RE: Big Country or Cougar?

You had a Springdale which is also a Keystone product. That gives you first hand knowledge about that make. Not much difference between the Springdale and the Cougar quality wise. If you were satisfied with the Springdale quality you will be satisfied with the Cougar. Now floorplans are a whole other story. If you find a floorplan you are okay with and DW loves go with it!!!

RE: Kelso WA overnight

Regarding Toutle River Rv resort: We spent last summer there "workamping" (they lied and there was no work) It looks great but it is sandwiched between the freeway and railroad tracks that are loud, shake the ground through the whole campground and trains run often all day and night. Oh, did I tell you they are about $45/night and beware of the water. They have well water that is disgusting. Use only bottled water for everything. A one nighter won't do much fixture damage but extended stays lead to staining of sinks and shower pan.
Other than the above I highly recommend it ;>O

RE: First Time to the Valley

He states he is new to the Rio Grande Valley so I assume that is tghe valley.
Wayne, you might check out monthly rates at a park that interests you. It could work out to narrow your dates and make the reservation ahead to get the space and the favorable price. The few days you might be off due to Dr. appts. might still work out to be cheaper than waiting until the last moment.

RE: Where should the water go...

You might want to check under the bathroom and bedroom if you have a sealed and insulated underbelly. If so the water probably leaked through and soaked the insulation. This could be addressed by measuring for the areas underneath to be addressed then exposing the insulation so you can remove it, dry out the plywood flooring and replace the insulation. Leaving the wet insulation is a recipe for mold and mildew. I had this happen with my TT and doing this was a lot easier than trying to get rid of mold later.
Good luck.

RE: Sink Repair / Replacement

You might try drill a small hole at each end of the crack then using superglue or epoxy along the crack. After that you could seal the underside with (darn I forget the name of the adhesive tape that never releases). I did this with a crack in my shower floor 4 years ago. After 4 years of fulltiming it is still not leaking.
I have also replaced the kitchen sink (I didn't like the stock model) with a replacement purchased at Home Depot. The replacement is simple and I replaced the faucet at the same time.

RE: Considering the RV Full Time Lifestyle

We fulltimed for almost 6 years starting at age 50. We kept our house for an exit strategy and rented it out for income. We have had to stop fulltiming due to DW's mother failing. Don't know if or when we'll get back on the road again but we sure do miss it ((( If the two of you are best friends and patient with each other this may be the best choice you can make. It takes a while to adjust but what a life )))

RE: Camp Hatteras OBX

Grammie tell Jeanette, manager, Lei & Howard said hello. John S. we also rode out Hurricane Alex while workamping at Camp Hatteras in 2004. Went to sleep at night with a tropical storm coming. Woke to a rocking & rolling category 2 hurricane. By the time we knew we should be somewhere other than the TT it was too late. Couldn't risk making a run to the clubhouse and getting hit by debris. Pulled in the slide and rode it out. Taught us to hook up and go at the mere hint of severe weather and we have done that more than once since then.
Still, OBX and Camp Hatteras are a wonderful place to go.

RE: Outer Banks of North Carolina

I have a TT, not a motorhome, but I spent a summer at Camp Hatteras. Ocean Waves is right next door. Though I haven't been there in a few years I am confident they weathered the storm easily as they are used to getting knocked around and picking themselves up again. Ocean waves is a very nice park that is comparable to Camp Hatteras except that it costs about half the $$$ and the spaces are a little closer together. Not terrible when you factor in the savings. The trouble with Ocean Waves is it books up fast so make reservations early. If you cannot get in go to Camp Hatteras. You will not be disappointed with your visit to the Outer Banks. What a great place.

RE: Dentists in Mexico

Thanks Jerry. I couldn't find Dr. Soltelo in the Algodones website I checked.
Gemstone, we would be staying in Yuma while we would be getting the work done. Hope the weather is warmer than 2008 when we wintered there.

Dentists in Mexico

We will be in Tempe Az. in January. Will anyone who goes to Mexico from this area for dental work (crowns for implants) fill me in on how to go and where to get work done ? Thanks in advance.

RE: What are you towing with your Dodge Hemi??

My mpg matches Hannibbal except I travel at 55 mph and get 9.5 when not int mountains. In mountains the best I do is 8.5.

RE: What are you towing with your Dodge Hemi??

I have a 2004 2500 5.7 Hemi and tow a 8500# TT. No problem in any situations. Have been fulltiming since 2004 and love this set up. I have pulled up and down and over mountains all over the country and always a piece of cake.

RE: TT/layout/model preferences/advise requested

We have a 30' Keystone Cougar TT and chose it for many of the points you raised. I also prefer to have the bed of my truck available and for 6 years of fulltiming that has worked well. We have the rear living area and love the ability to back into a spot and have the view out the rear picture window. We have one 16'x3' slide in the living area and love the expanded space. The bedroom is tight but we only sleep there so... You could get a bedroom slide if you need more bedroom space. We still have unused storage space so the extra storage available w/a fifth wheel doesn't matter in our case.
Go look around as much as you can and keep notes, mental or written, of likes and dislikes and at some point you will find exactly what you like.

RE: Monument Valley

We were there earlier this year and you can see we have the same trucks. Everything was fine. I didn't even offload the motorcycle from the truck bed. No problems. Talking about this makes me want to be back there again.

RE: Anyone recommend Las Vegas RV Service?

We were in a pinch a few years back and the people at Findlay, across from Boulder Station, took great care of us. This was on a Saturday when no one else would even answer the phone. What I thought was a serious problem turned out to be minor to them and they sent me on my way all fixed and with most of my $$$ still in MY pocket.

RE: sharpen knifes

We are former restaurant workers, so we learned from the cooks on the line how to sharpen knives on a stone. A sharpening stone is small enough to fit in a drawer in the RV, although you should be using it only once or twice a year.
Otherwise, we look for a local who is a professional sharpener. Often they also sharpen lawn mowers!

RE: Mexican Tracfone?

I recommend skype also. Used it last winter and it was great and cheap. We were able to find wifi signal when we needed to make calls with little trouble. We were in Baja for a month then at Puerto Penasco.

Thanks Barb for the more thorough explanation. In our case we kept our stick & brick and have the homeowners coverage on that. So our situation is a little different.

RE: Insurance

If you are keeping Mass. as your legal residence then there should be no problem. Contact your agent and explain your continued resident status and that should take care of it. Sometimes an agent doesn't understand the fulltiming concept and takes the easy interpretation route. I had to have my agent consult with the State Farm home office to get straightened out before we started fulltiming. Not many fulltime RVers from my state to give an agent any interpretive experience.
