RE: How much auxiliary power is needed for Jayco + hitch height?

When you said "the hitch will come with a section of parts that have vertical rows of holes so the ball mount can be set at any level." did you mean the trailer hitch? My vehicle hitch does not have any "rows of hole" http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3596/3799186677_dc71f4553a_m.jpg height=240 The WDH will come with the parts you need. Check out this photo... Notice the Hitch "SHANK" that has vertical holes. There is a plate on each side that mounts to the shank that in turn holds your ball mount. This set up can be built to place the ball at the level needed so the tongue of the trailer is level. This is the hitch part that connects to your tow vehicle. Once your trailer tongue is mounted onto the ball, you add on your sway bars and you’re good to go. A complete WDH set up will have all the parts you need and an installation tech should be able to get you set up with the right height.

RE: How much auxiliary power is needed for Jayco + hitch height?

I'm not the expert but what I do know is this. Stop worrying and know that it is a learning process. First off, your wiring will never be more than 10 amps from the TV to the HTT. To have more power, you have to hook up to a 30 amp supply. Your vehicle will never provide that much power no matter what any wiring master can do. They can not improve the amps to the trailer connectors enough to use your TV as a power house when camping or driving. Now for the price; not sure how the economy is where you are buying the RV but the dealers here will cover the Break Control, Hitch, wiring, mounting and training in the negotiated price, and they do negotiate. I am quite happy with my set up and it was worry free. Also note that if you want to hook up to your home, you must have a special 30 amp power supply installed on your home with a separate breaker. Sure, you can buy a converter plug like the most of us but you can not run the AC or microwave on that either. It would be like trying to use an electric oven with a D cell battery. While driving, your 7 prong plug powers your side lights, stop lights, plate lights, turn signals and clearance lights, charges your battery and powers your electric brakes. Once stopped and set up for camping, disconnect the supply to your vehicle or you can drain that battery, too and you’re stuck. The good thing is that if your TV will not start, you can hook it up to the HTT and use that battery to start your TV. The power goes both ways. I know; I’ve done it. You can get a converter to convert your 4 prong to 7 to match the trailer but you will loose some powered accessories, like the brakes. Your fridge will run on propane when traveling and will work just fine. Set your fridge on automatic power. This way the fridge will cool on propane while driving. It will also cool at a much better rate on propane. When hooked up to any electric power supply, it will convert to electricity and conserve propane. It will work just fine and keep everything in the freezer frozen. If you are boon docking and you have your fridge set on electricity, your battery will be dead in no time; so run it off of propane. Also you will NOT have enough power to run your AC or your Microwave on a 120 supply or the connection from your TV. If you try, it will melt your plug/socket and you will have more trouble than doing without the AC. Both of those items have to have the 30 amp plug hooked up to a 30 amp supply. And when they are connected to a 30 amp supply, you still can not run both at the same time. Your fuses will blow. Most camp grounds will have a choice between 30 amps and 50 amps at the RV sites. Once you hook up to your 30 amp supply at your camp ground, run all the lights and AC you want. Just remember to turn your AC off when using the microwave. Your hook up at the camp ground will also recharge your battery. When boon docking without a 30 amp power supply, do without the AC or buy a generator with enough power to get you the amps you need. Now, for the hitch; the hitch will come with a section of parts that have vertical rows of holes so the ball mount can be set at any level. No need to worry about the distance from the trailer hitch and the ground. You can mount your ball hitch at the level that works for you. I would not settle for a WDH that is less than 1000 lbs, though. You may want to upgrade in the future. Your RV dealer should set the hitch at the right level for your trailer.

RE: difference between 2009 & 2010 jayco 23b

My 2005 Jayco23B is the same as the new ones with exception of the panel door on the bath and the color choices inside. Even the wall paper trim around the inside is at the same level. The other visible differences are the color of the window frames. Mine are all white instead of the smoke color. Floor plans are the same with the new rear bed being a Queen instead of Full. Maybe a few changes to the 2010 but not enough to notice.

