RE: Need help with a propane problem I think??

try lighting a stove burner briefly. This'll quickly purge air out of the lines, if that's causing the problem.
Jim hit the nail on the head.
Whenever I turn the propane off AT THE TANK, I ALWAYS have to light the stove first in order to purge the air out of the lines.
NOTHING will light until I do that.
Try it and let us know what happens.

RE: Laptop DVD Player sometimes jerky

Your computer needs more RAM memory or Video RAM depending on how your computer routes the video stream to the screen.
Your computer does not have enough memory to seamlessly load the video for viewing so it breaks the video stream into segments then shows one segment, emptying the RAM before it loads another segment into RAM for viewing.
It's like taking a driving a trip with a small fuel tank. You have to stop more often to refill the tank than with a large fuel tank.

RE: Towing a Honda Fit

No way, a Mazda Miata five speed is NOT towable.
pgeddes,
It sounds as if you ruined the transmission of a Miata while towing.
While I will never say that a Miata 5 speed IS ABSOLUTELY towable, I will say that there are at least 5 Miata owners who frequent this forum who are currently towing Miata 5-speeds. I also know of 15-20 outside of this forum who are towing Miata 5-speeds.
Personally, just 3 weeks ago, my 2000 Miata 5-speed surpassed 25,000 miles being towed. Several times I have towed my Miata for 600 miles at a stretch without driving it.
Perhaps it depends on the car or precautions that the owners may take, but I don't think that you can definately state that a 5-speed Miata is NOT towable any more than we can state that it IS towable.

RE: North Ga. to Acton, Ca. in December

Thanks for any info.
Larry,
Because my mother lives in Laguna Hills (1/2 way between SD & LA) for the last 10 years, we have driven from Dallas and back twice each year. Once during the summer and always in January for her BD (she is 98). We've been 3 times this year. We just got back from there last Friday (10/23).
During January, we always take I-20 to I-10 to I-8 to I-805 then up the I-5 and off at El Toro.
In all of those 20+ trips, we have only had 1 bad drive (home). A couple of years ago, in Febrary, we hit a horriffic ice storm all across NM and west TX. Because our Suburban has 4-WD, we made it fine. I'd have probably stopped in the MH.
I would not worry about bad weather. It is what it is. If you hit a bad driving condition, pull into a town or rest stop and wait it out. It'll all be gone the next day.
Lemmie know if/when you come through Dallas. I'd love to drive down to I-20 to meet you both.

RE: So Sad !!! Winterized our Class C today....

All it takes is for a little condensation to remain in the lines somewhere and ..................
Hi John,
I did not mean to be hyper-critical, but I know a bunch of folks do one or the other, but not both.
It takes a LOT more than a "little condensation" for freezing temperatures to cause a problem in RV water lines.
The water that is freezing MUST be hydrostatically constrained in a confined space that prevents expansion. If freezing water is not constrained, it will not create enough pressure to rupture the container/water line. That is why the ice cube trays do not split open in a freezer. The tops are open and the water expands upward.
I truly understand your "belt AND suspenders" approach and if I lived in the frozen north I might feel that way too.

RE: So Sad !!! Winterized our Class C today....

What is "Winterizing" ? I don't think that we do that here in Texas (grin).
If you guys blow the readily freezable water out of the water lines, WHY do you then pump in not-easily frozen pink stuff ?
I thought that it was EITHER - OR. To me, the reason to blow out the lines is to have the lines DRY and NOT have to deal with the mess in the clean-up of the pink stuff.
Doing both sounds like overkill to me......

RE: Air Bags

Hi 'archer,
Specifically WHAT has been a problem for you on your Class C ?
The answer to your question is NO. I did not remove leaves or anything else.
I add enough air (60 psi per side) to raise the rear of the RV 1 1/2 to 2 inches at the wheel well. THAT puts load on the air bags.
The resulting ride in the back of my 22 ft. Class C is quite comfortable now.

RE: Digital Camera Recommendation

We are looking to purchase a new digital camera as our current one is showing it's age.
What does "showing it's age mean ?
Scuffed, scratched, dropped, rattles when you shake it, lens mount looser than it used to be, et.al.?
Even though I have 4 other digital cameras from near SLR down to pocket size, I still frequently use a rangefinder shaped 3MP Casio that I paid $1,000 for in 1988.
Although it shows some of the dettributes above, it still performs well and still provides some exceptional pictures.
That said, I still have 9 35mm and medium format film cameras with over a dozen lenses and a closet FULL of color and B&W film and paper processing stuff.
I also still have 2 cars that I have had for 35 and 25 years.
Hmm..... I see a pattern here. Maybe I just hate to get rid of "things".

RE: Towing with 5.7 Chevrolet engine in 24' Class C

I have a 22' Class C with the 5.7 Chev engine (90,000 miles).
Right now, we're in Rock Springs, WY with a 2,400# Miata in tow.
I also regularly pull a 16' enclosed car trailer with a British sports car inside (4,500# total).
I have pulled the trailer and Healey from Dallas to both coasts.
Don't worry about it. Just get in and GO have FUN !

RE: CB Antenna on a Class C

Being so low, does it impeed reception?
Below is a picture.
It seems to work very well, I have no trouble hearing or getting out.
Just in case of a "severe" emergency, I have a 100+ watt "foot warmer" wired in, but have never turned it on.

RE: CB Antenna on a Class C

Any other good options besides drilling a hole in your wall or in the roof?
Search for "CB" or "Antenna". There was a pretty extensive thread on this topic about 2 weeks ago.
It was either in Class C or in the Technical areas.
The original poster ended up putting his antenna on the ladder and explains how he did it.
Personally, I use the "Unicorn" approach, sticking my magnetic base antenna to the hood.

RE: VHS tape

Anybody have any other ideas about recording off air?
I recently bought a Magnavox single Chassis DVD & VHS RECORDER in order to transfer our extensive collection of VHS & VHS-C tapes onto DVDs. We have many tapes of old TV programs and of the kids when they were little.
The thing works very well. I can record off air onto VHS or DVD by plugging into the TV or or can record previously recorded programs from the DVR onto either VHS or DVD.
I bought this unit a couple of months ago at Big Lots for $79.99. I'd buy it again !

RE: Hey Folks-Look OUT for DEM BOLTS

Back in the early to mid-90's when I worked for a top end military contractor, the government put out a directive to all of it's contractors that required metallurgical and stress testing of all bolts.
One of the suppliers of fasteners for armored vehicles was using Chinese supplied bolts and the turrets were popping off of tanks while under way. Not a good thing !
While the whole military supply system was not infected, there were quite a few instances of unacceptable and/or weak hardware (bolts).
I would NOT doubt for a moment that some of that same hardware got into the automotive supply chain and remnants may still be in use.
