RE: Oil Change Interval Workhorse 8.1L

We have an 04 8.1L engine. The chassis guide that came with the coach states something similar.
"If any one of these is true for you, use the short trip/city maintenance schedule:
* Most trips are less than 5 to 10 miles
* Most trips include extensive idling (stop and go traffic)
* Most trips are through dusty areas
* The vehicle is used for deliver, police or other commercia; applications."
Paraphrasing - If any if these are truse use the short interval, change every oil and filter 3,000 miles
If none of these are true use the long trip/Highway schedule and change the oil and filter every 7,000 miles
We have followed the long trip schedule since we bought it in 05. It now has 58,000 miles.
The 09 Chassis Guide suggest a shorter interval if the bulleted conditions are met

RE: Seasonal Direct TV

We have Directv with Distant Networks and did have to sign the appropriate waivers for DNS. Our residence is Box Elder SD and both vehicles are registered there. We have a winter home in Queen Creek AZ.
We receive the local Phoenix channels at the winter place, San Diego and Los Angeles for the West Coast feed and NY for the East Coast feed.
When we travel we take both receivers with us and we use an HD dish on a tripod for full viewing. For local viewing when we're on the road we use the batwing. The only issues we've ever had is for the NFL Sunday Ticket. We were near the Boundary Waters in MN and the Patriots game was blacked out on both feeds and there were no local channels available. Other than the Sunday Ticket we don't have any issues with Directv and we've used it all accross the nation. One thing we no try to do is to have them change the spot beam. That opens up all kinds of aggravation.

RE: Weber fire starter cubes

Buy Duraflame log, cut it into one inch rounds, cut those in half and you've got at least 24 fire starters.
