RE: EazLift pictures anyone?
Those bars look like my Reese Dual Cam bars. I don't need a sway control with my set up. You need the hitch part. You have the part on the trailer that the chains hook onto.
RE: Sure is quiet here today
Glad all went well at the vet. Just don't let her overdo it when she gets home - no jumping up on furniture or even climbing stairs. We kept a former dog on a leash or in a crate for a week to keep her quiet - quite a challenge for a boxer!
RE: Gas Mileage
9.4-10.5 mpg with the rig in my sig., depending on grade and cross/head winds. I drive around 65 mph. I have gotten 11 mpg going 60 mph in FL - the perfect combination, but so hard to do!
RE: reduced fat in dog food
The exercise idea is the key. Even if you cut back on the food, w/out exercise, the body goes into storage mode and the metabolism shuts down. Also, cut out the milkbones, or at least cut down to one a day, divided into two pieces. They are the "junkfood" of the dog world. I would also just feed less of a quality kibble than a diet dogfood, which is mainly filler. Natural Balance makes a lamb kibble for allergy prone dogs, which is a good one. It's at Petco in my area.
It can be done, but it's hard. I once had a lab that seemingly lived on air! We feed him little and took him on long daily walks, but weight was always a struggle for him. You can only do the best you can. Good luck!
RE: Petco Adoptions
Many people don't realize that the rescues often have to pay quite a bit to fix up the dogs before they're adoptable. Many require medical attention, as well as spaying/neutering, which is expensive.
We recently adopted a poodle puppy, that we've named Fonzie, from a rescue at Petsmart. I fell in love immediately, but left him there when I found out the adoption fee ($400!). He was there again a week later, then again the next week. I asked why he was still there b/c he's so adorable. They said that it was his fee, which is understandable. I talked some more with the rescue lady and found out that she had to nurse him through a violent case of Parvo, which nearly killed him and cost a lot to treat. The fee also included a neuter certificate, worming, shots, etc.
After the 3rd week of looking at this adorable puppy, I broke down, paid the ridulous fee, and took him home. Both my husband and I are in love with this dog, and we're not sorry in the least that we got him!
When you get a dog from the pound, yes they're much less expensive, but you have to pay all of the vet fees yourself (shots, worming, spay/neuter, possible heartworm treatment -very expensive, btw, etc.). I've ended up paying more for a pound puppy in the past b/c of vet bills I ended up having to pay, than I have for Fonzie.
Just my $0.02....

RE: FrontlinePlus...HELP
If the pet had fleas, so does your home. You need to set off some flea bombs in the home, now that you're treating the pet. It won't do any good to treat the pet, if the home still has the fleas he's brought in with him in the past.
We've found that any of the flea remedies, Advantage, Revolution, or Frontline, work equally well for us, as long as we keep our home free of the little pests, also.
Be careful setting off flea bombs, especially if you have gas heat, water heater, etc. I've heard horror stories about houses literally exploding when the flea bombs were set off.
Also, vacuum daily for a week or more (any cloth surface - furniture, carpets, etc.), throwing th bag away each time (if using a bagged vacuum) so that the flea eggs inside don't hatch and reinfest your house. I'm not sure what you can do if you have a bagless vacuum.
RE: Dog sweater question?
My woos of a boxer wears a coat in the house during the winter. He shivers if it's below 70 degrees! We keep our house at 68 degrees during the winter, so he's always cold - lol. His coat is attached at the chest and under the stomach with velcro, so I don't worry about him catching on anything - it would break loose in an emergency.
RE: Meet Fonzie!
Fonzie doesn't have any trust issues - he loves EVERYONE! He finally rang the bells to go outside today for the first time when my husband was home - yay!. I missed it, of course. Oh well... Don't worry, we're not going to give up on him. :)
RE: Meet Fonzie!
Thanks for all of your kind words! He's a cute puppy, but housetraining is a work in progress! I think the fact that he was in a puppy mill will make it take much longer. Fonzie doesn't mind urinating on his own bed in his crate, which drives me CRAZY! I will probably take his bed out of the crate for awhile.
RE: What's wrong with those lists of "dangerous foods"
Chipper, our lab, lives to eat our apple cores, seeds and all! I noticed that apple cores are on "the list". It's never caused him any problems. Of course, he has a cast iron stomach, as do most labs.
RE: Meet Fonzie!
Fonzie went camping with us weekend before last and did great! He's good in the truck (nice surprise!) and was good in the collapsible nylon crate we had in the camper for night time. He had a ball and didn't get stressed out at all.
RE: Meet Fonzie!
Well, after joining a poodle forum, I found out that Fonzie is a cream, not an apricot. It makes sense. He went to the groomer this past Saturday and got a "big boy" haircut.

RE: Meet Fonzie!
Our boxer is small fry for Fonzie, I found out. Yesterday I went over to the foster mom's house for Fonzie to get his last puppy shot, and saw the dog he used to play with - a Cain Corso (sp?). That was fun to watch! That dog is also only a puppy and is already over 100 pounds! He's expected to gain another 50 before he's grown - WOW!!
RE: Meet Fonzie!
No offense taken! We named him Fonzie b/c his top knot was really long and wild when we first got him. His personality is exuberant like "The Fonz", too. My daughter suggested the name, and it seems to fit him. He's getting professionally groomed and clipped Saturday (just his face, feet, base of his tail, and sanitary areas), and I can't wait to see his new look!
Meet Fonzie!
Two weeks ago, we adopted an appoximately 5 1/2 month old toy (but may grow to be a small mini) light apricot poodle, we named Fonzie. We adopted him at Petsmart from a rescue group who took him in. A big puppy mill in Columbus, GA got busted, and Fonzie was one of the puppies rescued. He's a bundle of energy, and so much fun! Our grouchy old man lab, Chipper, isn't thrilled, so Fonzie has quickly learned to stay out of his way. Our boxer, Duke, is happy, because he now has a playmate, albeit mismatched in size! They have a ball running around the yard!
