RE: Need Sunglasses /New Australian Caravans

I really wish N.A. RV Manufacturer's would get their heads out of their asses and update their material selections.. I mean really.. When was the last time flower decor was in? 70's?
If a trailer (regular priced) had a decent interior like those pictures, I'd have it instantly..
I have to agree, Ive been looking at your TT's over the last 9 months & man, your manufacturers really are stuck in the 70's with there decor choices, with the exception of 1 or 2.
The only ones I have liked (a little bit), are some of the toyhauler 5er interiors. But even that they usually fVck it up with some flames or something stupid..

RE: Question on Michelin LTX M/S2

Man.. you guys must stay home when the weather gets bad..
My truck (on LTX m&S) would break the tires loose pulling gradually away from a stop light on wet pavement. And by gradually I mean people honking at me. Oh and they only had 10,000kms on them.
Don't even get me started on snow/ice/mud...
Sure.. Dry pavement, they are awesome.. That's where it ends though.

RE: Security Issues and Safes for RVs

My approach has been if it's out of sight it is out of mind. A safe is telling a thief that this has valuable items inside and worth prying out and hauling away. Pull a drawer and the space below it is good for truly important items like travel documents. I like the containers that look like a can of shaving cream for items like keys. I would not want a thief to do $1000 in damage ripping a $200 safe out to get to a few hundred dollars worth of stuff
Yep.. To me a safe screams steal me.. I have insurance for a reason, and have digital copies of all important records.

RE: Home phone question

Our internet comes through the phone line.
Check for compatible handset, good idea!
Thanks.
Doesn't mean you have to home phone to get internet.
Our ( Shaw) dish does not carry internet.
As we are in a small town, broadband is not available.
Local cable sucks.
Therefor, we use Bell internet over our phone line.
Sorry, I worded that weird, you do not need a phone package to have an internet package (over phone lines). As long as the line is in place, you can use it for one or the other, both, neither.

RE: Question on Michelin LTX M/S2

I will probably be the only one with this opinion, but I hate mine. I think these tires are square. 3 of the set I had would not balance and had to be replaced under warranty. I can't wait for them to wear out so I can get something else.
Nope.. I'm in the same boat.. Aside from perfectly dry pavement, these suck. Rain, snow and ice are downright dangerous on these tires.. I can't wait to mile these out.
Mud.. haha.. not so much. gravel is even scary with them.

RE: Tablet for mapping and geocaching

Tablets are great and can be packed with features. The big downside, to work they need a wifi connection since most programs are stored off site. So in most cases that can mean another data plan from your cell carrier. If you plan the trip via what ever program you want, and have a stand alone gps for the truck to enter data into each day and still use the hand help for geocaching that could also work.
Sorry.. you are wrong.. yes you need to make sure you have the correct maps for the Area you are in (that is no different than a computer), but you do not NEED WIFI to use a tablet, or most programs on a tablet.
OP, I'd strongly recommend a microsoft surface, but any tablet will work for you. It's just a matter of finding a program that you like.
I'd recommend find a geocaching forum and asking the same question.

RE: Jasper park all booked up in one minute?

You think Alberta's system is bad, try using Sask's system. All NP open reservations for the whole season on ONE day. Needless to say, there's tricks with that system too. Like using the mobile website.

RE: Jasper park all booked up in one minute?

So does that mean that if a caller is looking at a number of sites and then books one the others are locked for the 15 minutes.
NO, only once you have SELECTED a site, which means they have given you 15 minutes to complete the "check-out" on that site.

RE: Double trailer vs 2 vehicles

I'd go with option #2.
Option 1 with double bumper pull, you would be limiting the states you can visit, as not all states allow this type of towing. Up here, doesn't matter what province you are from, it matters what province you are travelling in, that determines the rules. Up here double towing is legal in Alberta (5er/bumper only, not bumper/bumper), and BC does not allow double towing at all, but I know lots of people who drop the 2nd trailer at the boarder and make a trip back to pick it up.

RE: Shocks for HD Trucks?

I was in the KYB/Bilstein debate about a year ago. I decided to spend a little more and go with Rancho 9000XLS that are fully adjustable. I absolutely love that I can have a good ride then stiffen them up to tow. Whichever ones you decide to go with will make it ride better than what you have!!!
I have installed both brands on 2 different 3500 duallys Both work very good.
chevman
I installed the Rancho 9000xl's, not happy at all, only 25000km and less than 2 years, now they're shot. I'll be going with the Bilsteins this time.

RE: Campers Booking Right Next To You?

About the only thing I don't care for in camping is someone cutting through my campsite without regard or discretion.
Other than that, I don't mind kids, dogs or neighbors. I figure it takes all kinds to make the world go around so be it.
WoodGlue
I agree with this, although if it's a mistake, I have no problem with it, if it happens regularly, I get P.O.'d

RE: Bike rack suggestions requested..

Hanging 4 bikes off the back of a car is a BAD idea especially when you have a tow bar pushing/pulling on the front of the car.
Just get a roof rack.
Roof rack creates a whole 'nother set of problems that I don't want:
1. I am not convinced that mounting a rack to the top of a car that does not have any real place to mount such to (except gutter tracks), is not going to cause some serious scratching, eventually. Thats before getting into the fact that the Fusion has such a curved roof, I still have serious doubts you could even put a rack up there very well. That is something Thule or Yakima would be able to answer Very easily
2. One day somebody (me or DW) would forget the bikes were up there, drive the car into the garage, and CRUUNNCH!! There goes several thousand $$ in damage to bikes, car, and garage door! That's no different than forgetting the bikes are on the hitch on the back. In fact your probably more likely to hit something with a 3' extension off your car that normally isn't there.
3. NOBODY would be able to put the bikes up there or take them down, but me.I agree with this one, except I end up having to go and check that everything is tight anyways, so I'd much rather be responsible for putting the bikes up there. That way I know it's done right.
I understand your point about putting 4 bikes on the back of a car, that is being pulled, pushed from the front. However, I'm just not seeing where that will be an issue, all things considered. My parents have a toad behind their DP, and it gets tossed around back there, more than you would think.
Will
But that choice is yours. Have you thought about putting a rack on the back of the motorhome? My dad built a rack that attached to the bumper (steel back then, not hitch), and the roof. It carried four bikes stacked 2x2 high. We used the factory hitch to tow the boat. This worked great, except loading and unloading was always a two person job. Which didn't really matter, but I guess that means you can't take the bikes with the toad.

RE: Campers Booking Right Next To You?

Wow, a lot of cycnical grumpy butts on this thread. Live and let live. Quit spending your time worrying about what others are doing. If them being close to you bothers you, don't go to a campground that is close in like that. If kids bother you, well...wow. We ALWAYS camp with a couple other families with kids. they are kids. They will be loud. That's AWESOME. It's called playing. Sheesh. Tough crowd.

With two toddlers, the cable or the dish would become a "target", which is why I don't want a dish.
