RE: Consignment Sale Time Frame

Final Update... Going over to the dealership to pick up the check and drop off the title to the trailer. All's well that ends well. The transaction took 2 business days to fund the loan and 10 business days (as advertised p/o banking rule) = 12 days after sale. All my discomfort came from (guess what).... mis-understanding. IF the RV Salemen had introduced me to the consignment process by saying "WE don't get our payment and YOU don't get your payment until AFTER the State Imposed Banking Rule of a 10 day pause.... I wouldn't have flown off the handle suspecting foul play etc etc.... So folks... thanks for trying to help and if you ever find yourself selling through consignment... make sure you truly understand the process. Best to all of ya John (aka "Here" of the Here'n'There team)

RE: Consignment Sale Time Frame

Well.... ya know... I kinda feel like Romney right now.... ya know... shooting first and aiming later.... I asked another consignment dealer the question of timing between a vehicle consignment sale and the seller receiving "a check"... There is a State Law that requires a 10 business day pause between when the loan is funded and issuance of checks to BOTH the selling agent AND ultimately, the seller. The question then becomes how long does it take for a bank to "fund" the loan - and that amount of time varies from bank to bank - a day, a week? So another lesson learned: 1. I apologize to Uhlman's RV for any dispersions I have cast 2. Ask very specific questions and make sure you understand "the jargon" answers you get during the process. It's amazing how easy it is to mis-understand while thinking you completely understand. My deal is now in it's 10th BUSINESS day from sale (not counting Labor Day) so my check should be no more than a few days (maybe as much as a week?) away. I'll update when $$$$$$

RE: Consignment Sale Time Frame

Yeah.... it's now over two weeks since SOMEBODY bought my trailer and my wife and I have yet to receive a check, sign over the ORIGINAL TITLE. My gut has been telling me the same thing that jdog wrote. This is just too long a period of time for a simple transaction like this in the 21st century! There is A LOT of money in limbo somewhere but as we all know, is NEVER in limbo - someone somewhere some bank some accounts receivable or payable is COLLECTING INTEREST on MY money. News at 11

RE: Consignment Sale Time Frame

The day I signed the consignment contract the dealership did make a copy of my original title but it was not signed by anyone. Today is the 12th day after the sale..... like Alfred E. Newman made famous... What! Me Worry? You bet your bippie I am! As a P.S.: Uhlman's RV in Chehalis has a great service department but I am leaving a fair caution concerning their business practices in the consignment area. DW remembers the day we signed the contract me asking "generally how long will it be AFTER the sale for us to receive our check"... and the sales guy saying "about 2 days"!

RE: Consignment Sale Time Frame

Yes to all that mentioned... ask questions up front. I never ceased to amaze myself. I mean... I have a checklist for everything to do with the RV 1)Day before departure checklist; 2)Day of departure checklist; 3)Hooking up the truck checklist; ...4);5) etc.... And even though I think that the delay in receiving my check is a bit LONG, y'all make me more comfortable in knowing there is a delay (most responses). And so I'll leave it at this TEACHING MOMENT Prepare a checklist of QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE SIGNING THE CONTRACT!

Consignment Sale Time Frame

Hi Folks... Looking for someone who has sold their RV through a consignment dealer.... I think I mentioned that my 5th wheel was recently sold (Aug 29) by Uhlman's RV in Chehalis, WA. Cool. But here's a SURPRISE TO ME. Buyer's credit check, bank approval of the loan AND the buyer drove the trailer off the Uhlman's lot on Friday August 31. Uhlman's Sales Manager now tells me that it could take up to THREE WEEKS before I receive my check. And by the way... I still have the TITLE in my possession. Anyone with 1st hand knowledge of selling through consignment, please let me know if waiting 3 weeks after the sale to receive the check is NORMAL? Thanks

RE: Backyard

The folks that bought our 5er got it just in time for the labor day weekend - I hope they accumulate as many GREAT memories in it as DW and I did over the past 4 years. The day after we bought our Jeep from Tacoma Dodge, Jeep etc, I got a call from the car salesman looking for the key to the receiver lock I had forgotten about. We ran it over to them and he told me he just sold the truck to a guy who had his gasser 250 truck / 5er parked across the street. He unhitched the trailer, traded the truck in, hooked up to his new (to him) truck and away he went - just as happy as a clam. The truck was in even better shape than the trailer. No rain... I know... Our last "RV" home was in Graham, WA @ Mt Rainier View RV Park. We arrived there on July 1. I THINK it rained once since then. If you can believe the weather history for Gig Harbor over the last 4 years, in the months of January and February we can expect about 70% of the days to be mostly cloudy to rainy. I get the impression that Gig is far less "rainy" than along the coast. Doesn't matter really - we love Ansel Adams' photographs if ya get the drift.

