RE: Digital Camera Recommendation

If you want a camera that will slide into any pocket just use a phone with a camera built in.
Get a camera with a View Finder and decent features regardless of which brand you buy and also for most image capturing flexibility get a "super zoom"- to us that means at lest a 20X zoom.
One of the very best on the market today is the Canon SX10 IS.
Most all of the features of a DSLR but with a zoom range all SLRs will envy and with an adapter you can get even more zoom.
My bride has taken probably 75,000 pictures with her SX10 (she takes several hundred per day) and it is well made, always reliable, reasonably fast "writing" images to the card and simply a winner all round.
She has taken several thousand pics with the newer SX20 and we both see a higher image quality improvement with the step up from 10 to 12MegPxls.

RE: Scanning a doc to attach it to an email....

I prefer to use a free utility called Cute PDF Printer - do a google -this free utility will let you select "print" but it actually saves any document or file as a PDF file on your HDD which you can attach to an email or whatever.
It's so easy - take any open doc and click on print and select CutePDF and it will format the doc as a pdf at your selected file/folder location.
Anywho, it's what I prefer to use for tons of docs.

RE: Saving $20K not buying at Lazy Days

We bought a pre-owned older Class A at LD so we couldn't have saved $20k somewhere else as it only cost $30k at LD and was near average retail NADA value.
LD found a TON of problems during their pre-delivery inspection and corrected them at no additional charge - one item that comes to mind is complete replacement of the main awning and the supports.
They also re-worked the hot water heater and various shower/bath components.
We also appreciated that we could stay in our coach for two days prior to our accepting it and we tested EVERYTHING and we found other things that needed replacement or adjustment.
When we drove our coach home we were satisfied that EVERYTHING was in perfect working order and we have had to do only minor and expected maintenance during the five years we have owned the machine.
Yeah, maybe we could have paid a bit less had we bought from another source but we sincerely believe that paying a bit more at LazyDays was more than worth it.

Add a half leaf or air bags?

Have a 97 HRambler Vacationer F53 gas chassis - rear end is a bit low to the ground.
I can spend a few hundred bucks and have a shop add 1/2 a leaf each side OR I can spend a few dollars more and have air bags installed with a life time guarantee.
Is there a simple answer as to what is the preferred option?
Some advice us that adding the 1/2 leaf will lift the rear but condemn us to a permanent rough ride.
I can't find any negative to the air bag option so long as I buy top quality with lifetime warranty.
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

RE: Class A DP with Dual Hide-A-Beds or Jack Knifes

A LOT depends on the limitations of the coach. Some DPs have engine compartment intrusion into the rear bedroom under the bed.
Remember that motorhomes can easily be remodeled to suit owner preferences.
Jack Knife sofas suck - not comfortable to sit on and not comfortable to sleep on - same with bench dinettes that convert to beds.
We removed the bed and under bed storage box in our HRambler's bedroom and this opened up the space into a nice multi-purpose room.
Inflatable mattresses for sleeping. Store them away and you have a play room or movie room or video game room during the daytime.
We could have just as easily installed bunks if that had been our preference.
We replaced our jack knife with a wonderful hide-a-bed.
Make it into what YOU want - don't be intimidated - it's just not that hard!

RE: lazyday RV

As with buying ANYTHING you have to be a savy buyer and know what you want and what it is worth TO YOU and then make a decision.
We bought our pre-owned Class A at Lazy Days a few years ago and our experience was OUTSTANDING!
We still enjoy our coach and still believe that their sales and post-sales staff are beyond compare to most other dealers.
Best Thing is you should go there and spend two or three days checking out the inventory compared to your rv needs and ONLY then can you make an intelligent buying decision.
Best of Luck

RE: 47 or 52 inch?

15 foot eye-to-screen distance means get a projector and screen if you want a true Theater in the Home experience or second best get the biggest tv you can buy.
We have a 56 inch 1080p TV and it does TV great but it can't compete with the PJ and screen for a Theater experience which gives us about a 120 inch diagonal.
TVs are slowly moving to Theater size - like the Mits 82 inch RPTV - not big enought yet for Theater but getting there.
Anywho, with a 15 ft. distance just get the biggest tv you can find and afford - you will never reget having a bigger set but can easily regret a smaller one.
Best of Luck

RE: How to copy slides

IMO - trying to shoot pics with a camera of a slide image on a projection screen is about as low quality as you can go.
My bride recently bought an Epson V500 for a couple hundred bucks and in pro mode it does a reasonably nice job copying slides. Each slide will take a loooong time to scan (depending on your PC/chip/power)but the result is a VERY good scan of a slide.
If it's true that a pro photo shop will charge only about 25 cents to use professional equipment to scan each slide then I would go that way instead of waiting about 10 minutes for each slide to scan at home.
Of course, it depends on the camera you were using to shoot the slides back in the day. If you were using a high quality camera with at LEAST a 35mm film frame then paying for professional scans makes sense. If the slides were shot with like a $30 Vivitar 110 camera with a plastic lens then don't waste your money.

