RE: Reserve america:

Someone said 48 other states to go to? I thought there was 49 others.
Well perhaps they left out Hawaii out of the count for obvious reasons.

RE: Reserve america:

Topsail is one of the most popular CGs in the state. And it can be very busy depending on the time of year so be sure to get your reservation is as soon as they open up the dates. You can reserve by site and the link below will give you a picture of every campsite to help you make your decision. These were taken by a forum member several years ago, but it looks the same.
Most folks seem to like the 100 section because there is more privacy between sites due to the vegetation. One of our favorites is 127.
Topsail Site pics
I try to keep a journal of our travels and usually take pics of every CG we visit. Our Florida CG stays. Just FYI - you might find some ideas on where to stay for future trips to Florida.
Good luck and remember to make your reservation as soon as you can.

RE: Reserve america:

They just recently raised the Topsail rates - the first increase in many years. Previously it was $38 + tax. It use to be a private CG thus the reason it has much more than the other State Parks. Considering what they offer, the beautiful facilities and a drop dead gorgeous beach 1/2 mile away we feel it is one of the best deals in the state.

RE: Check my Florida itinerary, please.

If you like to wander through old homes and see some beautiful gardens/grounds this is really a great tour. In Miami - overlooks Biscayne Bay.
Vizcaya Museum
CGs near Sanibel Island - Can't get much closer as it is right on the island. Periwinkle Park. Popular place so if you decide to try it be sure to check for availability. I don't believe they take credit cards so you might want to check that and be aware they do not allow dogs.
We spend a lot of time @ Ortona South COE outside LaBelle, FL. It's about 35 miles east of Fort Myers. Might be too remote for you, but something to consider if you can't find anything else to your liking. You can read more info on it and see some pics in this link. Our Florida CG visits

Another vote for Old Federal. Loved it there. Took a day trip up to Dahlonega one Sunday afternoon. Neat town - lots of unqiue shops. Really enjoyed it.

RE: Went to the Tiffin factory

Where did that oster get the information that Tiffin has orders for 500 units?? Seems very high in this market. We went through the Tiffin factory and were not impessed. They have the best tour guide in the business and an all around great guy.. Quality control is no better than other factories we have toured. I saw workers doing all kinds of things that were incorrect and sloppy. But there is no question that Tiffin will make it right after the fact. I doubt Tiffin's come off the line with less defects than any other product. One should never use a factory tour as the deciding factor in a MH purchase. Go to a dealer and examine the product carefully. Tours are a selling tool.

RE: Florida: better in April or May?

The heat and humidity and possibly afternoon storms can start as early as May thus the reason CG availability is better. Generally the humidity gets worse the further South you intend to go.
We have made reservations @ Curry Hammock in May a couple years in a row and ended up canceling because of storms and humidity. No biggie for us since we live so close, but I'd hate to travel from out of state and encounter that disappointment.
May is also the time of the love bugs. They'll be plastered all over your windows. They are not as bad early in the a.m. or late p.m. i.e., before 9 - after 5 p.m. Just be prepared to cleanup at the end of each day.
If you can get in some place in April probably better - though even then the weather can be unpredictable. Snowbirds begin moving North around that time so you could get lucky. The FL weather this winter has been all over the place. Cold snaps, storms (already we've had several), heavy rains.

RE: Went to the Tiffin factory

Isn't it amazing how people's attitude about Tiffin has changed in the last year? A year ago Tiffin was a small family owned bussiness in a hick town and would be the first to go under. Now everytime you see buying a new MH mentioned it's a Tiffin.
Really? A year ago. Seems like Tiffin has been going strong for at least the last 4 years.
They have been -- I think he is probably talking about speculation on which manufacturers would survive the downturn.

RE: Went to the Tiffin factory

Thank you for the post. I have never been to a factory before. So what is the difference between the Tiffin factory making the Zephyr and the Newmar factory making the King Aire, what differences did you see in manufacturing methods?
With warm regards, James
Tiffin does not have anything close to the price point of a King Aire -- which is 700k+ I believe. Was last time we saw one @ the 2009 Tampa RV show.

We do not use Walmart for overnight, but if we ever did there is no way we would ever leave our MH unattended for hours on end.

RE: CW Unwilling to Honor Advertised Price

It absolutely is Camping World's responsibility to effectively manage the use of their Corporate Logo and website url info in advertisements of the products they sell or service.
If the product was not available or being offered at every store a disclaimer is added at the bottom of the ad. No disclaimer so this ad is valid and with a little more insistence on your part you should have been able to get it from a CW store that had it. But I understand why you pursued an alternative option.
If the author of this ad failed to follow the CW advertising guidelines then CW should be all over them - pronto. Most corporations have staff dedicated to ensure the proper use of their logos, etc. This ad has the appearance of a CW official publication. If it is not, then CW best get on the stick and put the proper guidelines in place.

