RE: Which dinghy tow vehicle is suggested?

I tow a 2013 Subaru Outback. I just have to put the shifter into neutral, and off I can go. I have the Blue Ox tow bar and the invisible base plate and the Blue Ox Patriot braking system. the advantage of the Outback is that it is not very heavy, only 3400 lb, but it is a very roomy vehicle with a ground clearance higher than most SUV's (about 8"), and it has the famous Subaru AWD system that can get you to places where a lot of SUV's can't go!

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Currently snowing like crazy. 8" are supposed to come down over night. Put the snow plow back onto the tractor to be able to keep a path to the motorhome open.

RE: My horn is wimpy! Advice on something different?

I put an air horn on my '74 VW back when. Got tired of people pulling out in front of me. WORKED! How did that work? Once the person was in front of you, they were already there and you had to hit the brakes. Is an air horn something like beating on you chest like Tarzan used to do, to show how macho you are? What exactly is an air horn good for? when I read the OP, it's main purpose seems to be to wake up the people at the camp ground! Maybe if Mr Hudsoner could explain why a horn is required by law, he would be able to answer his own question. I did not know that air horns are required on cars? I still don't understand how that air horn on your VW could keep others from pulling out in front of you!

RE: What would you do?

A few years ago I was faced with a similar decision. My wife and I sat back and we thought over what we wanted to do with a motorhome. We decided we want a rather short unit and NO slides after reading here about all the problems slides can and will cause (cutting large holes in flexible side walls seems not to be the best engineering decision to start with). We ended up with a six year old, 31' long gasser that we paid cash for. I did some modifications (5 Star tuning, steer safe Cheap handling fix, rear sway bar, new shocks, etc.) and ended up with a motorhome that has a decent drive and outruns every diesel pusher I know off (also in the rockies). We pull a Subaru Outback behind it and get a gas mileage between 8 and 10 miles. Considering the cost of diesel fuel, no diesel pusher can beat that. We are driving now a motorhome that is paid for (and resale is not of any interest, because we want to use this one as long as we like this way of traveling). Our maintenance cost are very low, and with 67 k miles on the clock, this thing has not cost us anything except routine maintenance. We do not have to wonder whether we can make the next payment or whether the next maintenance will break the bank, we just hop into it and go wherever we want to go while passing all the diesel pushers that try to climb the mountains with their poor HP to weight ratings!

RE: Replace 60 lb propane tank with removable 20 lb tanks

Any LP gas company can fill your tank I can show you at least two around here that can't! Their hoses are to short because they do the portable tank filling inside the propane shed.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Look longingly at the MH garage every time I snow blow another layer of snow off the driveway. Will winter every end?? No, it will not. Got five inches of the white stuff last night, and it is snowing again. Should be another several inches, and there is more to come on Sunday. It comes just in time, because the old snow banks were almost gone. fresh snow was very much required to get that wintery look back! This is absolutely the longest winter I can remember, it stated late October and is still going strong! On the positive side, we still don't have mosquitoes, yet!

RE: New report on the price of perscription drugs.

And what better place to receive correct information than from the source of the problem. The pharmaceutical companies run, rule and price our drugs out of reach. I would have expected no less from someone that works for them. Try READING all the info available on the FDA site regarding the recalls and what percent of overseas drugs are actually tested. Amazes me that people dig their heals in and cover their ears to important information that is shared.....to defend the powers that be that want to keep us all UN-informed. I have never worked for the pharmaceutical industry, but as a medical researcher, I had to deal a lot with the FDA. Your statements show clearly that you have no idea how the FDA operates and controls medical manufacturing sites. It seems to me that you are a victim of internet hoaxes and Domesday sites!

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Look at it sitting deep in a snow bank. Still close to 2 feet of snow around the poor thing!

RE: Tow Bars: Roadmaster vs Blue Ox vs Demco vs NSA Ready Brake

I have the Blue Ox tow bar, base plate and the Patriot braking system. I am happy with my setup! I like the Patriot system because I can switch it back and forth between the two cars that I tow.

