RE: Best time to buy

Just know that they will come way down on the price and get multiple quotes from multiple dealers. You will be surprised how many thousands they will come off the sticker.

RE: 1st Time Buying Advice

Do not pay anything near sticker price for a travel trailer. The MSRP price is greatly inflated.

Rockwood 2501SS Cutting Hole In Super Slide

Has anyone here ever cut a hole in their super slide. I want to buy a door/hatch unit cut a hole in the side of the super slide under one of the dining bench seats, so I can access items stored under the bench seat from the outside. Does anyone have any idea of the the structural make-up of the super slide exterior wall.....i.e. wall studs, wood, metal?

RE: Battery Burned Up

FYI! after the battery was removed I plugged the trailer back in and the air conditioning ran fine including the temp control ie. t-stat. So, I believe the inverter part still works. I don't understand all the inner workings of it, but I just hope this means the charger part still works. Thanks everyone.

RE: Travel Trailer with two axles

Matrix I see your point and yes I could see this being very towable, but what about backing, I am not sure it would be very good.

RE: Travel Trailer with two axles

I grew up on a cotton farm in Texas and what yall are calling a wagon is what we called a cotton trailer. There were two kinds, one with tie rods that went from the trail tongue out to each front wheel and one that had pivot point in the center of the front axle. The one with the tie rods out to each front wheel was more stable in corners and a total pain to back up. The one with the pivot point in the middle of the axel was not very stable in the corners at all and backing was a little easier, but still a pain.
BOTH whip back and forth like craze at highway speeds above 50 mph, especially the one with the tie rods.
FYI! Cotton trailers are now a thing of the past they now press the cotton into modules or the brand new John Deere cotton stripper make it into a round bale like a round hay baler does.

RE: Battery Burned Up

Thanks guy's. Yea, you get so many things going on in life and get so busy, you just forget somethings like maintain the water level in you battery. I use to keep it maintained on a regular basis and since the kids are old enough to go to school and summer vacations every where, we don't make it out to the farm near as much as we use to. Better to have it happen now rather that during deer season, when we use it the most. Thanks guys

Battery Burned Up

Help!
We keep our travel trailer at my brother in-laws farm in a utility shed. He called several months ago and said the breaker that goes to his electric fence and our travel trailer keeps tripping. (We had the travel trailer plugged in for charging for several months). I told him to unplug the travel trailer and see what happens. He did and the breaker stopped tripping. That was about 2 or 3 months ago.
So, fast forward to this past week we go out to the farm to stay in the travel trailer and we pull the trailer out of the shed and plug it into a different circuit. Everything works fine for about 3 hours and then the lights go dim and the air conditioner stops for about 5 seconds. Then the light come back up and the air conditioner starts working. I checked the power panel/breaker/fuse panel in the travel trailer and there is no damage or excessive heat, I checked the breaker panel at the pole and nothing there. We go to bed that night and everything was fine. Next day I decide to check the battery, by unplugging from the pole and the lights were very dim. I pulled the battery box cover from the battery and found the that the negative battery terminal had burned/melted a hole thru the top of the battery and burned the negative battery cable back about 6 inches melting it through the top of the battery fill cap, cutting it half in two. So, I know I have to replace the battery and fix the burnt negative cable, but what caused this? Was it the charging unit? Was it the battery (shorted internally)? or was is it possible since I did not maintain the water level on the battery? Is it safe to replace the battery and put it back in service? The battery was put into service April 2008. I do have a back ground in HVAC, so do understand most things with electricity. Any advice.
