RE: alpine coaches

Wild One, Alpine are very good coaches and they were made in Yakima, Washington State and were billed as the best steering Class A RV. One of the Campgrounds that I stay at near Yakima had a show and tell on Alpines Coaches when they were still in business. Western RV (Alpine) factory Reps and Sales people would invite all Alpine owners to come out and share experiences with an open house about there Alpine Coaches to prospective buyers. They would do this once a year at this Campground, while I was there, and Alpine would sell about 6 to 12 Coaches that weekend. The following week Western RV would bring out there Alpenlite 5th Wheel Coaches and do the same thing. IMHO, When I'm ready to buy a DP Alpine, Travel Supreme, Country Coach and Winnebago would be on my short list. Good Luck, Rooster

RE: Wrecked RV

Thanks for all the advise. To answer some of the questions, yes it is my first post. I just bought my rv in November and it was wrecked in January. I have been prowling through the rv blogs but never got the urge to join in. As for the slamming Camping World, this really did happen and it is a 2006 Fleetwood Expedition, 38 foot, quad slide in mint condition with 13,000 miles on the Cat diesel engine. CW told me 6 months because they need to ship it to Freightliner to replace one of the frame rails. I have secured a lawyer and will be moving forward with him. My insurance has no diminished value or loss of use riders so all they would have done is fix it as well. CW estimated $45,000 in repairs. You seem like a great bunch of people, and that's why we decided to get into RVing. I'll keep you posted. Diminished value has nothing to do with your own insurance policy! When my Toyota was rear ended I had no diminished value on my insurance policy! My brother in law who is a new car salesman informed me about diminished value! Later on down the road when I want to trade my car in I will get diminished value because, my car was wrecked! I looked up on the internet about business that do diminished value. I had my car appraised with the new diminished value and took it to the other insurance company they didn't like the diminished value price so we sat down a negotiated a price that I was happy with. You have diminished value owed to you from CW, it's up to you to go about obtaining it. Good Luck, Rooster

RE: Ford vs Workhorse as far as Ride?

I've owned both and the ride is about the same to me. I chose the Workhorse the second time around because of the motor! I hope you have good luck with whatever you chose!

RE: Wrecked RV

Ask the admin/mod to MOVE your post over to the Camping World Service Forum. Camping World administrators are on that forum to personally address your problems. That's where you should have posted your complaint. http://forums.woodalls.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/97 IMHO, Let CW handle this is like letting the fox guard the chicken coop. 1.) Seek the advice of a attorney who specialized in auto accidents (to see if he can help you), 2.) Go to a RV Dealer (not CW) and have them do a diminished value assessment (The VIN of your RV has been reported to the DMV so your RV will show on car fax that it's been in a accident) when you go to sale or trade your coach in later down the line you will get less for it. Good Luck, Rooster

RE: Tow bars

Tom and Barb, sorry to hear about your loss! The first thing I thought of was drug addicts they will steal anything to support there habit. It's clear to me (IMHO) someone had a set of master keys. I have a Roadmaster tow bar that I leave attached to the car always and it has double padlocks on each side of the bar. This may sound odd but, I leave my tow bar attached to the front of the toad for extra front end protection. So far I've hit one car in a parking lot, and have had two cars back into me and no damage to my car or the tow bar. I'm in my 14th year with the tow bar. That's a shame that you might have to change locks or risk more stuff getting ripped off from you!

RE: Tire replacement on Class A Goodyear or Michelin

I'm buying 6 new Michelins next month for my RV! I joined the FMCA ($50.00) and I now qualify for the Michelin Advantage Tire Program. I like high quality tires and saving money!

RE: Looking at a Winnebago Adventurer. Any known issues?

I don't know anything about Thor! I own a Winnebago Adventurer 35-U, I bought it new in 2003 and have had very little troubles with it. I was thinking about moving up to a DP, but I'm fearful? Why sale or trade in an RV that I've have had extremely good luck with. My plan is to keep it and hopefully it will run until I don't want to RV anymore.

RE: HWH Leving Jacks

When communicating with HWH the service mgr. at CW, told me to use the internet and not the phone if you have to order parts!

