RE: Dingy towing a rear wheel drive vehicle??

On the BMW a 5 speed manual is towable a 6 speed is not! Don't know what they changed but the newer gearbox is not approved. Even though it may not be "approved", might it still be towable? For example, I and more than 40 others that I know tow a Miata as do several others on this Forum. According to Mazda, NO Miata is towable. With the probably low numbers of people who desire to tow one, maybe BMW just does not want to spend the $$ to certify the car as towable. Tim

RE: flat towing 2003 Madza Miata behind my Class A motorhome

you will probably see excessive front tire wear on the miata Why is that? What would cause "excessive front tire wear" on the Miata? Tim

RE: Need recommendations for rv service near Conroe, Texas

Tommy, A couple of months ago, on a Friday afternoon, while on the way from Dallas to Galveston, our RV suddenly quit at mile marker 9 (just before the bay bridge) on I-45. I called Good Sams roadside assistance and within an hour they had towed our 22' Class C to Dues Camping Center located at mile marker 19 on I-45. We continued on to Galveston in the towed. Dues had the RV for a couple of days, fixed it, and the bill was very reasonable. Although it is 75 miles south of you, I would STRONGLY recommend them. They were very good to us. Tim PS - It turned out that mice at our storage lot had been munching on the engine wiring harnesses.

RE: ?? for retired law enforcement....

Try a free search web site called Zabasearch. IF they have a landline phone, I've had very good luck finding people there. Tim

THIS LINK goes to a LIVE web cam directed at the Peggy's Cove, NS Lighthouse If you catch it soon, there is a heck of a surf going on there. Change the refresh rate (at the bottom of the pic) to 1 second for even more action. Tim

RE: Connecting with FoxFi

I recently got a HTC 4G LTE smart phone running Android 4.0.4. Tim Tim, exactly what HTC model and Android version is it? I don't know what I can tell you more than I told you. HERE is the phone. I had the HTC Incredible 1 & 2 before this one. Android 4.0.4 seems to be Android 4.0.3–4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (API level 15) I'd appreciate any help you can give. I have a blue-tooth dongle for the laptop, but I haven't tried it yet. I'll go get blueDUN and see what I can do with it. Thanks, It was only AFTER I visited the HTC web site that I understood why you asked what model the phone was. I didn't realize that there were so many different HTC 4G LTE Models. MY bad! Tim

Connecting with FoxFi

I recently got a HTC 4G LTE smart phone running Android 4.0.4. I want to use FoxFi to connect my HP laptop to the Internet via Wi-Fi hotspot when in places with no poor or no Wi-Fi. I have the FoxFi App loaded and when the FoxFi App is ON, I can connect my laptop to the Wi-Fi signal, but cannot connect to the Net. The FoxFi web site says that my HTC IS supported. Verizon says that since PDAnet bought FoxFi, they have been upgrading the software to allow all of the newest & latest phones to connect and that "someday" it WILL work. They also say that the only thing that will work for sure is to buy the paid version of PDAnet and tether with a USB cable. Anybody else had this problem connecting? Are there any other viable solutions? Tim

RE: What would you buy?

What would you buy? Since she likes the Nook a lot, buy a new battery. They are all over Ebay for $25 or less. Tim

RE: Vehicles you could of bought, wished you did, but didn't

Even my favourite colour...dark green. The color is a late 90s Ford named Pacific Green Metallic. Are those four SU's mounted on a custom manifold ? The 4 SUs are actually bolted to a rectangular "plenum" or mixing chamber. Imagine a cigar box standing on edge. The plenum is then bolted to an Edelbrock single-plane intake manifold. As the round disc pulley on the front is rotated by a throttle pull cable, it opens the butterfly plates in all 4 carbs. There is an identical pulley on the back, linked by a stainless steel shaft, that rotates to pull the TV cable to the transmission. There is no kit for any of this... Everything had to be engineered, fabricated, and assmbled. Tim

RE: Vehicles you could of bought, wished you did, but didn't

Hey Lessmore, I have combined your #1 and your #2 into the same vehicle. HERE is my Austin Healey http://www.ntahc.org/op/Tim&Sherry3.jpg and here is its 300 HP small block Ford engine. It has a 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission. http://www.ntahc.org/op/25b.jpg It's the best of both. I've still got it and still drive it. Recently I added A/C, different carburetion, and replaced the distributor with an electronic ignition. Here is its new look. http://www.ntahc.org/op/4Carbs1.jpg Tim

RE: how to wire charge line to dingy from motorhome

The typical vendor kits have 2 diodes per light in the toad so that the toad and MH electrical systems are isolated from one another. OK, but I thought this thread was about a charge line, not about tail lights. What keeps the MH electrical system and the towed electrical system isolated if the charge lines are installed as described above? Maybe isolation is not all that important after all... OR is it? Tim

RE: how to wire charge line to dingy from motorhome

Judging from some of the responses in the "diodes or not" thread below, I'm surprised that someone hasn't suggested installing a diode in the MH-to-Towed +12 VDC feed line in order to make sure that the towed power doesn't backfeed into the MH and cause some catastrophic electrical damage. Tim

Healeyman (Tim) will put you on the right road. Larry, Thanks for the kind words. I am sorry, however, that we Miata towers have lost you over to the dark side :B, but I sure understand needing more room. Tim

Bon x2 I towed a 2000 5-speed over 35,000 miles http://www.ntahc.org/op/RV&Miata1.jpg and have now towed a 2010 6-speed Retractable Hardtop over 12,000 miles. http://www.ntahc.org/op/RV&Miata2.jpg In the past 7 years, I have helped nearly 50 other Miata owners to get their Miatas set up to tow. I can probably tell you all you need to know and can tell you where to get the hardware that you will need. If your Miata is a MANUAL transmission and you want to tow it, Private Message (PM) your Email address to me and we can get started getting your Miata towable. Tim
