I had never been camping in my life until I met BF and went camping in a tent with him and his teenaged daughter at 38. I hated it. BF had been tent camping his whole life, and he just didn't understand why I didn't enjoy peeing in the woods and getting poison oak on my hiney! I went tent camping twice and swore to never ever do it again. I am 44 now and BF is 43, and in January, we bought a new to us Class C and absolutely LOVE it. Now, when he says, "Let's go camping!", I'm out the door faster than he is.
RE: Another Rant - can't help it!!
I really want to be a good neighbor when I camp. We strive to follow the basic rules of courtesy. Since I am so "green" at this, I do have a couple of questions. Our first, and only RV trip so far, was to Fort Pickens. When we arrived, the fire pit was empty. While we were there, we built a fire in it. When we left, there were 2 partially burned logs in it and some small wood chips around it that broke off when BF was using a hatchet to bust up a piece of firewood into kindling. I wanted to leave the site as we found it, but we had no idea what to do with the left over logs. It was pouring down rain for 12 hours before we left, so I know they were out and in no danger of re-igniting. Should we have just bagged them up and thrown them in the dumpster?

I didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but here is the recipe for O'Charley's Mango Mai Tai. We have the recipe as follows: 4 oz Pineapple Juice, 1.5 oz Malibu Mango Rum, .5 oz Amaretto, grenadine, and maraschino cherries. Mix the Juice, Rum and Amaretto in a shaker glass with ice and shake until chilled and transfer to glass. Float about 1 TBSP of the grenadine in the glass and add a couple of cherries. I don't drink at all, but BF says they taste just like O'Charley's and he loves them.

We bought the brushed nickle version twice. There was something wrong with the first one. Could not get water to come out of the shower head no matter what we tried. The second one, we hooked up with no problem. We did choose to put the shut off valve on the end of the hose closer to the hot and cold water valve instead of on the end closest to the shower head because we kept hitting the shut off valve and turning off the spray accidentally.
RE: Don't Buy and Old Motorhome Unless...
We bought ours as a older unit and did discover that it needed a few minor repairs and a little updating. The brass fixture in the bathroom were in need of replacement and the hot water heater did not heat on electric. BF was able to fix both of these problems, and the dealer tried to tell me it would be about $250 to fix it at his shop. We were able to get it done for around $45 including shipping. Also, I was very disappointed to find out that the oil and the air filter were black as coal when BF first looked at it. That has all been changed, including the oil in the generator. I hope we don't encounter any future problems due to that. I believe we've got a good one, and I pray I don't wind up eating my words, but I am tickled to death with my purchase.

Congratulations for your new home! We just got a new Class C and it its a dream come true. Now if we could go full time that would be phase 2 of dream! Great job on the towing. I have driven the C on the road but don't have toad yet! My Dh used to drive a truck too and he was also Defensive driving instructor for Fed Ex so he is a pretty good teacher also. Like you, I realy want to learn to drive, park and tow. I guess I'll get around to learning. We were at Fort Pickens a couple of weeks ago on our first trip in RV. I really liked it there even though it was rainy and cold most of the time.
Anyway, hope you have many happy travel days in your beautiful new RV. I saw the pics!
We are gonna make it, Littlemo! BF told his old "mentor", the Swift driver that trained BF to drive, that I broke down in tears after a little while, and he said not to feel bad, he had some grown men break down squalling after the stress of the first few hours of driving too. He did say that BF wasn't one of them, but I know he felt like it. Tony, "the mentor", used to be a military helicopter pilot and he is actually the one that put the cannon in place in Fort Pickens, btw.
My next test is to live in it for a couple of weeks while it is parked beside my office. I'll still come home to do the laundry once or twice a week, but I need to know that I won't go insane looking at the side of a metal building. At the moment, I don't think I'll have any problem, but I am still in vacation mode. By then, I'll be ready to put the house on the market.

WTG, Jfortoday! The whole reason I bought the Cruze was so that I could tow 4 down, so I'm a little jealous that you have the capability. Just as I decided to go with the Cruze instead of one of the many Ford's that are flat towable, GM changed their mind about the capability of the Cruze and sent out letters voiding the warranty if it was towed 4 down. They did help me out by paying $1500 toward the purchase of the tow dolly, though. I was satisfied with that.
I will admit that, by the end of my 3 hours of driving, I was very stressed out and tired and tense. So much so that I had a little crying jag the last few miles because I was so uncomfortable driving at that point, but BF insisted that I make it to the rest area before pulling over to let him drive, and at this point, I'm glad that he did insist because it proved to me that I could push myself just a little harder and get things done.

I love the excitement. I get to camp some year round here in Florida but I always look forward to the summer camping season when the DW is off (school bus driver) because we get to spend a few weeks in the trailer at our favorite swimming spots. It is truly a home away from home.
It really was a home away from home. Because of some very careful planning after doing tons of research on this site, I can say that we had absolutely everything we needed to be as comfortable as we could have been at home or anywhere else. We even have empty cabinets and drawers all over the place. I was shocked that there was still available storage space, and we had anything that our hearts might desire. As a matter of fact, the RV is now stocked better than the house! I used baskets of all shapes and sizes to put everything in and keep it from sliding around inside the cabinets while we drove, and that worked out like a dream. Everything was still in the same general vicinity when we arrived at our destination as it was when we left. The space is so much easier to keep clean and tidy than the house. BF even ran the broom at one point because there is only about 8 feet of kitchen floor to get clean. Happy, HaPPy, HAPPY!!!