RE: outside shower door

I wrap the hose around the faucet handle base then lay the head in the space at the bottom. Never a problem.

RE: Newbie here ... don't know anything about hybrids!

Sorry, this turned out to be a long post…:R Welcome… You do have some homework to do. Is this unit from an individual or a dealer? If from a dealer, you may be paying more but you can negotiate the deal to include what you want like the tow hitch and sway bar and break control. If from an individual, you should GOOGLE it and read what you can find. The trailer will have electric breaks but you will need a 6 way or 7 way connector plug on your tow vehicle to match the trailer. You will also have to install an electric break control in your TV. This again can be negotiated if buying from a dealer. If not, they are around 70 bucks and easy to install. Some talk says that a light trailer does not need sway control or weight distribution hitch but both are an insurance policy that you only pay once; best to have the gear and not need it than to suffer the consequences by not having it when it is needed.:S Shop around. Find the right HTT with the right floor plan for your family and for the use you want it for. Some have better storage than others; some have better floor space than others. The price is only as good as what one is willing to pay. You should give the HTT several good inspections. Don’t just kick the tires and get wowed by the bells and whistles. Get under the HTT; look for signs of recent repairs or upcoming repair needs. By all means check the roof and check to see if the seals are all in tact and weather stripping is good. Look for the small signs of neglect or abuse. Look at the appliances and the hook ups to those appliances. Test them. Ask to see the records and manuals for everything and see how well they were kept. Know the gross weight of what your TV will tow. Always allow several hundred pounds between the HTT gross weight and your tow limit. Don’t even consider an HTT that is very close in weight limits. That weight will get out of hand before you know it. Now that you are truly scared to death, think of this. I purchased my Jayco23B the day after I failed to do everything I mentioned above. Fortunately I missed the deal on a HTT that wowed me but was not nearly as clean and well maintained as my Jayco23B. I went home heart broken. The next day I started looking and found so many other choices out there. That was when I found the Jay Feather and I don’t regret missing the first deal. I am much better off for it. I truly had someone looking out after me. :)

RE: Aluminum wheels on jayco 23-B

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2663/3756354147_a36c1c8eca_m.jpg height=240 This is the best shot of the fender clearance that I have now. This was edited from another photo shot so the detail may not be good. However; you can see that the wheels fill up the space. I have no issues with the 15 inch wheels at all. I get good clearance and don't worry about the road. I can level the HTT when it is still hooked up to the TV because it is nearly as high. Now, I have noticed that there is some pressure put on the wheels when backing in a tight turn. The wheels do not always line up and track straight when in a reversing turn. When backing straight in line with the TV there is no issue or noticeable misalignment. Forward tracking is never an issue. I purchased my Jayco23B used and have no doubt that the previous owner did wheel/tire modifications and kept the HTT in excellent repair.

RE: random question about cars @ campgrounds

Texas State Parks allow one camper and one tow vehicle. I believe its five dallars per day extra per car. Big rip off. This is true for most TX State Parks. However, most extra cars just pay a separate entry fee. Also a rip off. Recently, I stayed at a park and the extra car had to be parked at the rest rooms. This made the rest room parking lot full all the time so one could not drive to the showers. When we did have the second car at the site to load up, a Park Ranger warned us that it needed to be moved right away.

RE: Some thoughts on our "Shake down" trip in our new Jayco 23J.

Congratulations! :B My brother and I both own a Jayco. His is the Jay Flight G2 (29ft super slide with all the bells and whistles at 8Klbs). Mine is the Jayco 23B. My other family members (relatives from every direction) have fallen in love with my Jayco 23B and some are now considering the Jayco 23J for themselves. I love the floor plan and layout but that super slide is too much weight for my Tundra. And yep, that gas mileage dropped to 8mpg when towing. But, you gotta love it! :C SO ENJOY!

RE: Our awning is BLUE!

We got ours from RV outlet Mall in Georgetown!! Did you?? No, I purchased mine at Marshall's Travel Land in Buda. On a whim I would say. I ran across it by accident on my way to the Jayco dealer across the highway. I hope you have good luck with the RV Outlet Mall's service. I have heard some bad things about them but don't let me worry you. Oh, and my awning is a perfect match of beige and tan, thank you. LOL :p

I think that an upholstery shop would sew something up for you if you can find the raw supplies.

