RE: TV bed liner or spray liner

My truck bed is covered with a fiberglass cap so I prefer the Bed Rug. Had a drop-in for a previous truck – never again.

Good Sam Membership Cards

I sent a check to Good Sam for two more years, which has been processed, through my account. This week I received an invoice for ERS membership and new membership cards for the ERS but have not received the new general membership cards. I am thinking about not having the Good Sam ERS service. We have two other ERS services that cover the tow vehicle, one of which is the On Star system that I have used in the past and works great. Not sure if it will cover the trailer. Has anyone else not received the new general membership cards? Guess I will have to give them a call.

RE: Black Friday "wally-docking"

Wal-Mart as a last resort all year. 90% of shopping done On-line. Christmas shopping is almost done-we do it during the entire year. Time to start packing to ship.

RE: What kind of chairs do you use for outdoor seating?

Coleman Director chairs with fold up table on side. We may add recliners this year, but so far have not found real comfortable ones.

RE: Where do you keep your portable generator?

I installed receivers on the rear to the frame rails and built a rack that slides into them. So far it has worked quite well with over 14k miles on the trailer.

RE: What to place under wheels during storage?

My tractor hauling trailer sits in the dirt outside and gets used about three or four times a year. The tires on it are 5 years old and there are no adverse effects that I can tell so far. The TT sits on gravel in a shed but it gets moved a lot more often. Normally it will not sit more than 6 or 8 weeks. I have no idea what is best. I do know that the glue in plywood will outgas and can cause some damage to other materials if contained in a closed space. If I were concerned, I would put the trailer on jacks to keep the tires off the ground.

in/out fantastic fan

Yesterday I finished installing the in/out fantastic fan in the vent hole over the bed. I put the Max-Air cover back on and the airflow is quite good in both directions. I used Etrnabond tape to seal it.

RE: Keeping toilet clean

I added a sprayer last winter and it works great. It is a lot cleaner to use than the brush. Our brush is getting lonely setting there rarely used.

RE: potable water

We keep about 10 or so gallons in ours while on the road traveling to use for potty stops and clean up after lunch breaks. In the spring I do the bleach thing before we leave on the first trip. Our trips are for several weeks/months so the water in and out of the fresh tank is frequent.

RE: Jayco trailers

I went to look at the Jayco TT that we would consider. Decided to keep the Rockwood because of the available storage in the living/kitchen area and the larger bathroom area. Also we really like the light-open feeling we get with the white interior. We thought the Jayco having a bedroom slide would make it a better floor plan and it did have more closet rod area and you could walk all around the bed but those features did not out weigh the ones mentioned that we have with the Rockwood.

RE: Generator

I built a rack on the trailer by mounting receivers directly to the frame rails of the TT that the rack slides into.

RE: Generator

We use a Honda 3000. Last year we used it quite a bit, mostly when stopping for lunch at rest stops and a couple of times over night. This year the weather was cooler and we did not use it a lot at lunchtime. We did use it some when the power in the RV Parks went out due to storms. For us it is worth the cost. Also, we have used when parked at someone’s house where power was not available.

RE: Awning

I have one from Carefree that I installed. Works real well. It came with good instructions and all the necessary hardware

RE: Jayco trailers

We currently have a Rockwood 8314SS Ultra-Lite and love the floor plan and white interior but are not happy with the soft floor, which I am learning is a problem with Rockwood’s. We will be looking at a Jayco Eagle 320RLDS for next summers travels. When we purchased the Rockwood it was the best for us with the truck we had. Now that I can pull a heavier trailer we are planning to upgrade to a Jayco.

RE: electric awning

The awning that came with hour Rockwood was an A & E electric. It would not tilt or dump. It was destroyed. I replaced it with a Carefree Eclipse that tilts and dumps. I leave it open and tie it down with screw in anchors, rope and a 36” rubber bungee chord over the roller at each end. It has been is some real storms and held up.

RE: Any comments re: Rockwood 8315BSS?

We have the 8314SS and love the floor plan. The only problem is the floor is getting soft along the heat vent duck area in the floor. I have visited with other Rockwood Ultra-Lite owners with the same issue. We have pulled it 14K miles in two summers. It is a 2008 model.

RE: Does a digital thermostat cause more cycling of furnace?

Related question. What company makes a digital thermostat that has the two-speed fan switch? I realize that you can add a switch to do that but I would prefer one as part of the digital thermostat, not an add-on. We run the A/C on low fan most of the time but occasionally need it on high for short periods.

RE: New truck?

I bought 2002 Tundra to haul my antique tractors with and it was not up to the job. I traded for a 1/2 ton GM 6.0 gas engine truck and it was great for the tractors. In 2008 we bought a Rockwood Ultra Lite travel trailer and pulled it with the 1/2 ton GM 6.0 gas engine. It pulled it but spend a lot of time in lower gears in headwinds and hills. I visited with several diesel truck owners and one fellow camper I talked to owned a diesel shop. He was driving a Dodge but told me his next would be a Duramax. I bought a 2500HD Duramax Crew cab and it doesn’t know the trailers are back there. Based on the conversations I had and the research I was able to do it appeared that the GM Duramax/Allison combination was the best all around. I did learn that the 2010 models have additional emission control features that are not user friendly and add to the operational cost + the cost is a lot higher to purchase.

GM 2500 hitch flex?

I just read a post in the TT section that inferred that the GM 2500 hitch flexed to the point that the TV would be un steady in an up and down motion. I replaced the GM 1500 hitch in the previous TV because of a cracked weld and I assumed that the GM 2500 HD trucks had a sufficient hitch to handle the rated loads. Is this a fact that several users have reported or just someone’s opinion? Thanks

RE: Satellites for TT

We take a box out of one of the guest bedrooms in the house and put in the trailer. I have a portable dish with a single head that I bought at Camping World. We do not get HD with it for the TT. The other thing is we tend to park in wooded areas and some times it is impossible to get a signal. I carry a 100’ of cable. The local channels go away when you get very far from home.
