RE: Fogged Windows - Possible Fix

Suncoast and a place in Oregon seem to be a repair to get. I got an estimate from Suncoast of $200 per 2 pane window and $300 for the driver side window (3 panes). Window size or type makes no difference. They remove, fix and reassemble and install.
We didn't need it done as we had 3 bad and Tiffin replaced them free of charge today. We're at Red Bay now. Had Tiffin not stood behind the windows, I was going to Suncoast. By the way, a new 3 pane driver side window for our rig is about $1700. Just the window, no labor.

Do some experimenting. At 1/4 what was your gauge showing and what did you put in? With no reserve you should have put in 112.5. If the tank has 15 gal reserve, you should put in 112.5-15, or 97.5. Do this exercise 4-5 times and you get an idea what your reserve is. Then you can sneak up on the reserve slowly until you get to the point where you're uncomfortable. Quit there.
Remember to fill as level as you can and squeeze it in as you go. My rig has about a 15 gal reserve, so when I show empty, I have 15 gal left. I've run it to the point where I put 140 gal in. This was to test how far I could go, but with a 150 Gal tank, you shouldn't ever have to go that low. I can, however, consistently estimate how much I need to fill the tank with a 5 gal error based on the gauge reading.

I use a number of pieces of aluminum flashing. Comes in various widths, cut with a scissors and bend as needed. One piece for each job. Probably cost 5 cents each. I'll definitely pass at that price.

My 05 Freightliner chassis does not have that type of hub cover. Mine are what in the trucking industry are called a chrome top hat hub cover. They are retained by a flange that is pinched between the dual wheels. In other words the outer wheel holds the hub cover on. I wonder why there are two different types on from the same chassis maker.It all depends on what the coach builder specifies. Since the wheels being discussed are the polished aluminum ones, the entire cover is not needed. Yours probably has steel painted wheels.

As said, Denali for the high season, yes (they'll have below freezing at night any time from mid August). CG's on the Kenai when the fish are running, Seward for the 4th of July, yes. Any other places/times, doubtful. A call a day or two ahead of arrival will assure you a spot or you can show up early in the day, 1-2PM and you'll be fine. We've been up 3 times in the last 4 years and have NEVER had a problem in the pan handle or in the main part of Alaska. If you can boondock, boondocking is permissible anywhere off the pavement that is not posted prohibiting it. Ferry reservations for the high season is an entirely different story. January reservations for June heading north and August heading south is almost a must. A single leg is probably not too hard, but multiple legs are differerent.

The putty tape will harden over time and loose it's flexibility. Next comes the leaks. Use the butyl.

If you call Mike Cody, the Freightliner Master Technician who teaches the Camp Freightliner course, or someone who works with him, he can give you a contact to purchase a fiber wrench that will fit that nut. The Freightliner help line should get you started.
Or, you can glue two pieces of 1/8" tempered Masonite together and cut one out yourself with a jug saw. About a 30 minute job including the painting. I've been using one I made for 2 years. I've had the rear wheels off 4 times so far as a result of a flat in Alaska and normal maintenance. Homemade works great.

Depending on how it's plumbed, you may have up to 2 or more flow limiters in the system. They will be in the gas spud that connects the regulator to the rig tank, and also in the spud that connects the house line to the regulator. Turn your tank valve off for about30 minutes or so. Then turn the valve on very slowly and see if the system works.

Put the title in a safe deposit box, and get someone who is generally home access to the box. That way if you get a deal you can't pass up, you can have the title overnight if necessary.
A couple of things we do carry is a copy of wills, general power of attorney, and medical power of attorney with directions for treatment if there is no recovery possible. You never know when that terrible accident or illness might strike, and that's no time to be flying home to get those papers. We travel to places where we don't even have cell service for weeks at a time and are on the road around 6 months a year.

RE: Winegard Trav'ler Max Wind Speed?

I was told by Winegard at a show it's 70MPH, but have never seen any written documentation on it. We were hit by some 70MPH winds in Quartzsite in January and it moved the azimuth about 45 degrees, but a stow and deploy were all that was needed and I was back up. I wouldn't bet it could be stowed at those wind speeds, so that was why I left it up. I also had a .94 meter F-2 Datastorm antenna up in those winds and it came through without a problem as well. It didn't move at all. Later I lowered and redeployed it to be sure nothing was broken.

You also have to understand just how the recall/service bulletin business works. In general, when a defect is found and documented on a rig, just about any manufacturer does not want to have NHTSA order a recall. Firstly, they view it as a black mark against them, and second, they have to fix all the rigs with that configuration regardless if they are broken or not. The same "bad" part may fail a lot on some rigs and never on others. To check and replace all parts cost big $$ and has a potential for law suits as all the particulars have to be publicly posted. A service bulletin is "generally" kept quieter, not published and may only apply if a customer complains about a problem, or the part actually fails. Regardless of the popular press accounts, there is always a negotiation between manufacturers and NHTSA on whether a recall or a service bulletin will be issued and how the repairs will be accomplished.
The only real input an individual with a problem can get in to the system is through the NHTSA deficiency reporting system. These go to NHTSA (DOT) and the agency will open an engineering study on an issue when it sees enough of them or when they evalkuate them to be serious enough. How many is enough is determined by how serious the problem is and how much blood it has on it. Of course how good NHTSA lawyers are in comparison to the manufacturers, also plays a big part.
If you have a problem, you need to submit it through NHTSA. It's that simple. Even if the manufacturer/dealer fixes it without charge, it step you shouldn't skip. Depending on the problem to be fixed for others or even reported just by telling the manufacturer's rep or the dealer is a waste of time.

It may be false advertising or misleading advertising, and if it perks their interest, they'll do more than you possibly could to get CW straightened out.

bumpyBecause despite all the opinions expressed here, these are the guys who will be able to tell him if there was false or misleading advertising going on, or if CW did it by the state regulations. And all state regulations are different.

ATF definitely has rust busting and fighting properties. This info was posted a while ago and is available here: Home Made Rust Buster 50% ATF & 50% Acetone. I can't find the actual test report, but I saw it a while back, and this mix was the best by actual test.

I agree with Doug 100%. Twice I have tried to help people in RV parks and ask them to get their owners manual. Both times, "the manuals are at home". And when they trade in their MH's "the manuals are still at home." It's the sellers that remove the manuals, not the dealers.Yeah, just look at some of the questions asked on these forums. If the individual ever even glanced at the manuals they were given, they wouldn't have had to ask. It's no wonder they don't include them in the rig when they trade it. They probably haven't seen them since delivery day.

I use about 2 tablespoons of powered Spic-N-Span in about 3-4 gal of water. I wring out a REAL chamois until I cannot get any water out of it and then wipe, turning the chamois at all times. Rinse the chamois in the bucket and do it again. I don't have any issues with paint scratching or swirls.
If you get streaking, you have used too much Spic-N-Span. I can do the entire 40' bus with one bucket unless it it VERY FILTHY. I use an almost dripping DOBY on the glass for bugs and then wipe as dry as I can with the chamois.

You might look at these. LED Light I presume you want to take all the electronics out of the fixtures and replace them with 12V bulbs? They also sell replacement tubes, but that's less efficient. I've replaced all interior lights with LED's from these guys and am pleased, but have not done the fluorescents.

I agree, people should be more considerate of the Wal Mart and of ANY others who want to use the parking lot, camper or customer.
Unfortunately, there are trolls, idiots and fools all over, and WM lots seem to collect more than their share. They're also the ones who cry the loudest when Wal Mart restricts the lot use. Too bad others have to suffer for the dim bulb's actions.
