RE: 2005 GMC HD2500 tire choice

A little more icing on the cake, the Goodyears are rated at 30K, whereas the Kelly Safari is rated at 40K.

2005 GMC HD2500 tire choice

Needing new tires for my 2005 GMC HD2500 pickup. You can see in my signature below what I am towing. Truck takes 245/75R16 10 ply. I have run 215's in the past. I have been using Michelins the past few times, but am keeping my mind open to other brands. It seems like the Michelins wear pretty fast, and for the price, I'd like to get a few more miles out of a set. GMC dealer recommends either Kelly Safari ATR or Goodyear Wranger HT. These two brands are about $50-$75 per set less than the Michelins. I'd like some suggestions / feedback from those who have tried a few brands and have found one brand that you like, prefer feedback from other GMC HD2500 owners. Thanks in advance!

RE: Camp in Estes Park CO

Spruce Lake. We were there 2 years ago. Good location to enterance to RMNP and if you need supplies or adult bev, short walk cross the bridge to store.

RE: Screw in floor coming up

But, keep in mind that as I explained in OP, there is vinyl down first, then carpet. That is the way Jayco does their trailers, lay one sheet of vinyl down over the entire floor, then the carpet goes down only where needed, so separating the backing of the carpet most likely will not work.

RE: Screw in floor coming up

I'll try that Charlie.

RE: Screw in floor coming up

Yes, I am familiar with tack strips and knee kickers. I spent a year working with a flooring installer. My knees still hurt.

RE: Screw in floor coming up

Screw is in the middle of the living room. I think I'd rather make a 1 inch slice before peeling all that back. But, good advice on putting glue in the hole before screwing in because if it came out once, it'll come out again.

RE: Screw in floor coming up

Not sure what kind of carpet. I thought of using seam tape like carpet installers use, but I know from experience that this carpet melts VERY easily. Being I'd have to take the plastic cardboard off the bottom of the trailer to access the screw from the underside, I think it would be best to cut the carpet, deal with the screw, then insert double sided tape.

RE: Outside Propane Quick Disconnect

Bob Landry is correct. You are regulating the gas twice. I went thru the same frustration when I bought my Coleman Roadtrip grill. I cut off the regulator from the connector on the grill and attached the rubber hose to the cut grill connector. Been using for 5 years now with no problems.

RE: Any Jayco owners out there?

We are on our first Jayco, had one issue a couple years back. Roof leak. Roof was out of warranty, but I proved to them I had roof inspected yearly and had one small leak by a window that dealer could not track down. Although Roof was out of warranty they agreed to replace roof if I brought the trailer to them and picked it up. Pulled it from Arkansas to Indiana. They ended up replacing roof, side and front wall plus kitchen counter top, for free. They have me as a customer for life.

RE: Preventative roof maintenance?

Never stops amazing me what can be found on YouTube. RVED101 has a few videos in conjunction with Dicor. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dsCoHAqKO9Q

RE: RV Friendly Gas Stations

Something the DW does is log on her laptop where we stop for gas and if it was an easy in / out. This obviously only helps on repeat trips. You travel enough, you get to know how many miles you can safely go before refuel. Do a little prep as you are planning your route and thru the blessings of Google Earth, you can see the entrances to gas stations. Not a fool proof method, but it is a tool you can use to assist in making a choice.

RE: Jayco FKS322 battery relocation

I like the venting idea GILLDAW79 uses as well. I think taking it on step further, you could line the Lowes sink drains with a wire mesh to keep nesting wasps and mud dawbers out. I was hoping there would be enough room between the tool box and front angled trailer to place the box there, but it does not look like it.

RE: Jayco FKS322 battery relocation

FYI, I would never consider relocating battery to inside the trailer.

RE: Jayco FKS322 battery relocation

I didn't want to mount the battery in the storage box for two reasons...venting, and to allow more room for storage.

RE: Irving WalMart on 183 running off RVs

Generally, if you run across a Walmart that does not allow RV's, it is due to city / county ordinance. In some cases, the 18 wheelers have clogged the parking lots so much that some Walmarts have had to place overhead barriers at parking lot entrances. (please, no flaming from truckers, thank you) I spent alomost 20 years working for Walmart. Believe me, RV'er are generally welcome because an RV in the parking lot usually means RV'ers in the store spending money. Tip: If you choose to boondock at a Walmart, please remember the following... 1.) Always go inside the store and ask for the store manager and ask if it is OK to park and overnight. It tends to work better if you have a shopping cart in hand with a few things you will be purchasing. 2.) DO NOT stay more than one night. No more explaination needed. 3.) Make a purchase. There is always something you need, or forgot. If Walmart doesn't have it, you don't need it. 4.) THANK the store manager for allowing you to spend the night. Remember, it is a privilage, not an entitlement. Thanks.

Jayco FKS322 battery relocation

Contimplating a small project of relocating my battery box on my 2005 Jayco 322FKS trailer. I want to mount a metal storage box there for various tools and accessories. There will not be room for the battery box once I install the storage box on the front A frame. Has anyone relocated the battery box? And if so, where did you relocate it? Any tips, trials, tribulations you can share is appreciated.

RE: Departure checklist

Search for app "RV Checklist". The one I use has a departure and an arrival / set up checklist as well as camping perpetration list. It has pretty much anything and everything you need to remember. The app also has the option of deleting anything that may not pertain to your rig / adventure, and adding anything the data base may not have.

RE: Grill hook-up

I had the same delema. I took the regulator from the grill, cut off the regulator portion off the regulator that came with the grill so all that I had was the chrome tube that screwed into the back of the grill. I got a hose that connected to the trailer coupler, cut the other end off and used a hose clamp to attach to the modified chrome piece screwed into the back of the road trip grill. I have been using this setup since 07 with zero issues.

RE: Branson

We were there in June. As mentioned above, most things are back to normal. Businesses are very appreciative of people coming back. We stayed at ABC (Americas Best Campground). Although sites a little close to each other, great location to town without feeling your in town. Owners were very accommodating. We'd stay there again.