RE: Side hall-enclosed bathroom vs. Center hall bath

We have a center bathroom, and I don't really like it much. Friends of ours have a side bathroom, and they don't like theirs and would love a center bathroom (because it is so much roomier). I think you have to weight the pros and cons and make a decision that suits you.

RE: Rock guards--Class A/Gas--what do you use?

My motorhome has rubber mud flaps behind each axle, and has a hula skirt type protector at the rear. So far, I have not found any debris on my car. But this car has a rather high ground clearance (almost 9 inches) and the motorhome is rather low. This combination may also account for the clean toad. I might cover the front of my toad with PlastiDip if I would drive long distances on bad roads (like going to Alaska).

RE: plasti dip trailer

Would this plasti dip be a good protection for the front end of a toad?

RE: Valve stem question

Also don't like the fact that in a way, you're kind of making two tires back into one when you add those things. I know the crossfire is not supposed to allow it to happen, but I have read where in some circumstances, if one tire loses a lot of air suddenly (like in a blowout), the crossfire will allow air to cross over, causing the other tire to go flat as well. Pretty much eliminates one of the big advantages of having duals, if a blowout with one can take the other one with it. Still a cool idea, though. Would that situation show up if one would have a pressure monitor attached to the crossfire? If yes, would it show up fast enough that one could react in time?

RE: Valve stem question

I have the same problems with my rear tires and are contemplating to install the Cross Fire system (http://tinyurl.com/c2fe5k3). Has anybody any experience with it and can report on it?

RE: What would you buy?

Thank you for all the info. We made a decision and bought a Samsung Galaxitab 2, 10.1". it is on sale currently and the Consumer report rating puts it in the top ranking of the tablets. It seems to have all the features my wife would like.

What would you buy?

The Nook touch of my wife is slowly going down the tube (battery has difficulties to hold charge, and Barns & Noble stopped making/supplying new batteries. She likes the Nook a lot, specifically the quality of the eInk display, and because of its little weight that makes it easy to read with it in bed. Now comes the question, what shall we buy to replace it? She has a brand new laptop, and I have a netbook and a Vzio tablet. Should we buy another tablet or another e-reader? TigerDirect has the Samsung Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" on sale for $329.99, or would it be better to buy the Kindle HD for $199? What would you buy?

RE: RV port/garage

I am planning to build a motorhome port this summer. My unit is 31 feet long, about 12 feet high and 81/4 feet wide. I plan to build the port to be 35 feet long (can't go longer unless I cut down fruit trees), 10 feet wide and about 16 feet high. This would allow me to work on the roof of the MH while it is under cover. I plan to cover the sides down about 4 feet and the front and rear end down to about 13 feet. In the winter I will hang tarp down to fully enclose the port to keep snow out of it.

RE: GPS app that can accept pre-made routings

I have the free CoPilot. It is a piece of junk. I did a route from my house and it has me turning one block at a time. Right turn, left turn, right turn etc. On an other one, it routed me away from the major highway to a secondary street in the city with a lot of stop signs. I can't see anyway to change the route. Any suggestions? Yes, buy the premium version. I had the free one and did not like it. Now I have the premium and it is very good!

RE: Cooper Roadmaster tires?

We need 6 new 245/70R19.5 for this coming season, the GY G670's we have now have a BOD of '01, I know, I know, but we just got our rig last season! I have seen prices from $350 - $650 for the GY! $350 being a local tire guy I use and CW at $650!! (they can be such a rip off!!) I can get the Cooper Roadmaster RM170's for $275. has anyone had the Roadmasters? How are they? It's another $75 a tire for the GY and I know I'll really be paying for the name but $450, is $450! I can get a surge protector and more with the extra $450! What do you think? I have these tires on my unit for the last 10 k miles and have no problem with them. I don't know in what areas other tires would be better. it is a motorhome and not a sports car!
