RE: Black Hills, Mt Rushmore
If you do KOA, there is one very close to Rushmore that is very kid-friendly. Lots of activities on property. Very near Rushmore, central to Custer State Park (do NOT overlook this), Deadwood, Wind and Jewel Caves. If you prefer more natural site, there are 3 (if I remember correctly) campgrounds within Custer.
RE: Ohio--> Fort Wilderness: Too ambitious a plan for a noob?
I traded my 1994, 19' Terry for a 32' Rockwood the last of May 2012. Took delivery on Saturday, and left from north of Kansas City to head to Fort Wilderness on Sunday with 2 adult children and 9 year old grandson. Wonderful trip without incident (except for The Eye of the Needle Road in Arkansas, a story unto itself). Went back down to WDW with the trailer in December, and just got back from being down there with two bus loads of High Schoolers. I can picture your DD now in the Princess Parade. Perfect age. have a marvelous trip!
RE: Is There a Doctor in the House is Tucson?
X2 on Urgent Care. Just stepped out of one in St Joseph MO. Nasty earache. Declared sinus infection. Antibiotics and steroids called in to Walgeens. Long wait, but glad theyy were open on Sunday. Very friendly and professional staff. Hope everything works out for you.
It's Official! I'm Retiring!!
Just got back from 4 day weekend in Branson, MO. Last day of work is on the 21st. Leaving right after Thanksgiving to hang out with my kid who works at Disney World in Orlando. Need to be in Oklahoma City on Dec 15. That leaves from the 4th of December til the 15th to play, mostly on the Gulf Coast.
Have never explored Southern Florida. Would this be a reasonable time frame to explore that area before heading back north? Any suggested highlights?
RE: Baxter Springs Kansas to Dalhart Texas
I've done the US 54 portion into Dalhart several times. Lots of truck traffic creates some serious ruts, although the State was re-capping pavement late summer, so it may have improved. Don't think diesel will be a problem on that stretch anyway. Safe Travels!
RE: Proper set up of Stabilizer Jacks
I got my 2010 Rockwood the 1st of June. With the completely enclosed underbelly I cant see the frame rails except for the last two inches where it attached to rear bumper. Where exactly would I put a bottle or pyramid jack to augment the stabsizers?
RE: Whiteriver AZ
depends on how you are coming. dont take 191 from 40, just went over it, rough 2 lane. If coming from Holbrook you will be fine. turn left in Showlow, right in Hondah and you will be there after about 30 miles. couple good down hills just outside Hondah, mainly 2 lane but wide. Used to be lotsa log trucks on it but not so much any more.
What is going on in whiteriver? Only think I can think of is the tribal rodeo should be comming up!
Church from Kansas City area is there on mission trip. Driverr blew a/c condensor on coach Saturday afternoon. I'm deadheading inwith replacement coach. Kinds sorts vacation trip for me. Beats shuffling papers at a desk.
RE: Camping even after arriving home
Yup. Same here. Traded my sig-rig 19'Terry for 2010 Rockwood 8315BSS. Took delivery 6/2. Left next morning for two week trip to Orlando, Savannah, Tybee Island, South and North Carolina and GSMNP. Haven't moved back into house yet. Laundry and two showers. All else goes on in Rockwood. Cooler, more comfortable bed.
Yup,I think I chose the perfect full-timing rig. Now to get rid of that pesky job thing...
RE: I Found It!! (or it found me...)
Wow! Thank you for the marvelously positive review. I've always been prone to serious "buyers remorse", but this makes me feel better already
RE: I Found It!! (or it found me...)
Um, shouldn't you hang and camp/drive locally for a week or so in order to test all the changes and general condition of the new rig?
Nevermind, that's just me, compulsive sometimes.
Enjoy!
That would be my preference, but my Disney Cast Member kid is flying up tonite. He and little brother are going to work on rehabbing the sun porch on my "Little Cabin In The Woods" in Faucett on Thursday/Friday. Royals game with whole family Friday nite, he has a wedding on Saturday (friend--not his). Plan is to go to church on Sunday, he, 8 year old grandson and I take off from church on Sunday and head south so he can get back to creating Magic! He hooked us up with reservations at Fort Wilderness, and a fun packed 3 day schedule in the Wonderful World of Disney. Timeline not negotiable. This whole deal seems like Providence, so I trust that this will have a happy ending.
RE: I Found It!! (or it found me...)
Sounds great....what is a "solarium slide?" We like our rear living a lot!
I stand corrected The term "atrium slide" is out of the catalog. The dining set (table and 4 chairs) and couch are in the slide. With the slide out There are 3 (4?) floor to ceiling windows, and another window running across the top of the couch.
I've been sold on the rear living plan since I first saw it at the RV show a few years ago, but this setup creates a wonderful "great room" kind of space, with the kitchen, dining and living area all together. The larger rear bedroom, divided from the rest of the trailer by the center bath seems to provide the balance of space and privacy for those trips that involve family.
RE: I Found It!! (or it found me...)
Yup. Signed the papers. They gave me more for the Terry than I paid for it two years ago(with 2 week old water pump and brand new gas regulator on the water heater). They agreed (in writing!) to 1)install two MaxAir vent covers, 2)replace all overhead incandescent light bulbs with LED's, 3)pull the second 12v battery off the Terry and install it on Rockwood, and 4)move my hitch over and get is set up properly. I hope this all works out--the plan was to get Terry ready to leave out Sunday (6/3) to go to Orlando, Savannah, Charleston, points tbd in North Carolina, Gatliburg and GSMNP before heading back to Kansas City. This will now be accomplished with the Rockwood. Set to pick it up Saturday morning.
I Found It!! (or it found me...)
So I take my 94 Terry in for water heater repair this morning. Prepared to drop it off, and pick it up in a couple of days. They said, "We'll get her done here real quick for ya." It was a trap.
I looked around the sales lot, positive I wanted a new Rear-Living flooplan for eventual full-riming. Told the salesman what I was looking to buy eventually.
He suggested I look at used, like the Rockwood down the hill. 2010 Signature Ultra-Lite 8315BSS. Waddled down there, kicked the tires, stepped inside, and fell in love. Front kitchen, atrium slide with couch and dinette set, mid-bath, and small slide for the queen bed. Excellent entertainment center, electric jacks and awning, four-season package with water tank heaters. Oh, yeah... :B
RE: I have wondered this for years
Just depends on how far hot or cold faucets are turned on, and which one will prevail when the shower head valve is re-opened. I learned early on to turn shower head to the side until things stabilize. (I would step aside, but there's really no space in my shower to do that two-step thing).
RE: Using battery charger with shore power/ converter on
Won't fix your immediate problem, but I got a great little monitor for 12v. Plugs in cigarette lighter socket--shows green, yellow or red LED, and a screen shows exact voltage eg 13.65. Ordered it from Amazon, since found same thing in automotive section of Wally World ~$12.00.
RE: Options for internet when outside of town
I have carried a Sierra Wireless "MiFi" hotspot from Sprint for a couple of years now. As long as there is a Sprint signal, I have wifi for up to 5 laptops, phones, Kindle Fire--whatever. Works well going down the road in a Charter Motorcoach. Last fall got a second one from AT&T. Less than $100.00 month for both, and get wifi service wherever I go, and can share only with those I choose. Use the Sprint as only internet source at home as well. No landline, no cable...