RE: Travel to Seattle, Washington and Vancover, Canada

From Seattle, the best crossing point is at Sumas. We breezed through with minimal traffic waits. The majority of folks don't have problems. You will if you look suspicious. :) As other said, definitely no firearms, have your passports and pet documents. Also, no self-defense sprays and best to buy bear spray, if needed, once you're in Canada - depending where you're going. Normally, it's not needed. At the crossing, take off your sunglasses and just give short yes/no answers to questions asked. Don't try to ramble on and explain stuff. Be polite, for sure. If you're asked to pull over for an inspection, sometimes this is just done randomly so don't take it personally and don't get in the way and offer any assistance. Google 'Canada border crossings' for many good sites for food information - and what you can and cannot bring changes all the time so be up-to-date. For changing currency, you'll get the best rate if, once you cross, stop at a bank and do your exchange. If you plan to stay in Provincial campgrounds, many will require cash in a drop box, as will laundries so get lots of loonies and toonies! Before you cross back over to the lower 48 spend your excess Canadian coins in some way - restaurant, fuel, etc. because we couldn't find anyplace that would exchange them for us. We just donated them to Glacier Nat'l Park's donation box. When you grocery shop the only way to get a shopping cart is to put a Canadian coin in a slot. You'll get it back when you return it - a very good system for runaway carts. Make a list of your conversions needed - fuel, speed limits, heights - you'll use them. Basically, you'll do just fine. It's an easy country to travel in and all folks are very helpful. As someone recommended, go over to the Canada/Alaska forum and you find lots more information. Have a great trip! Sumas WA., I should have mentioned it to you also it's the biggest speed trap in Washington State so beware when your entering any speed zone!

RE: Travel to Seattle, Washington and Vancover, Canada

Has anyone taken their Class A into Canada. Advice, recommendations, First trip. Need lots of information. I crossed the Canadian Border several years ago. The four main things that they were concerned with me at the border was 1.) Firearms, 2.) Current Shot Records on my pets, 3.) If anyone in my RV had a prior Felony or DUI, 4.) Passport, Drivers License or Enhanced Drivers License, Vehicle Insurance. They also asked questions about where I was going and why I was going there! You cannot cross the border with firearms, prior felony or a prior Drunk Driving regardless of how long the length was, and not having all the documented paperwork that I mentioned up to date will deny you entry.

RE: Tire Replacement on Class A Goodyear or Michelin

I'm buying 6 new Michelins for my RV in May, and I'm going to use the FMCA Michelin Advantage plan. Did you know that the Space Shuttles (all of them) used Michelin Tires when they were in service! Good Luck with your new tires. Maybe the reason the "Space Shuttle" is no longer flying. COST TOO MUCH :h I don't understand the negative Michelin Space Shuttle jab? Anything that went on those shuttles were awarded to the LOWEST bidder! Ask anyone that worked for NASA! Michelin actually took a loss selling to NASA, but gained a lot of experience and knowledge for Michelins Research & Development Department on heavy aircraft tires.

RE: Siping tires

... I stand corrected on this statement! On the Michelin XRV Tire Website it says that all Michelin XRV Tires have multi siping which delivers better grip and more even tire wear. In the PNW, ice cold wet, cold wet, luke-warm wet, warm wet, and hot (not really) wet conditions are always the possibility. Good tires for cars was ALWAYS a number one thing for me. Does siping RV tires with that much mass and tire patch make that much of a difference? Then comes in the idea of preference. Would I rather spend that much money to be safer in the rain VS just deciding to not travel while it is raining. I'm with you on tire preference! My XRV's were siped at the Michelin Factory in Spartanburg, S.C. I had no say in it!

RE: Siping tires

Tire dealers here in Washington State sipe tires, it's suppose to help throw water off the tires when driving on the wet freeways around here. I've never bought or had my tires siped! I'm buying a new set of Michelin XRV's for my coach in the next few weeks and they won't be siped. Good Luck with your new tires! Rooster I stand corrected on this statement! RE: diesel motorhome tires

Hey Rooster thanks for the info. My XZE tires have been replaced with XZE2 but still have a load range G for tire size 275/80R22.5 even though they are a wider tire than the old XZE's. A local dealer has quoted me $555.00 each including mounting balancing and new valves so I plan to replace all 6 tires. Safe travels, Happy The G load rating is fine for DP's in the XZE tire. IMHO the XZE2+ is the best tire on the market.

RE: diesel motorhome tires

Motorhome/Bus tires beyond five years old puts everyone's life on the road at risk. Ask the folks who make them. This is absolutely incorrect information. Go to the Michelin and other tire MFG. website and look there is none notta one that is found telling you to replace tires at 5 years. X-2, Michelin's Tire Website says they make there tires to last 10 years that's why they make there tires with soft pliable rubber that provide ultimate quality and toughness! Please post the facts to reinforce your statement!

RE: rv insurance

I shop my policy every 6 months. Have not been able to beat Geico renewals. Shop around. X-2, And, keep in mind that your buying insurance to protect yourself! Our RV was hit in AZ. several years ago and we had full coverage on it! The guy who hit us had no insurance and no assets! If we would have been underinsured like just having liability it would have cost us over $7,500.00 out of or pocket to get or coach back on the road again. And, Geico DID NOT raise our rates after the accident. Good Luck in your search. Rooster

RE: How old?

Don, I just turned 63 three weeks ago! And, I would like to go until it isn't safe for me to drive anymore. Then I have to figure out plan B, when I get to that spot? Probably drive my RV to my favorite spot and store the RV there, then pay to have someone drive it to my RV Site!

RE: New Bridgestone Tires and handling issues

I agree with several other posters they didn't say it this way, but your sidewalls need to be broke in! And it is like breaking in a new pair of boots. Soft rubber tires have more road feel (squirrelly) than hard rubber tires.
