RE: New York City advice

We spent a week in a hotel on Times square. Walked and took cabs and buses everywhere. Safety was never an issue. No street people at all as opposed to San Francisco. I agree that we fell very safe. Our bus guide told us they give the homeless jobs cleaning the city. Put them to work and they either get up or get gone. All the people we saw on the street were of the the Ocupy movement. Oh yes, is was Florida in Orange County. Nice little town and off the beaten path. The Park is very nice and they made our group of 7 rigs feel welcome.

RE: Replacing TVs

That is great news. Now I just need to buy and install the TV. Easy right? Thanks

RE: New York City advice

So when we visited NYC this fall, we stayed in Florida at the Black Bear Campground. This is a very nice park and has lots of room for big rigs. We took their 8 hour guided bus trip into the city one day and it was great. We say Times Square, Battery Park, Wall Street, Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. The second day we with two friends drove about 25 miles to Peekskill on the Hudson and took the train into Grand Central Station. It was a Saturday so the train was not crowded with commuters. We had a great day in the city and even walked a little in Central Park and went to the Museum Of Natural History. The city is so grand in size it's difficult to see so much in a day. We took a cab back to the station to take the train. It was a great visit and we hope to go back some day and see everything we missed. We did miss Sandy by about 10 days and were in North Carolina when it hit. Lucky to see what we did in very nice weather.

RE: Replacing TVs

So are you saying that you and replace the CRT TV with a flat screen, (LCD) and receive OTA stations though the original Batwing antenna?

RE: New York City advice

Thanks for the info. I did find the schedule and have that on my laptop. I will consider Croton Station too.

RE: WHERE did you take your class A today!

Picked it up from the local FORD dealer after the oil change service and having the front end aligned. They had to remove the steering wheel to align it afterwords, which is what I wanted. Now it's true and ready for the 9K mile trip.

RE: New York City advice

Thanks for the info. We might be a little further away, but maybe that's a good place to get the train. It's either that or Peekskill station a little north of that. Thanks

RE: New York City advice

We did exactly what you are planning. We camped outside the city and took the train in. The first day we took a boat tour around Manhattan on the Circle Line. Other days we got all day passes for the subway. Between that and walking we saw a lot! Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge was one of our highlights. If you're interested you can check out our pics from that trip here. We didn't have any fear at all while we were there - everyone was very nice and friendly... Lots of tourists and business folks - everyone eats while walking to get somewhere. Have fun! Did you stay at an RV park? If yes, which one? Where did you catch the train to get into the city?

RE: Lake Placid, NY to Shellburne, Vermont

I had considered the southern route and wondered is the new bridge was complete. I had not considered the northern route, but that does sound intersting too. Options, lots of options. At least it's only about 100-150 miles at most. BTW pasuam, i did Google it, but it's nice to hear if from other travelers.

RE: My seven thousand mile trip

If you have an iPhone, the spreadsheet comes with the numbers app. If you are creating your own, i'd add the city and state. I do have an iPhone, but I hadn't heard of the Numbers app. I've been looking for such an item for a while. Thanks it's downloading as I type. I have several spreadsheets that I can use with this app throuhg iCloud. An I did add the city and state as well. Thanks Jack

RE: Lake Placid, NY to Shellburne, Vermont

Looks to be about $50 with an RV and car to cross at Burlington. That would be really nice if we were crossing with a car. Still looking for ideas for a driving route.

RE: My seven thousand mile trip

This is a very nice record of your trip. I am going to copy your spreadsheet for my up-coming Fall Colors trip of 9000 miles. This will be real nice to keep track of the fuel costs. I was planning to do this anyway, but I do like your format. Thanks Jack

Lake Placid, NY to Shellburne, Vermont

A group of RV friends are heading out East from the West. One of our legs is to go from the Lake Placid area to Shellburne, Vermont. The map shows Lake Champlain kinda in the way for a direct route, so we were wondering what's the best way to get between the two areas with RVs and tow vehicles. I see there are ferries, but I'm not sure they can take large RVs & trailers. Thanks for any suggestions. Jack

RE: Black Water Tank Issues

You need to put the Happy Camper in the tank so that it will be clean when you dump. I agree with this. We use Happy Camper and have been for about 6 years now. No problems so far. Having a sprayer on the inside of your tank would help & we were lucky enough that ours cam with it. I really cleans it out.

RE: Toll Roads in East when towing

Since this will be a once in a lifetime trip, I guess we will pay as we go. Much to complicated with multiple states involved.

Toll Roads in East when towing

Planning a trip out east in the fall and I was wondering about toll roads. For instance the Massachusetts Turnpike that runs from Stockridge to Boston, (isn't that in a James Taylor song?). What would the charges be for a motorhome towing a car or a tuck and 5th wheel. Is it based on the number of axels like the GG Bridge? Seems like the toll roads are all over out there. Must be nice roads?

RE: My BEST improvement to my RV

We took the short queen from our previous RV and traded with the 07 we bought. We like it fine. We can't get a full size queen because the when the slide closes, it's up against the cabinet on one side now. We are fine with that and don't notice the shortness when we travel. At home we have a Temperpedic and you can't beat them IMHO.

RE: Trouble disconnecting tow bar

Just to updaate. The last 4 times I have disconnected, I have not had much trouble in part due to your suggestions. I appreciate all the help. Being level does help quite a bit. On our road it was not so level, but turning the wheel helped in that case. Jack

RE: installing tow bar and electrical hook-up on 2012 Honda CRV

I had my Honda hooked up to tow at the local hitch and tow shop. It was about $2500 for everything including an Invisabrake set up. I realize you are not near, but just wanted to let you know how much it might cost if a shop does it for you.
