RE: Grand Teton Park, Moran, WY

+34 or whatever we are at on Colter Bay!!! Been our family favorite since 1972 when we stopped there for a nite on the way home from Alaska. Ended up staying longer because we loved it so much, and have been returning whenever possible!

RE: 2006 Jayco 23B wheel help

Bought 14 inch rims/tires a few years ago for our 23B. Like the extra load capacity as the 13 inchers seemed to work ok, but as long as it was time to replace...got something a little more beefy.

RE: Smokey Mountains - Day Trip Ideas

We are heading to the Smokies May 8-13. We will be staying at Townsend KOA. I've looked up hikes and we are considering: Abrams Falls Very nice hike Laurel Falls short paved hike, usually crowded Rainbow Falls a more difficult hike, but a good one Grotto Falls Easier than Rainbow, can walk behind the waterfall, and lots of area for kids to explore Chimney Tops very steep Clingman's Dome paved, but gives overview of the land Which of the above are MUST do in your mind and which could be skipped? Hikes need to be about 5miles or less round trip. We need a couple easier ones for my brother in law who is very able but still disabled and uses crutches. Car rides to view scenery are great but the kids usually lose interest quickly. How about tubing the river? In Townsend more of easy ride, we like Deep Creek tubing. It is faster moving water. Almost zero interest in heading to touristy trap towns. For a "ice cream break" there is Glades old fashioned Soda Fountain, East of Gatlinburg on the craft loop. So what am I missing? What would you recommend we do or where should we head? I'd hate to drive all that way and only come to find out we missed something really cool.

RE: Share reasons why you upgraded from a PUP to a HTT or TT?

Had a pup for many years. Love the "camping" feel they provide. We switched to an HTT for the larger fridge that was needed for some health issues that required meds kept cold, and the cooler deal just wasn't working when we were out for a week or longer. Now that we have switched, we have enjoyed the ability to load/pack with ease. No cranking up everytime, or crawling in to stock the mini fridge. Coming from a tent, you will feel like you in a castle! The space, large fridge and a freezer, easier set up, tho setting the pup never bothered me,and the bathroom are all nice, to be sure. A regular TT was out as we wanted to feel, smell and hear the outdoors. Open the windows and the tent ends and it is very open. If we get extended rain, the extra inside space is nice as well. Maybe you should rent a pup for a weekend.

RE: bed size in HTT

IF.... and I know it is a big "if", you don't mind dropping the table down every night, the 23B U shaped dinette makes a huge bed. It extends the full interior of the trailer. You don't mention which Roo you are looking at, but if it is the 23SS, the slide is also much larger than the 23B giving you more floorspace. I know we hunted to find the "best" camper for us, and that meant going in units and picturing where everyone and everything would go. Not having many HTT's out west( so I hear ) would sure make things more difficult. I will say, as others have said, that the 80" ends have been fine for us with two sons over 6'. Heck, my youngest, 19, always wants to sleep on the sofa, so go figure! Good luck!

RE: MI - Grand Tetons - Yellowstone - Badlands - Dells - MI

I am with the others on more time in the West vs the Dells, but I am certain your kids will enjoy the waterpark after truckin' across the country.

RE: MI - Grand Tetons - Yellowstone - Badlands - Dells - MI

d, mirror lake is a nice park and at least your away from the hustle of the dells. your plans look great, and i sure wish that was our summer trip! We have done the Tetons/Yellowstone trip a number of times, it is a family favorite ever since my parents took us there in the 70's. One thing that is a must for our gang is the Barker Ewing Snake River whitewater raft trip. It leaves from Jackson, the senic one in the park is beautiful, but the whitewater ride is just a blast! If you want to catch the local rodeo, book your raft trip in the morning, shop Jackson for the aft and do the shootout and rodeo in the evening. I believe the rodeo is only on Weds and Sat.

Tuscaloosa to the Smokys??

Picking up my son @ Alabama and then heading to Elkmont in GSMNP and I am not certain of the way to go. I don't want to take a ton of time unless there is a rte that is worth going for the scenery. Pulling a 24' trailer and do not mind mtn roads. Any thoughts from veterans out there?

RE: What is the longest period of time you have spent camping?

3 weeks from WI to Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons and back. Never had any issues and would have loved to have spent more time but this thing called work always seem to get in the way!

RE: Advise wanted on purchase - new vs used

Bought ours used and have had no problems,as well as the two other previous campers, so saving the 4K sounds good IF as said the 17K is really the best price for the new unit. Get the best price on a new one first, then you will have real numbers to work with. As for checking out a used unit, you have really got to give her a real good looking over, inch by inch, and check all the operations. Also a wife with a real sensitive sniffer comes in handy;)!! We walked in and the marched right back out of a bunch of trailers that I didn't smell a thing wrong with, but she did.
