RE: Digital Picture Frames?

I'm confused on which one to get. Any advise??
I'd say, buy a well known brand name from a distributor that has a good return policy.
A couple of years ago, I bought 6 and gave them as Christmas gifts. Most of them run 24/7 and two of them have failed. One failed shortly, the other failed within the first year.
I got both of them replaced at no charge.

RE: Digital Picture Frames?

Check out the resolution. They vary all over the map. The higher the resolution, the better the picture quality. The low resolution that looks fine on a small frame won't look so good on a larger one.
Actually, the resolutions (= pixels PER inch), are pretty much all the same. Usually 72 PPI. What varies widely is the number of pixels accross the width and up the height of the frame image screen (= pixels PER inch X # of inches).
The number of total pixels across the image file to be shown should closely match the total pixels across the picture frame image screen.
For example, a 640 X 480 (VGA) image will look OK on a 600-700 pixel frame, but will NOT look as good on an 800-1000 frame.
Conversely, it does NO good to load a picture that is MUCH larger (e.g. 3-4-5 MP) to a smaller screen.
Clearer/sharper pictures are NOT acheived by loading an image file that is significantly larger (or smaller) than the native pixel count of the display screen.
I'd say, go ahead and buy the frame size that best suits the location for it and keep the recipient updated with properly sized pictures.

RE: Digital Picture Frames?

after awhile it just sits and runs and nobody looks at it anymore. Waste money as far as I am concerned.
Two years ago, I bought six Kodak 5"x7" digital picture frames and gave them as Christmas gifts. Before I gave them, I loaded the SD chip with about 500 pictures of our trips, children and grandchildren from the previous 2 years.
Every 6 months or so, I send out a new chip with 100-200 new pictures added to the ones that were already there. They plug-in the new chip and send the old one back to me.
On the chips for my 98 year old mom and for my kids, I've added a lot of family pictures from back in the 1920s up to the present time.
On the chip for my mother in law, I've added old pictures of their family.
Everybody loves them and most have them running 24/7. The picture couunt is now up over 1,000 per chip.
All agree it is the best present they have gotten in years ! It's not always just the gift, but what you do with it.

RE: Verizon Droid??? Anyone have one yet???

why don't you use the voice method of placing calls?
It works badly too. There is NO bluetooth voice dialing. One can only use bluetooth after the call has been connected manually.
The voice dialing on the phone is not very discriminatory. For example, if you have 3 "Jims" and you want to call one of them, EVEN IF you tell the Droid the last name, it only homes in on "Jim" and gives you all 3 on the screen to manually choose from PLUS a couple of "sounds like" such as Tim, Jane, etc.
There is no way to sort the address book by first name or last name. If you want to call someone by using the last name first, it gets lost. I put in all of my contacts by last name first, so if you have 5 of the Smith family, it'll make you manually choose which one you want.
Terrible to use while driving and that's just the start of the things I didn't like. I took it back.

RE: Tail Wagging the Dog

Most likely it is a miss-aligned base plate on the TOAD.
How would a mis-aligned base plate on the towed cause the towed to sway or swing right-to-left ?

MrJaJa,
Hey Udo ! I wrote below before I looked at your profile and saw who you are. - Tim

I LOVE the Healey. KEWEL !
PLEASE tell me that you are on a BEACH somewhere and didn't take your Healey out onto the salt at Bonneville......
In September, we went to Bonneville to watch a couple of Healeys recreate Donald Healey's record runs of 1954.
To see, go to www.ntahc.org and click on (or under) the picture.
Salt is a car KILLER ! I took my Miata (visible in some of the pictures) and I am still getting salt out of corners.
Here is MY Healey

RE: Verizon Droid??? Anyone have one yet???

I've had my Droid for a coupla' weeks now.
For ME, the negatives FAR outweigh the positives. It takes me 4 clicks just to make a phone call and that is impossible to do while driving and there is easy and/or simole speed, voice, or bluetooth dialing.
Instead of being a phone first and everything else second, this Droid is a pocket computer that also (badly) makes phone calls.
I'm typing this on a laptop and the keyboard is "almost" as bad as the Droid KB.
It's going back on Monday.

RE: Need help with a propane problem I think??

try lighting a stove burner briefly. This'll quickly purge air out of the lines, if that's causing the problem.
Jim hit the nail on the head.
Whenever I turn the propane off AT THE TANK, I ALWAYS have to light the stove first in order to purge the air out of the lines.
NOTHING will light until I do that.
Try it and let us know what happens.