RE: Burning a CD or DVD on Vista

I was able to find an old legacy program that I use on our laptops that run Vista (only machines we will tolerate with Vista). It lets me choose data or music or video or etc. type disc and then choose the files/folders and then accepts the "burn" prompt - so gotta ask what program are you trying to use? Did it come pre-loaded with the PC or is it a program you loaded onto the HDD?

RE: Tailgators at UGA give campers a bad name

Okay but it's not just "tailgaters" and not just UGA.
UF campus on home game days turns into a whacky and strange place with people set up EVERYWHERE on campus with tarps and portable sun shelters and generators and grills and coolers and they all toss trash EVERYWHERE.
Know what? They contribute TONS of money to the college and Athletic Association so their trash is tolerated.
The RV tailgaters are actually well behaved and pretty much clean up after themselves so maybe Gator motor home tailgaters are a higher quality of fan than those sorry Dogs in Athens - LOL!!! and Go Gators.

RE: cleaning black spots off of molding/trim

I don't know how this might affect the lifespan of the vinyl but our mechanic has a motorhome and gave me a can of spray brake cleaner and the stuff took all the black stuff right off.
Anywho, worked for us.

RE: black tank valve episode

First - stop the leaking plus in some states having leaking sani-system valves is actually illegal.
Do a Google search for the "twist-on waste valve". This is a $16.00 item that twists right onto the outflow of your system where your flexible drain line connects and it seals perfectly.
When I found this I put one on just to have an extra gate valve of protection.
So, I suggest you buy one of these to seal your system and then if you can't get the regular valve to clear and seal then put on the gloves and pull the system cover and replace the defective black tank gate valve.

RE: Camping World system for finding roof leaks?

We had a leak that we could not find nor fix.
Went to an area dealer and had the Sealtech test done - flat rate of $125.00. The test quickly showed where the water was entering our coach and it was no where near where we thought it would be.
Well worth the money!!

RE: Canceled Direct in the MH

We began with DirecTV about 12 years ago - back then you could buy the equipment and you owned it - we still have and use our old standard definition receivers - obviously really well made - we're really happy with DirecTV - BTW.
However, four or so years ago the deal changed and you could no longer buy and own a DirecTV receiver.
Call the $99 a lease initiation fee cause no matter what the receipt says you didn't buy it - you made an initial lease payment and DirecTV owns it.
Why would you want to keep it anyay, except to hang on to a principal but your principal is based on your misunderstanding - ya don't own it and you cancelled the service so unless you think the receiver is so decorative you want to keep it on display why not just send the darn thing back??? I dunno - I have a lot of serious stuff to get all huffy and exercised about - something like this wouldn't have made the list - LOL - no offense meant.
Good Luck

RE: Front line/Advantix

We can't say why but we quit using the insecticides with the spiffy names about two years ago and, so far, NO fleas or ticks on the furkids.
I know,I know - you have to do SOMETHING but all that stuff - Frontline, Advantax and even the oral Comfortis (what a misnomer of a name)is poison and not good for the furkids.
If it was safe versions would be made for people to take - they call it "medicine" but, one more time, it's nothing but poison.
If and when we notice a flea or a tick we have several non-poisonous natural things we will try but NO MORE topical or oral poison for our furkids - at any price.

RE: Rehabing coach decals and wheels

Problem with replacing vinyl is once you do it the new vinyl stripes start aging.
We found a small shop with a good automotive paint person and for just over a grand they removed all the faded and cracked vinyl and replaced with beautiful clear coat paint - WOW! - took years off the appearance of our older motor home.
Removing and replacing vinyl graphics - IMO - can be a hard, hot and time consuming job and we are very happy we found what for us was a better option - paint!!!

RE: Carpet Replaement

Maybe "floating" is a not so accurate term - I dunno - all I can share is that we removed our forward carpet and vinyl flooring in the galley area and replaced with laminate planks.
I WOULD NOT want them glued or nailed to or into the subfloor because if by accident we damaged a plank I can easily pull the molding, un"snap" the planks to remove the damaged one and replace with a new one and re"snap" everything back together.
Our laminate has been installed and in use for three years now and it has not warped or given us any problem installed as per the "floating" instructions and it looks like new.

RE: 3D TV on the way

3D is truly arriving and it is about time.
Most current applications do require viewers to wear special glasses whether at home or at one of the many theaters already upgraded or scheduled for upgrade to digital projection with 3D capability.
The minor inconvenience of wearing the glasses will be more than off set by the 3D viewing experience and FINALLY all the "players" are on board - tv makers and projector makers and, most important, Hollywood and all that create the content that we watch - ALL on board for 3D.
Beyond the kidding it is well past time that we went beyond the 2D viewing we have put up with since the turn to the 20th century to something more multi dimensional.
