RE: Changing out my 12 volt starting battery for 2-6 volts.

No problem cranking an onan with the pair of GC2. And these will also get low on charge as regular incandecsent lights use up a lot of power. If you can fit the two GC2 in addition to the small 12v for starting you will never be stuck. And consider some LED lighting to reduce your power draw by 80 percent. Thanks, I would like to keep the 12 volt for a generator starting battery also but I'm little confused on the setup. All the wiring is harnessed together and very hard to follow which ones go to just the generator. I'd hate to wire it up wrong and get something crossed. Any advice on wiring it up this way.

Changing out my 12 volt starting battery for 2-6 volts.

Ok I'm the guy who had the thread about my Fuzion only coming with a 12 volt starting battery which would die very quick when using lights or anything with a 12 volt pull. Been in discussions with my dealer and they are refunding me for what battery I decide to buy. Now for the question...I have the on-board Onan generator which is what the 12 volt start battery was for and I'm going with 2-6 volt batteries. Will there be any problem starting the generator with the 2-6 volts. From what I understand the generator will still recharge the batteries just like it did the 12 volt starting battery. Thanks for your time.

RE: Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

Thanks, just what I needed...diagrams. Do I get rid of the 12v start battery I currently have completely and go with the 2-6v, or keep it for starting the generator? If I keep it to start the generator I would think that would change the diagrams a bit. I know these are stupid questions for some so thanks for being patient:)

RE: Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

I've run 2 6v golf car batts in several trailers I've owned. Plenty of juice. I like to be outside also. The 4 sixes come in handy when you are running things off an inverter or spend alot of time inside with tv, lights ect. I would run 2 6v and see how it goes. You can very easily add two more if needed. Some like 12v deep cycle but I've had such good luck with 6v I'll stick with it. Thanks, do they call the 6V deep cycle also or is that just for the 12V?

RE: Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

Thanks again for everyone's comments and suggestions. I'm going to talk to the dealer and see if they will swap it out for me. If not, I'll go to Sam's and pick up a deep cycle. From what I hear, it sounds like 2-6 volts are better than 1-12 volt. Is this currect? I like SMKettner's setup with 4 6V I just need to figure how to parallel them together where the generator will still recharge them. Is there any place on the web that has a diagram on how to do this? I am a mechanic but when it comes to electric, I get lost.

RE: Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

I find it really weird that your toy hauler came only with a single starting battery. What the hell was your dealer thinking? The vast majority of people boondock in those things and they should have the right type of batteries in them. Ok rant off. :) What do you normally run in your trailer? I generally only run a light or two when inside and maybe the stereo when sitting around outside. Refrigerator is put on gas unless hooked to shore. Only other things I can think of are the monitors for carbon monoxide and fire.

RE: Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

Thank you all for your comments. Now I'm trying to figure out what I need to do because I'm going out again in about 3 weeks. What's the normal for battery count 2, 3, or more or do I need to swap it out for a bigger battery. I've heard of deep cycle batteries, do I need one of those? I can't believe these large RV's don't come with enough battery for the money that we pay for them.

RE: Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

Today most rv gensets do Not have a charging circuit A dedicated battery will go dead You either have a bad battery or you have someting draing power I would start by making sure the fridge is set to lp not on automatic Next i would make sure that any inverter was turned off or that there was no unneeded loads turned on And you might want more batteries depending on your power use Thanks, are you saying that the generator will not charge the battery when it's running? I thought that as long as the generator was running, it would also re-charge the battery.

RE: Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

Does your generator have a separate battery or are you using your house batteries to start the generator? No, the RV only has one battery which is a Crown Marine MAR-600 and it's used to start the generator and run any lights or other DC power you may need.

Do you have separate battery for onboard Generator?

Hi all, just bought a new Fuzion Toyhauler and took it out this past week for the first time, great RV! Only problem I had was that the battery kept getting too low to start the generator and I had to jump it off with my truck. Had to do this 5 times in a week and barely used any electric because we were outside all the time. Does this mean I have to leave the generator on constantly just to keep the battery charged? Shouldn't the generator have it's own battery? I'd let the generator run for 4-5 hours till the battery showed full charge and by next morning it would be dead again. What do you think is going on here? Thanks for your time.