RE: Laptop DVD Player sometimes jerky

Your computer needs more RAM memory or Video RAM depending on how your computer routes the video stream to the screen.
Your computer does not have enough memory to seamlessly load the video for viewing so it breaks the video stream into segments then shows one segment, emptying the RAM before it loads another segment into RAM for viewing.
It's like taking a driving a trip with a small fuel tank. You have to stop more often to refill the tank than with a large fuel tank.

RE: Towing a Honda Fit

No way, a Mazda Miata five speed is NOT towable.
pgeddes,
It sounds as if you ruined the transmission of a Miata while towing.
While I will never say that a Miata 5 speed IS ABSOLUTELY towable, I will say that there are at least 5 Miata owners who frequent this forum who are currently towing Miata 5-speeds. I also know of 15-20 outside of this forum who are towing Miata 5-speeds.
Personally, just 3 weeks ago, my 2000 Miata 5-speed surpassed 25,000 miles being towed. Several times I have towed my Miata for 600 miles at a stretch without driving it.
Perhaps it depends on the car or precautions that the owners may take, but I don't think that you can definately state that a 5-speed Miata is NOT towable any more than we can state that it IS towable.

RE: North Ga. to Acton, Ca. in December

Thanks for any info.
Larry,
Because my mother lives in Laguna Hills (1/2 way between SD & LA) for the last 10 years, we have driven from Dallas and back twice each year. Once during the summer and always in January for her BD (she is 98). We've been 3 times this year. We just got back from there last Friday (10/23).
During January, we always take I-20 to I-10 to I-8 to I-805 then up the I-5 and off at El Toro.
In all of those 20+ trips, we have only had 1 bad drive (home). A couple of years ago, in Febrary, we hit a horriffic ice storm all across NM and west TX. Because our Suburban has 4-WD, we made it fine. I'd have probably stopped in the MH.
I would not worry about bad weather. It is what it is. If you hit a bad driving condition, pull into a town or rest stop and wait it out. It'll all be gone the next day.
Lemmie know if/when you come through Dallas. I'd love to drive down to I-20 to meet you both.

RE: So Sad !!! Winterized our Class C today....

All it takes is for a little condensation to remain in the lines somewhere and ..................
Hi John,
I did not mean to be hyper-critical, but I know a bunch of folks do one or the other, but not both.
It takes a LOT more than a "little condensation" for freezing temperatures to cause a problem in RV water lines.
The water that is freezing MUST be hydrostatically constrained in a confined space that prevents expansion. If freezing water is not constrained, it will not create enough pressure to rupture the container/water line. That is why the ice cube trays do not split open in a freezer. The tops are open and the water expands upward.
I truly understand your "belt AND suspenders" approach and if I lived in the frozen north I might feel that way too.

RE: So Sad !!! Winterized our Class C today....

What is "Winterizing" ? I don't think that we do that here in Texas (grin).
If you guys blow the readily freezable water out of the water lines, WHY do you then pump in not-easily frozen pink stuff ?
I thought that it was EITHER - OR. To me, the reason to blow out the lines is to have the lines DRY and NOT have to deal with the mess in the clean-up of the pink stuff.
Doing both sounds like overkill to me......

RE: Air Bags

Hi 'archer,
Specifically WHAT has been a problem for you on your Class C ?
The answer to your question is NO. I did not remove leaves or anything else.
I add enough air (60 psi per side) to raise the rear of the RV 1 1/2 to 2 inches at the wheel well. THAT puts load on the air bags.
The resulting ride in the back of my 22 ft. Class C is quite comfortable now.

RE: Digital Camera Recommendation

We are looking to purchase a new digital camera as our current one is showing it's age.
What does "showing it's age mean ?
Scuffed, scratched, dropped, rattles when you shake it, lens mount looser than it used to be, et.al.?
Even though I have 4 other digital cameras from near SLR down to pocket size, I still frequently use a rangefinder shaped 3MP Casio that I paid $1,000 for in 1988.
Although it shows some of the dettributes above, it still performs well and still provides some exceptional pictures.
That said, I still have 9 35mm and medium format film cameras with over a dozen lenses and a closet FULL of color and B&W film and paper processing stuff.
I also still have 2 cars that I have had for 35 and 25 years.
Hmm..... I see a pattern here. Maybe I just hate to get rid of "things".