Backyard

Well folks... those of you that "know me" know that DW and I have decided to come off the road and re-settle down again. So here we are in our Cliffside Apartment with this view off our balcony... http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z8uEmCLQ_g4/UEUodCNplNI/AAAAAAAABss/lKlhrjx4nZ4/s320/backyard.jpg Looking East across Puget Sound with the Tacoma-Narrows bridge to the right, and Mt. Rainier in the background. And if you're wondering about how the sale of the 5er went -- well, it sold thanks to Uhlman's RV in Chehalis, WA. It sold, after 4 months of trying to sell it ourselves, within 2 weeks of hitting their lot. Selling it on consignment probably cost us about $5K from what we might have gotten EVENTUALLY by selling ourselves. The truck (2008 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Long Bed Diesel Dually) ... I had it detailed and it looked like NEW - no kidding and IT sold within a couple days. So.... for the time being, this is the view we will have in this HUGE 2BR/ 2BA Apartment (huge = 1200 sq ft);). But eventually we will buy a (much) smaller TT for week getaways. We'll see ya on the road - one of these days. Regards, Here'n'There (aka now known as simply Here)

RE: Scared to buy

bps3040.... First I'll say that buying "used" is great for those that prefer going that route! NOT ME.... I sorta read between the lines of your post and conclude that you are a hard working guy. ME TOO... until I retired about 4 years ago. The way I figure it is... if ya have to $$$$ to buy exactly what ya want...THEN DARN IT... BUY IT! And yeah... you'll have maintenance issues, the trick is to find a dealer / manufacturer that stand behind their products. And you do that through lots and lots of research... and referrals... go back to your dealer and ask if they have customer reference contact lists. Ask about the dealer / manufacturer / model here and on similar sites. You know... DO YOUR HOMEWORK. So if I were you.... I'd get all that research done and get into that TT before you lose the rest of this years camping season. And like that TV commercial... IT'S YOUR MONEY... USE IT WHEN YOU NEED IT! Good Luck

RE: Tripod for Direct TV dish

I can't tell ya where I got it... 4 years ago, but mine does a good job supporting my Slimline 3LMB DirecTv dish... the 3 legs are heavy gauge tubular steel instead of the skinny square steel legs. I moved into an apartment and DirecTV brought a "SLED" to mount the dish, I'm sure ya know what I'm referring to .... it is made of angle iron and sits on the ground, ya put 4 cinder blocks on it,.... much more stable.

RE: Huff Post tells how to full time

I admit that I didn't read the entire article... I stopped when she wrote something like... try staying in RV parks for LESS THAN A MONTH because of the cost of electricity. Monthly stays typically require you to pay your own electric, less than a month it is included.... all generally true BUT in our experience.... $450 month rent + $100 (worse case electric) = $550/30 days = $19 / night. In that same park $180 weekly rent * 4 weeks = $24 / night Or.... $35 nightly rent = $35 / night In my experience these are typical charges for the parks we have been full timing in over the past 3+ years and the differences between monthly and weekly or daily speak for themselves. Best case you save $480/month (=$5760/year) over the nightly, and $150/month (=$1800/year)over the weekly rates. So just from the financial perspective, staying on a monthly plan will definitely save you (big?) dollars over time. And just to say it in one sentence....the pro's and con's of daily, weekly, monthly and extended stays considering all aspects have been discussed many many times.

Here's a peek at what may lay ahead

If you, like DW and I, decide to come off the full time road, here's a peek at what we have unloaded from the 5th wheel SO FAR... http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9S6z87DH878/UB2PxY1zLqI/AAAAAAAABrw/pkX1gamvC1w/s640/unloaded.jpg We still have enough stuff left in the trailer for a 1 week camping trip and haven't started unloading all the cleaning materials, fridge or freezer yet. So if you need to put stuff into storage (very) temporarily as we do for just a few days..... do NOT rent one of those little 6x10' sheds. MUCH to our surprise, we have nearly filled a 8x10x8' shed! :E :B

RE: This certainly qualifies

Assuming you have a flow restrictor (typically 2.5gpm?) somewhere in the plumbing and water was running for 1 hour... 60min x 2.5 gal per minute = 150 GALLONS. Not sure the size of your gray tank, say 60 gallons... 150 gallons - 60 gallons = somewhere around 90 GALLONS of water went SOMEWHERE and if not into a tank then where? Well, if you've read the vast majority of my posts / responses, you'll recognize me as a pretty much "the glass is half full" kind of guy. But in this case, if the time and numbers from above are anywhere near correct, I'm afraid my common sense is flashing a warning.... ESPECIALLY if your sub flooring is that OSB / particle board stuff which tends to turn punky in time when exposed to water. Hopefully you'll get responses that will tell you that I am ALL WET. I have my fingers crossed for ya. Good luck