Sun Valley made the Sun-Lite Eagle truck camper with the pop up top, too. You might be able to contact this dealer to see if replacement screen can be custom made for you since Sun Valley is no more. RE: Picked up the Kiwi

One can buy stainless steel snap kits with the tool to mount the snaps at sporting good and camping stores like ‘Academy’. The base snap might have to be screwed or riveted in place, though. Not expensive at all.

RE: What campground to use in Branson MO.

Ten different parks came up on Google. Branson is small and easy to get around so any should be fine. I'd check out their web sites; but of course, all web sites show the finer aspects of a business. Closer to the strip will put you closer to the "Las Vegas" style lights and extremely heavy traffic. Every show parking lot has RV parking while you're at the show. Just spent a week in Branson last fall; loved it but stayed in a hotel that smelled of dead fish. They had a Sea Food buffet every day. I did not have the HTT then but I doubt that I would take it next time I go; too many high hills, narrow streets and winding roads for my driving talents. The Ozarks are great, extremely beautiful wooded mountains. Good luck and have fun but let us know where you stay. Oh, and don't miss the Branson Bell River Boat show! And no trip to Branson is complete without a shopping trip to Dick's 5 & 10 store in the historic area. What a trip to the past; and they sell everything!

RE: Picked up the Kiwi

Velcro holds to Velcro but is only as strong as the adhesive that is holding it to the surface. I turned down a purchase on a cub because the Velcro had come unattached from the bed base panels in spots and would not re-stick. It was too much of a concern for me. My Jayco 23B has snaps as well and I love them. They are strong and reliable.

RE: Outdoor Shower

I've actually heard of campgrounds during drought conditions encouraging the draining of grey water into the areas behind the campsite to help with irrigation. Memorial Day Weekend in central Texas, I camped at a private membership CG with a group of 125 other campers in tents and RVs. We were encouraged to let the grey water loose into the wooded areas behind the camp sites. Several campers did just that. I just used the outdoor shower, as I was already in the woods. The sign on the public restroom door said "conserve our septic system and water a tree". This place was extremely remote.

RE: Outdoor Shower

Ditto! Love my outdoor shower. Also added a changing room to keep wet swim suits and feet out of the HTT. I even added a light for those late night wash ups. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3540/3621544432_5c15e00866_m.jpg height=240

RE: Seals Shrinking

I hate to say it, but it might just be the nature of the beast. The sun is harsh and with you in West Texas. Man… I have seen seal replacements for RVs. Google “RV Sealing“, you’ll be surprised. Before I bought my New To Me Jayco, I saw many adds that stated “New Seals” and “Fresh Rubber” or newly replaced windows, etc. I live in Central Texas where it is rarely less than 100 degrees in July and August but nothing like your West Texas climate. :C

Flame King Sam’s Club less than $15.00; fraction of the price online or in the RV centers. Glows in the dark, too. I bought two! Only because I lost my first one in the woods; still in the package.:S

RE: Permanent Rope Lights on HTT

Do those of you with rope lights leave them on all night? I would be afraid of disturbing any neighbors with so much light. Have you any complaints, yet? And /Or, do you supplement your rope lights with other lighting that can be left on all night? I run lights on the ground under and around the HTT frame, and behind the steps, so that if anyone is stepping out at night, they can safely see any fuzzy critters or slithering creatures.:E The lights stay on all night but are ground level with no complaints. I, too, have been configuring permanent rope light mounts on my HTT. I found the Wally World 38’ lights in the camping department for less than $15.00. No one offers that long of a strand for that price. The tube fits into the Tacky Light hooks perfectly. I know that Home Depot sells the adhesive mounting strips to mount them but have not made the plunge. Rope lights are already very popular in camp grounds. Once we all have them mounted permanently onto our TTs the camp grounds will look like year round Christmas Villages. :B
