RE: Direct tv or dish network

Warning Warning Warning, We had DIRECT TV for 2 years and knew that when we signed up 2 years ago we were under a 2 year contract so last month the contract was up and we got a flyer from dishnetwork offering good deal to switch. So I called DIRECT TV to cancell service and was told that our contract was renewed 1 month earlier for 2 more years ,WHAT!!!. I had a reciever quit for no apparrent reason a month before so I called to replace and was told just pay for shipping and they would send a new one out no problem so I did not knowing they renewed my contract at that time with no notice or signature. When I tried to explain I was rudley told read your contract. So to get out of it I had to pay 20.00 for each month remaining on the contract I never signed totaling 430.00! What a trick! Now if you don't believe me just google DIRECT TV and there are thousands of complaints against DIRECT TV with hundreds like mine about the mysterious contract I renewed. There is no way out and they have you ss# so to avoid a neg credit report you have to pay or stay. If I stay and a nother reciever quits what then? Do your research like I didn't .

state park ? and....

Me and DW are heading out in a couple weeks to a local state park for a couple nights camping and have been to park just to check out without RV. We did notice as we were passing through the alcohol prohibited sign and we understand it fully and what probally caused it. Now we don't pull out the vodka and dance around the RV but do like to sip on couple of brews in the evening and when we do even at private campgrounds we keep in a non noticable container. We were wondering if others do this at state parks, if DW wants a glass of wine w/dinner are we going to be arrested and shot at dawn. I would assume out of site and not intoxicated would be ok. just curious

RE: Natural bridge jellystone

We stayed there in march and found it to be a great place to camp, your campsite can be right on the river or accross the road in the woods, if you have kids the just put in a new water slide and some water spray things to keeps them cool. The owners and staff are very nice and have a good camp store. We did not see any nice resturaunts thereat natural bridge bu there are some small cafe's . One thing you can't miss is the safari park if you like animals you can drive through and feed them! The main highway cuts through about 6 miles from the campground and I think we saw signs on highway for resturaunts.

Question about Disneys Fort Wilderness campground

I've read alot about fort wilderness on this board so me and the wife wanted to plan a trip for winter 2010 so I decided to call the reservations since most say you better book a year in advance. Well I had their website rates in front of me when I called. The Operator took my info and could check avail. and asked which week we wanted ,we are pretty flexible from january thru end of march so the rate this year was 72.00 a night in the value season so being disney was willing to pay extra so I picked feb 1st 2010 for a week and the operator said it was open and the cost was 106.00 a night but they have not set rates for then yet and could change. I picked a date on the value season side so I told him to check a date in march , he said it was open and it was also 106.00 a night and I explained they are only 72.00 a night during the value season now.Seemed to me thats quite an increase with no garantee of the final rate. My question from some of you fort wilderness veterans is this normal? will the rates return to normal later or go up? Should I wait till they have locked in rates. What do most people do? :h

RE: Cape Hatteras, Ocracoke & Environs

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our plans have changed! We were going to head up to Cape Cod and Maine in early June, but the campground fees are horrendous (until you get to Acadia Nat’l Park), so we’ve decided to go South instead, and we have questions about Cape Hatteras National Seashore and environs. How buggy is it in early to mid June? Do cell phones work in Frisco & Ocracoke? Is it necessary to make reservations for the Nat’l Park campground in Ocracoke the 2nd week in June? (we’re thinking it’s before most of the schools get out) How necessary is it to make a reservation on the Ferry from Ocracoke to Cedar Island, and if necessary, how long before taking it? Anyone have any experience with Driftwood Campground in Cedar Island? Ideally, we like to travel with as few reservations as possible – if we love a spot, we’ll stay for a few days, and if not, we’ll move on. From what I read, that appears easier to do in this area than in New England – am I right? And we always prefer National Parks! Thanks for your help. As for your 1st Question cell phones work great there. We generally make ferry reservations a couple days in advance but call the ferry to see what they recommend. We drove past driftwood and was not very impressed. Now as far as the campgrounds buxton to hatteras have some great private campgrounds. But if your into dry camping oregon inlet to hatteras to okracoke have some national park campgrounds that are cheap, No hookups. Also most are open w/No trees and are not very packed. Hope this helps

RE: Where to go from Florida in July-August?

You do not have to go far west to get cooler. Rutherfordton is in lower elevations. We have left asheville in july w/temps there in the 70s to arrive at the bottom just past marion where it was in the 90s.

RE: pipes freezing

We had both the elect. heater on and the Rv heater . The RV heater would cycle on and off every half hour or so while the elect heater would run all the time.

RE: Where to go from Florida in July-August?

You might want to try the mountains from nc to wv , we visit there every year and we see alot of fl. lisence plates in july-august. There are also alot of nice campgrounds. I would research a maine trip . We were going to go there this july and found that they get very crowded there . And you said you were not looking to drive a long way ,we live here in nc and it is 1000 miles from us. If you do decide to visit the blue ridge research there also there are alot of good campgrounds but some are bad so try trip adviser, Rv park reviews etc. We found 2 camp grounds in the nc mountains that looked great on the internet but when we drove to them to ck them out we found they had a logging and lumber operation on both sides of the campgrounds.

pipes freezing

We tried out our new camper this weekend. We were camping in some pretty cold conditions. It dropped down to 25 degrees 2nd night and 10 degrees 3rd night. We Have a new keystone that they advertise for winter camping and we like visiting the blue ridge in winter But both nights the water pipe in floor would freeze despite keeping inside temp 70, also tried to leave cabinets open and as soon as daytime temps went above 32 water would run fine no leaky pipes. The camper has insulated underbelly but wondering if I need to insulate pipes in floor or has anybody had this problem and found a good way to solve it.

RE: Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground, NC

We live here in NC and visit the outerbanks several times a year. There is alot to do there. But we go down to relax because there are miles and miles of open beach to go on. I noticed you have a 4 wheel drive so it is worth taking a day trip out on the beach to swim ,grill , relax , fish, play games(volleyball etc.)Even in july you can generally find a large open spot. There is alot of things you can pay to do but we enjoy the less commercial side. Its not myrtle beach. There are also alot of great campgrounds .We like the ones down farther towards hatteras because they are more like camping and are not as packed. There are several together in rodanthe but it is very congested there. Also you must take the ferry to okracoke island as the beaches are great there and the village on silver lake has lots to do. As for the fishing charters we found after lots of trips Hatteras fishing village has the best offshore fishing because it is closest to the gulf stream and the captains are frendlier then other places. During july offshore you will catch tuna, king mackeral, wahoo, and maybe sailfish and marlin and if you want a cheaper less dramatic trip try the inshore trips for bluefish , spanish mackeral, flounder etc. I hope this helps . Also yes it gets hot but the wind is almost always blowing and the sunsets and evenings are great.

dometic refridgerator problem

We have a new rv with a gas/elect dometic refridgerator. Elect. side works fine when we try to use gas side it does not light and the check light comes on. I opened the access panel for the refri. and can hear gas solenoid clicking open and was able to light burner w/match noticed that he igniter was not sparking so followed igniter wire to circuit board and put multimeter on terminal going to the igniter and it was not putting out any voltage. Unit still under warrenty so called dealer said to bring in but dealer is along distance. Seems like it just may need a new board. Has anybody had this problem or know a quick fix. I wander if dometic would just send me a replacement board.
