I just got an ad in the mail from Tractor Supply. They have the Champion for $299 with a free $50 gift card (mail-in). From the picture, it looks like the RV 3500 watt model. Steve It is the RV model. Here's an Internet link to it. Note it's "In stores only" and can't be ordered online. Near the bottom of the page is the mail-in Gift Card link.

... I suppose I'm confused on this now... Don't be confused. That article is written with "politician wording", a technique that uses words and phrases to explain other words and phrases without actually addressing the concept behind the original words and phrases. The author doesn't remotely address the actual electrical concepts and reasons described by some as to why the ground and neutral wires bonded (connected together) inside a portable generator being used as a singular power source for an RV may not be a good idea.

The dealer would probably replace the existing sofa with a sofa/bed if you tell 'em that's what it'd take to make a sale. I don't think I'd let that be a deal-breaker, even if I had to pay him a few dollars extra for swapping 'em. I understand what you're saying about service/warranty local dealer issues. However, if you're not the type who has to have the dealer do every little thing that might possibly be (or go) wrong, it might not be an issue after all. Out of the 6 TT's I've owned over the years I've never taken one back to the dealer for anything. Not that there haven't been a few issues, but they haven't been major enough that I couldn't fix them myself. It's gonna have to be pretty major before I go to the dealer, as it's a whole lot less hassle just to fix most the stuff that goes wrong myself. I guess what I'm saying is I personally wouldn't let a "local dealer issue" keep me from buying a TT that I really liked. I also agree with Kanyonkitty about the Holiday Rambler. It'd have to be an unbelievably good deal before I'd buy an almost 3 yr old TT as a "new" one. Good luck in whatever you decide.

Click this link and check out this Bullet. In particular, look long and hard at the bathroom shower pics. I wouldn't even consider buying an RV that didn't have this type of shower. I also think the weight of the Bullet 250RKS is better suited for your TV and the mountains you'll be towing in.

... I think replacing it is the best option. ... so I will change it out... I'd definitely fix it myself if it was mine. If you take it to the dealer, more than likely all the tech'll do is play around with the valve a little, it'll start working again, and they'll call it fixed. And it might be. Sometimes, though, that kind of "fix" is only temporary. Later, if/when it fails again (probably at a very inopportune time) one would most likely say, to heck with it, I'm gonna fix it myself. Makes more sense to go ahead and do it now, get it over with.

I don't know any current users, however, I just read a computer magazine article where they tested it along with some similar programs. They said it fared quite well... it wasn't the best, but it finished in the top 1/3.

Not only is the Rockwood 8315bss a fairly big TT, it is also a front kitchen floorplan; as a result it has a larger amount of tongue weight that you would have to deal with. For that reason alone I wouldn't try to tow it with a 1/2 ton TV.

You don't need to go to the expense of changing to 134A. http://autorefrigerants.com/co00033.htm This is a web site for a product called Enviro-safe - a legal substitue for R-12 which works quite well. Have used it for years in my older vehicle r-12 systems. Hope this helps Regards Rodney Interesting web site with some interesting claims. I can't help but wonder though... if this stuff is as good as they say it is, why isn't it in use everywhere today instead of the R134a? I did note on their FAQ page this statement: Quote: "The United Sates Environmental Agency (EPA) prohibits the mixing of certain types of refrigerant that are not already "pre-approved mixes". Although mechanically there is no risk of incompatibility, there is legislation that prohibits such acts. (Although it will certainly work well as a replacement for either R-12 or 134a, if your car is still an R-12 unit it would first have to be defined as a 134a or other type of non-ozone-depleting unit before you could legally install it)." That seems to be a roadblock there of sorts... interesting stuff, regardless...

... in a RV dealership... and their Barker VIP 3000 was priced at $389. We paid $210 less than that on Ebay, including shipping... ... Support the local dealers they need to make a living to. I agree, and I always support local dealers---EXCEPT when the price they're trying to sell something at is ridiculously higher than what you can get the same item for elsewhere (above is a good example). It's like they're cutting their own throat and don't realize it.

... I expect I will be driving on mountain roads some of the time. Will I need to install a transmission oil cooler? Will I need a weight-distribution hitch? Will I need an anti-sway bar - either friction type or something more elaborate?... I towed a 19' Starcraft for a year with a 2003 3.3L Grand Caravan, and then for another year with a 2005 3.8L Grand Caravan (both had the tow package, which, along with some other things, includes a transmission cooler), so I feel qualified to give the following opinion: Flat land towing will be okay, but you'll quickly be wishing for a lot more power in the mountains. Yes you should definitely install a transmission oil cooler. You shouldn't need a WD hitch as long as you stay at the weight range RV you noted. Yes you should install a friction anti-sway bar. Also, without the tow package your Caravan probably isn't pre-wired with the necessary electrical connections, so that'll be harder getting that all set up correctly. Good luck on whatever you decide.

My guess is that they jet for sea level. The consequence of running a generator, jetted for sea level, at a higher altitude is a rich fuel-air mixture. It won't be optimum, but should not damage the engine. The other way round (as stated in the manufacturer data supplied by MrWizard) is running too lean, which can overheat the engine. Yeah... most likely it's near sea level, 'though I'm not sure it would be AT sea level... I would imagine the overwhelming majority of generators in use are at least a few feet above sea level, and it seems like they'd want to optimize for the majority. I'll take a wild guess and say around 500', give or take a few.

..... at what altitude are these engines jetted for?... Sounds like a good question to ask of your friend (Paul?) at Champion ... he'd either know or could find out, I'd imagine. It would be kinda neat knowing the answer.

Go to the local auto parts store and get a can of CRC MAF Cleaner. Don't use carb or brake cleaner as it can eat the plastic and may damage the IAT sensor that may be part of the MAF. I second this. I would be very careful about even a cotton swab touching the fine wire of a MAF sensor. I third? all of the above.

... Why would a fuel injected, PCM controlled gas truck engine loose power at 4,000 feet compared to sea level? Does your truck engine have a BAP (Barometric Absolute Pressure) sensor?...if so, perhaps it's not working as it should. If no BAP, perhaps the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor is having some issues...

...They were on and off. When it actually happens, the breakaway cable catches and puts the brakes on. Then the trailer moves back forward a bit ... and they come back off... Guess I must be having a "Senior Moment" ... are there breakaway switches that, once the pin is pulled and locks the brakes, they then will allow the brakes to release?

Safety chains were added many years ago to help keep a trailer from becoming a deadly mass of moving metal if it ever became detached from it's TV. As the numbers of innocent people being killed by trailers snapping the safety chains and becoming "free-wheeling" continued to grow, the breakaway cable setup was added. Basically, if/when the safety chains snap, the next thing that should happen is the pin being pulled out of the breakaway switch, thus activating the trailer brakes and hopefully bringing it to a stop before it kills someone. To quote directly from the eTrailer Web Site: ..."Breakaway kits are designed to bring trailers safely to a stop by activating the electric brakes should a trailer disconnect from the tow vehicle during transit. Ideally, the safety chains will prevent a trailer from disconnecting if the coupler comes off the ball. However, if the safety chains fail, the breakaway kit acts as a last line of defense against a runaway trailer...."