That sounds like a very cool toad there, 62Doka, and thanks for the encouragement. I am just so tickled with the way that everything went, and even though we had to break camp in the rain, everything went just as smooth as silk. It did take both of us to avoid one little mishap. BF was about to move the RV without disconnecting the electric cord. We almost got a little ahead of ourselves. We went to Fort Pickens, btw. We tried fishing off the pier, but whatever was biting was just nibbling off my bait, and I never could hook it. Maybe a Sheepshead? Anyway, it was just not our day, and from the look of the action around us, it wasn't anyone else's either. :-)

Oh, yes! It's ON NOW! I have decided that I am absolutely in LOVE with RVing! This was, without a doubt, the most satisfied I have ever been with any purchase. This RV is exactly what I needed, and I never want to leave it! I'm giddy with excitement over what lies ahead. It's an adventure, to say the least. I want to say thanks to every single one of you and all of your helpful advice. Because of reading this site, I was able to load & unload the tow dolly, hook up the amenities like electric & sewer, and it didn't hurt that BF is a commercial driver and did the bulk of the driving.
Since it was only my 2nd time to drive anything that big, plus a toad, I got to attend the BF driving academy. I drove on the interstate for about 3 hours. He took over driving in the cities in the tight spots and driving in a lot of traffic. (Thank you, sweet man.) I did learn that in order to help prevent what he called "the weebly wobblies" or, allow me to translate, "swaying in the lane from left to right, caused by over correcting". If you look ahead of you about 100 yards, you will automatically drive a steadier track. I was appreciative of his advice too and wanted to share that. It might be common knowledge to more experienced RVers, but it was news to me...LOL.
RE: Any one else need a hard hat in their RV ??
I'll take one of those RVing hard hats, NanciL! I don't need it for items shifting in the cabinets, because I have almost everything in baskets inside each cabinet, so there isn't a lot of shifting going on there, but I need it for the bedroom. We have a short Queen bed, so I scoot toward the head of the bed as far as I can so that not as much of my feet and legs are hanging off the end. When I sit up quickly, it is almost guaranteed that my head will hit the cabinets over the bed. Also, I have hit it a couple of times while scooting back onto the bed as well.

Headed to Fort Pickens next weekend. The rates are still $20 and the road is open. There are some renovations going on in the some of the bath houses, but business is still booming and we were lucky to get a site with just 2 weeks notice. Got the only one left on A loop, and we were lucky that it would just fit our rig and toad.

I see your point there, Tony, but actually, I have much more respect for the new wife than I do the ex-husband. She's a good person. He is not.

I have State Farm insurance on my RV. Took their underwriting department almost 6 weeks to actually issue the policy after I paid for it. I met with my agent just today as a matter of fact to go over my coverage. The only thing interesting that he mentioned is that my ex-husband is still carrying a life insurance policy on me. That kind of creeps me out. Nothing I can do about it, according to the agent. He says that because he had an interest in my well-being when the policy was issued, he can keep it as long as he pays the premiums. I think I'll call his new wife and let her know. I bet there's something she can do about it.

I drove my RV for the first time ever today! Not far, just to the Shell station a few miles down the road, but there is no damage to the RV or mailboxes or street signs or anything.

My ex and I had several cats. 2 of them were adopted as adult cats and came to our home already declawed. Because of that, they were never allowed outside alone because of their inability to protect themsevles (the ones with claws never went outside either). The other cats, we acquired while they were kittens. They were never declawed. They scratched and clawed every piece of furniture in my house and completely ignored the scratching post and carpeted kitty condos. The declawed cats "sharpened" their non-existent claws just like the ones with claws and in the exact same places. The only difference is that they weren't doing any damage. I personally, and honestly, have experienced both and can say without doubt that the declawed cats have absolutely no idea that they do not possess claws just like any other cat and they are much more enjoyable to own. If I ever adopt another cat, I will definitely have it declawed.

Thanks ecoast for the info. I ordered some samples of Textilene and drew up a giant bucket beach tote pattern over the weekend. I mocked one up out of a canvas-y fabric I had on hand, complete with pockets and a rope draw string, and I can't wait to sew up the mesh version! Will post pics when I complete my creation :)
Please post pics. I'm not "crafty" at all and anything that involves more than stick glue is out of my skill set.

Took "The Hilton" for a ride today. This was my first time to actually ride in it. "The Beautiful Bulldog" went on the ride with us, and an hour into the ride, she finally quit panting and laid down behind the driver's seat. I think she finally realized that it was all good. Replaced the electric water heater element since the water wasn't getting hot on electric and that still didn't fix the problem. BF went through the wires and found a short between the the battery and the switch. He bypassed the switch and ran the wire straight to the element and now we have hot water!

6 months ago, before we bought the RV, I purchased 4 Correlle platters specifically to use in the RV when we found the one we wanted to purchase. They were just plain old frost white platters. Nothing fancy about them in the least. When we started stocking up the RV, one of the first things I did was get those plates out of the cabinet, wash them up, and move them into the RV. BF fusses every single night (especially when we have spaghetti) because there's not enough room to spread his food out on the regular dinner plates that we have in the kitchen. He wanted to go get the platters out of the RV tonight because he didn't want his spaghetti sauce touching his garlic bread!
