RE: Brand of CB you use and why

I looked at hand held units when I drove truck, and they were all pretty much worthless alone, and not much better with an antenna. I always used Cobra cb's, as they are good units overall- unless you want to upgrade and spend (a lot) more $$.

RE: How to refill fresh water tank

Desert captain; You simplified my trial methods of altering the spout on those blue water jugs (which didn't work)- thanks for the post of that!!

RE: Propane Problem

Gas regulators go bad- it could be that. Troubleshooting it yourself will depend on how comfortable you are working on a propane system... Otherwise take it to a pro.

RE: Discontinued Part

Please give me a chance to look into this. We will insure that you are taken care of properly. 18 minutes from your original post? Dang!! I'm impressed!!

RE: Need to repair or replace my 24 year old roof AC

If you can get it fixed for $300, and are fairly confident that it will stay working, I would go that way. There is no way you will recover much of the cost of a new one in the sale of the motorhome. I wouldn't transfer the new a/c between rv's- you still have to plug the hole in the one you are getting rid of. Unless you keep the old one, and can do it yourself. If you are camping at CG's where you don't pay for electric, I would not care about the efficiency of the unit. Even if you are paying, it would take a long time for payback of a new unit. If you are running on a generator, better efficiency obviously helps. There isn't that much capacity difference between a 15k and 13.5k unit. Go bigger- You can always turn the fan to "low" on a low demand day, but you can't get more out of an undersized unit if/when you need it. This is all my personal opinion, but I hope it helps. Good luck!

RE: Jeepers! -13 today!

Run the vehicle until it is warm, and aim the side vents at the door. Do this while not going down the road. I watched the line at the carwashes yesterday wondering how that was going to work out for those people. ;)

RE: How to combat sway on a PUP w/tandem axle and surge brakes?

I'll just throw out an idea that came to mind. Convert the unit to electric brakes. If the axles have mounting plates behind the wheels, I wouldn't think it would be too hard to do. I'm not sure what the cost difference of converting (if you can do it yourself) to electric brakes vs. a weight distribution hitch would be. Hopefully with proper loading you can get by without anything extra. Good luck!!

RE: Anyone know how much wind a pop up will take.

We camped through 50-55 mph winds in SD one night- not much/any sleep, but it did not seem to push the limits of the camper. A couple of days being packed away wet shouldn't hurt anything if the temps are cool (done that...). If it is warm though, I would get it back up asap. Sounds like you made it through ok.

RE: Man---it's Cold

Camped last weekend with lows in the upper 20's and highs in the low 40's. Not winterized- had water through the weekend. Was a perfect fall camping weekend! Impressive camping maps, by the way!!

RE: This weekend camping

We went to Mille Lacs Kathio State Park . Only one pic, and it is kinda boring, so I'm not going to go thru the trouble of posting. We probably would have gone to Jay Cooke, but with the bridge being washed out, it eliminates most of the hiking trail access. The coldest we have camped in (so far) is a low of 10 degrees. Chilly in the bunkends, but not bad. We typically go camping for my birthday in mid-February. Two years ago we camped in a snowstorm- that did not live up to the hype of what it was supposed to be. We still had 10" of snow, and it was a pain to clean off of the bunk ends. It bent a pole before said cleaning, although I straightened the pole out. Had a blast being the only ones in the CG. We are hoping to go camping the weekend after Thanksgiving. No idea where so far...

This weekend camping

Had to share our wonderful weekend of camping, as there isn't much posting about camping this time of year in here. We got out of town late Friday night, and pulled into one of our favorite state park campgrounds at 12:15 am Saturday wanting to wake up in the CG. Went to bed about 2 am. Woke up at about 11 am to wonderful wife making breakfast for everyone. Saturday was a lazy day with the kids doing homework, me falling asleep at every turn (work has worn me out lately, with 70-80 hour weeks), and everyone relaxing away from home. Sunday started out the same as Saturday, only quite a bit earlier (figured out later that "daylight savings time" had happened mid afternoon). Hiked about 6 miles of moderate terain, stopped for lunch, (short nap after), then more hiking. A campfire at dusk with dinner, then packed up for home. Lows in the upper 20's and highs in the low 40's made for perfect fall camping. There was only one other camper in the CG- we think that they had a "horror movie" weekend. Looking forward to next trip, whether the weekend after Thanksgiving, or my birthday weekend in February (hope for more in between though!) Happy camping!!

RE: Emergency Road Service

Never have. That said.. I can fix most issues that pop up (no pun intended) on my own.

RE: Reservations: what do you tell the campground?

We have a pup that is about 24' plus a side slide. I just tell them we have a big pup, the length, and that we have a side slide. It has worked out well so far. We were a little tight in a spot once, but honestly everyone else was too- no matter what unit they had.

RE: Jeep making campers?

Great. Now I want a Jeep AND an off-road PUP. First place to be used? Moab. Let me go check my powerball ticket... :B

RE: A/C Vibration issue

The first two responses nailed it. Something is causing the fan to be off balance.

RE: Smelly hotwater...

A little bit of bleach in your FW holding tank (1/4 to 1/2 cup?), then fill the tank with fresh water. Run it through all "water outlets", making sure you get the water heater. Let sit. Then flush with fresh water. It should be in your owners manual with exact instructions on bleach amounts, etc... You are supposed to sanitize your system yearly, but I'll be the first to admit quilt of not always doing it yearly.
