RE: Being prepared for a disaster

thanks so much for posting the site. What a good idea! One of those things we've "talked about" but never got around to doing. With the wind blowing the way it is in Yuma today, seems like a good time to start.

RE: Man Versus Mice

May I suggest putting out Decon? Vry effective poison and you have the benefit of no smell from the corpse. All you'll find in the future is a ball of dried out fur

RE: Our Speedy took his final walk this morning.

My deepest sympathy. May you hold dear to your heart the good times and memories that Speedy gave you. Only the owner of a fur baby could understand your sorrow.

RE: Head light covers

I used the 3-M headlight restoration kit. First did my PT Cruiser headlights and could actually SEE at night! Used the remainder on the coach lights and could really see the bulbs through the lens. Great kit, easy to use.

RE: Eternabond question

If you're going to do it, do it right. Get a warm day, scrape off as much of the sealant as you possibly can, then apply the Eternabond. Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

RE: Wal-Mart, Salem Oregon

You may want to bookmark RVUNDFRIENDLY.COM. It lists Walmarts that overnight parking is not permitted. Mostly all of them are because of local city ordinances, not the Walmart policy.

RE: Oakland, CA Bay Bridge Closed Indefinitely

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge has been closed indefinitely after a rod installed during last month's emergency repairs snapped, causing a traffic nightmare for the 26,000 motorists who cross the landmark span every day. Engineers on Wednesday will evaluate the damage caused when the rod and metal brace fell into the 73-year-old bridge's westbound lanes during Tuesday evening's rush hour. At least two vehicles — a car and a small truck — either were struck by or ran into the fallen rod, said California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Van Eckhardt, but no injuries were reported. The California Department of Transportation said Tuesday that it will remain closed indefinitely. A spokesman for the Bay Area Rapid Transit District, meanwhile, said extra trains would run during the morning commute. The rod that fell Tuesday was erected last month during an emergency repair job. It was holding in place a saddle-like cap that had been installed over a cracked link discovered over the Labor Day weekend. When the rod apparently snapped at about 5:30 p.m., it brought down with it a steel patch roughly 3 feet long, authorities said. "If you look at the totality of the circumstances — you've got the 5:30 commute, you have a 5,000-pound piece of steel falling out of the sky. We are so fortunate that no one was injured or killed," CHP Sgt. Trent Cross told KTVU-TV. Officers managed to clear the Oakland-bound traffic from the lower deck of the bridge by 8 p.m. but were still clearing cars from the few remaining open lanes of the upper deck an hour later, he said. The bridge was closed last month over the holiday weekend while long-planned earthquake safety upgrades were being made to the bridge. When the crack was discovered, state transportation officials initially feared it would prevent them from reopening the span in time for the start of the work week. But the unexpected work only ended up taking a few extra hours. California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, officials had nothing to say Tuesday about what might have caused the repair job to fail. The department issued a brief statement saying only that "structural engineers and inspectors are onsite to assess the damage and will make a determination as to how long repairs will take. "At this time, the bridge is closed until further notice," the statement said. Abolhassan Astaneh-Asl, a civil engineering professor at the University of California, Berkeley who has spent 20 years studying the Bay Bridge, called the initial crack a "warning sign" of potentially bigger safety issues with the bridge. "The repair they were doing was really a Band-Aid," said Astaneh-Asl, who criticized Caltrans at the time for rushing to reopen the bridge. "The Band-Aid broke, in essence." Astaneh-Asl said the failure of the repair job demonstrates the need for a longer-term solution. The bridge's age and design make it susceptible to collapse, especially if commercial tractor-trailers are allowed to continue using it, he said. "I think Caltrans is putting public relations ahead of public safety," he said.

MOTOSAT QUESTION FOR OWNERS

Always before when I would type in 192.1.168.1.250 the computer would take me to the control screen for search, stow, signal quality, etc. Now the new computer with VISTA takes me to a screen with a whold bunch of choices, as if I were shopping for something. What do I have to do to get my control screen to come up?

RE: DICOR Questions

Just a personal opinion but having used Dicor and Eternabond over the years, I highly recommend Eternabond. Nice clean application and makes a fantastic worry-free seal.

ALLISON TRANSMISSION UPDATE

Thanks to you who replied and steered me in the proper direction. Turns out it WAS reading in kilometers instead of miles. I must have somehow held the rocker switch in too long when changing from trip to mileage and it switched over to km. Whew!! All is good; now reading properly. This was a big deal to me because of our extended warranty gain, thank you ve00ry much. So nice to have such an audience to get advice and answers