RE: Florida Trip in April

Have you verified you can get into Larry & Penny? Usually that place is booked solid that time of year. Broward County has a couple of CGs - they are about 30-35 miles North of Larry & Penny. You can read about them and see a few pics in my Florida CG folder below. Just page down to the cities to see them (Markham Park - in Sunrise and C.B. Smith in Pembroke Pines).

Re: west coast. I cannot give you tips on cheaper place near Naples, but if you are interested in a nice place about 30-35 miles east of Fort Myers try Ortona South COE. Info on it is also listed in the link above - by the city of LaBelle, FL. Another COE closer to Fort Myers is W.P. Franklin. We have not stayed there, but it is similar to Ortona - sites on the waterway, etc.

RE: Banjo Creek- CLOSED

I saw it, but what choice do we or did we have? I went thru a simular thing with another park and the AG of NC was of no help. While I admire Gary's will to fight ,but you should know when you have no chance to win. I can't afford to throw any more money down that rat hole.
Ed
Yes I agree. Perhaps I missed a posting -- I was referring to some earlier threads where he was trying to get others to realize this was not working.
Anyway -- I would agree no way would I have given that CG one more red dime after they began changing ownership/rules in the middle of the game. Some of these threads where they told members to not to talk about your own contract. I could hardly believe what I was reading.. are you kidding me. What kind of businesses talk like that? Seriously? And who puts up with it?
Oh well. Again good luck guys -- with whatever you do.

RE: Banjo Creek- CLOSED

Remember folks lifetime memberships means the product lifetime - not yours.
Lucy
Well they sold me mine for MY lifetime and for my children's lifetime too after mine has ended.
Yankeecamper, I am willing to do this but when sort of the same type
thing happenned about our dues, not many would do this and the NC AG's office was no help at all.
But you must ask yourself what is likely to change first and how often -- the product or your life? Products are always changing/improving - they must to stay competitive and if they don't they will not out live you, let alone your kids. That's my point.
Lucy
Lucy and with all the respect(Lucy was my mom's name ) you deserve
unless you have a copy the contract you have no idea what it says or means,
Ed
Yep -- I definitely understand. I'm not talking letter of the law - I'm talking what makes sense. Doesn't matter what it says - lifetime memberships are not practical.
The big issue is BC's track record which has been horrendous based on what I read in this thread and others from the past. Right or wrong I came to the conclusion that Gary might have been the only one who realized there was a problem. The silence to some of past posts was deafeaning. I felt for him. He seemed to be trying to get some folks to unite for a long time.
So recover what you can - I am rooting for you, but my point about lifetime memberships remains the same. It is not anything more than a marketing concept and do not be fooled that it can or will deliver.
Good luck.

RE: Planning East Coast Trip, need advice!

Sounds like a great time. We are headed up to D.C. for the first time in May.
I'm assuming you have been to Asheville/eastern NC and traveled the Blue Ridge Parkway before - if so perhaps that is why you are going around or just passing thru NC? If not and you are open to a change I would come back down via I-81 VA and into NC and drive on the parkway at least some of the way.
SC -- You seem to be going right by Lake Hartwell in SC -- if you have time consider a stay @ Twin Lakes COE (Corp of Eng) in Anderson, SC - near Clemson, SC. Nice place.
We lived near Raleigh, NC for 6 years so we spent a lot of time in SC, VA and NC. You can read about some of the CGs we enjoyed in this area in the links below - includes info on Twin Lakes CG mentioned above. Just something to consider for future trips, unless your route changes. Click on pics to enlarge. Info also includes links to the CG websites and in some cases inks with pics of CG sites that we took or I found on the internet. For e.g. Lake Hartwell COE offers pics of every campsite and every CG - great for planning.

RE: Look at this motorhome refurb. UNBELIEVABLE!

While I dislike the overuse of pattern and all the "stuff" the workmanship is superb.
Her window treatments do not work because the valances are the wrong scale and the plaid just emphasizes that more. Hard to pull off traditional window treatments in a MH for this reason. BTW - If you are into home sewing and want to do your own treatments in a stick home -- this site sells patterns and gives instructions on how to adjust the scale for your window size. They design treatments for Southern Living Idea homes. Patemeadows. Lots of pictures on the site for ideas.
Shag rugs are coming back --- for those who like a little pizazz. I often see in area rugs in contemporary homes. She likely used that to cover the carpeting.
Love her plaid chairs though -- and the red sofa. Those 3 pieces look very nice.
I think the overall look would have worked better if she had used a plain drapery fabric w/out a valance and covered her dining chairs in a complimentary plain fabric also or on the chairs maybe a tiny plaid that looks like a solid from a distance. She could have added the additional patterns in throw pillows. As it is now there is no place for the eyes to rest.
Surprised she did not replaced the windshield curtain. That's probably next. :B
Obviously the dog poses on demand.
Either way she likes it and that is really all that matters. I admire her ambition and this was fun to look thru - thanks for sharing the link.
