RE: 2010 Montana time to replace tires

I would also look at the BF Goodrich Commercial TA's they have had great reviews and should be a little easier on the cheque book. That's funny you said that I went out and looked at my cargo 2500 van and that's what is on my van. I have 9000 miles on them and they still look new. Thank you I will check into those tires for my Montana

RE: 2010 Montana time to replace tires

I am having a hell of a time trying to find someone in this small butt town who carry's Michelin Tires and everyone closed a noon. I am close to the Colorado state line in Kansas so I called Discount Tire in Colorado Springs and they can get me the Micheline XPS Ribs only in 235/85/16 not 235/80/16 that is on my Montana. So will this 235/85 work? He said it was about 3/4 inch taller tire. He priced them to me at $300.00 each and a $70.00 rebate on the grand total and I pick them up and have someone mount and balance them here.

RE: 2010 Montana time to replace tires

This is the third year on the GY marathons. My brother did not replace his and they came apart then he put the spare on which never touch the ground and it came apart within an hour. I am thinking about going with Geostar 574 14ply. I don't want to replace my rims. Any other good tires that I can compare with? What weight range tire does your placard say to use on your 5er...I don't know the weight range of the GY Marathon and not sure about the Geostar...but several tires have been mentioned, depending on if you need a "E" or a "G" rated tire..."E" rated, I really like the Michelin XPS RIBS and there are several others that some will mention if your 5er requires an E rated tire (wheel needs to be able to handle 80psi)...IF you need a "G" rated tire, the GY G614 is what I've been using for years and the Sailun is getting a lot of praise in the "G" rating. Again, depends on your 5er's GVW, axle weight rating or what the placard on your 5er states "tire recommended".... Tires on it now are E rated with about 3000 miles on them. After seeing the damage on by brothers Montana scares the hell out of me lol. I have not checked the placard. I will have to check it. I just thought I would go with a 14ply because it would do better than a 10ply tire. My GVWR is 14,160. Dry weight is 11,320. I would say you probably have "E" rated tires and 6,000# axles. Though pricey, the Michelin XPS RIBS would be an excellent value. I believe others have puchased Maxxis and I believe Chris has another brand he could recommend, all being good tires. I wouldn't cut corners on price, not worth being down on the side of the road with a tire failure and possibly damage to your 5er... My Coachmen with 3 slides had a GVW of 14,500# and I put RIBS on it and never had an issue.... Your money, your call, but peace of mind is worth the extra bucks to me. I just checked it. GVW is 13,965 and 6000 lbs axles. 235/80/16 Load Range E. I will check some local pricing on the XPS Ribs. I know Michelin tires are very good tires.

RE: Arctic Fox owners beware.

I was looking at buying a Arctic Fox back in 2009 but reading all the leaks and rotting problems I didn't buy one. Fat Fox a member here had problems with his and fixed it. I tried to search it but could not find it but there is a lot of good info and pictures in his thread it was called camper death part one and part two. I used google and found some of it.Sixteen pages. clicky There was another member orourkmw that left his Arctic Fox in the desert because he discovered it was falling apart after he ripped the jacks and more off of it in a wash out. Eight pages. clicky

RE: Which Truck Camper should we buy ???

Take a look at the Eagle Cap 995 or 1050. They both have dry baths and one slide. If I was looking for a camper with a slide this is the manufacturer I would look at. Better construction and better four seasons insulation. Front and rear fiberglass caps like a high end fifth wheel is built. Eagle Cap Campers

RE: looking at the northstar 9.5

You will do fine with some upgrades. I would put on a set of Super Springs and a heavy duty rear sway bar. Super Springs

RE: Current opinion on Atwood electric jacks for heavy campers?

X2 what Dave17352 said I would like to follow your project. I don't know what you plan on using to keep your bare metal frame from rusting. I know you probably have something in your plans but for extra protection you could spray it with five coats of Plastidip rubberized coating after you get done coating the frame with whatever you are planning on using. This would just be for extra protection. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNY9Dx617N8

RE: truck camper construction question

Why weld aluminum framing? They build houses out this aluminum framing without one weld. click
