RE: Renting a CamperVan (Class B)

I think you won't find a better price than $150 a day. Remember, motels can cost about that much with meals and all... A Class B (a newer one) is much better than a car or a cargo van. Depending on how many people are going to sleep in it, you might look at a minivan. A friend of mind did to go cross country. He just added a Porti-potti and an air mattress in the back. :B

RE: Wii

We like the Wii as well. When on trips, We bring it onboard, hook it up to the LCD TV, and use it for our exercise routine. Balance is most important for good posture as we all know (especially as we older. And, the Wii does a wonderful job is helping us achieve good balance. It also helps maintain weight control. I highly recommend it. :D

RE: While Searching For A Parking Spot

Could it be the town's public works department truck??? :h This reminds of when we were in suburb of L.A. in CA this summer on our cross country trip in our B, we spotted this guy driving an old Toyota Camry stopping every 50 feet or so picking up litter of the side of the road, putting it in a plastic bag, throwing the bag in the back seat of the car and then driving to the next spot of litter. It was told by a local resident that this guy got an award from the town for keeping the town's streets clean. I was also told that the guy's wife divorced him over this practice. :S

RE: DOES SIZE MATTER

I agree with Barman & molchaser. All posters here are making valid points. In 2005, I looked at all 3 models - the 170, 190 & the 210 after zeroing in on Roadtrek. We ended up picking up the 190 for these reasons: 1. Bigger size (2 feet longer) than the 170 but still easy to park anywhere. 2. We got the Versatile model with the 4 seats up front so we could take another couple along day trips (like a SUV). We do this quite often. At that time, the 170 only had the Popular model. 3. More storage capacity then the 170. We removed the driver's side 2nd row seat and put a cabinet there for our cross country trip this summer. This made a huge difference in storage of clothes, etc. Upon return, we replaced the seat back in it's place for local driving, etc. (This takes 10 minutes). 4. We liked the 210 but I felt it did not "drive" as easily. My DW liked to drive the 190 the most of all 3 models. If I was alone, I would probably choose the 170 model. It is definitely best for single RV'ers in terms of parking and drivability. I would suggest that you try all 3 models out. We "kicked out" the salesman and "pretended" to live in each of the rigs. We "tried" the shower, slept on the bed, and "used" the toilet. This is how we arrived at the point of deciding to purchase the 190 Versatile. it is a matter of personal preference that you can live with. Take your time and let your basic instinct decide for you. When the time comes, you will know which model to purchase. If not, don't buy it. :B

RE: Roadtrek 190 Question

Yes. The rear doors can be opened from inside. This is true on my Chevy RT 190 Versatile and... I know for a fact it is the same for the 190 Popular according to a friend that has one. My DW & I actually run "fire drills" 4 times a year so it is pretty routine now. I have a reminder on my iPhone calendar that reminds us to "run" the fire drill every 3 months on the 1st of the month. We pretend we are sleeping and get up & out the rear doors. There is a handle and power lock on the passenger's side rear door. Oh, we also run these with the hitch bike rack with two bikes on the back. It is more difficult in this case but it can be done. We practice it both ways. You just never know...

RE: Any photos of the NEW Roadtrek SS Ideal?

This reminds me of when the iPhone first came out. "It's ugly." "It'll never work!" "There're no buttons to text with!" Now, it is selling quite well around the world. I have this weird feeling that once people get inside the Ideal and see how large the bathroom is and check out the layout that perhaps the Ideal might do well on the market for those RV's that want to "downsize" and get great fuel economy. I dunno... I would give this some time to develop and enjoy how this evolves. It certainly has created quite a "buzz" like the iPhone did that now most smart phone manufacturers have to compare their products with in advertisements. ("This is the iPhone Killer!")

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

I traveled down to Virginia last week and stopped at a Cracker Barrel just north of Baltimore on the way down for the night. There was another RT there that I parked next too. That model RT was the 210 whereas mine (on the right) is the 190 Versatile. Please excuse the low quality of the pic. It was dark in the pouring rain. http://gallery.me.com/jstudley/100124/IMG_2192.jpg?derivative=medium&source=web.jpg&type=medium&ver=12601376350001 height=450 width=450 Here is a VW camper at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in CT on the way back a few days later. I almost signed papers on one of these in the 1980's! HTRJ, I hit the slots but lost $9 and called it "quits!" I spent the rest of my $20 limit on lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen restaurant at the bar! :B http://gallery.me.com/jstudley/100151/IMG_2194.jpg?derivative=medium&source=web.jpg&type=medium&ver=12601376810001 height=450 width=450

RE: Photo thread of Sunrise or Sunset from a "B"

Nice shot RoadRunnerRon! I went down to Virginia last week and got mostly rain. The morning after I arrived there I missed the sunrise in the morning. (I overslept). :B When I left Wednesday to head back up to the northeast, it rained heavily again. I'm going down to FL in January (my first snowbird experience) so maybe I'll get some nice shots then. Thanks again. (You too HTRJ). :D

RE: Any photos of the NEW Roadtrek SS Ideal?

I think this is great thing happening actually. Meaning, a company is being innovative in design and features. What's wrong with that? I suspect that if Roadtrek goes further with this project, it will "finish" the look (with colors and finish work) of the slide and doors. I am wondering that maybe class A and C owners might like the idea of a slide in the rear of the sprinter SS, since they are used to the idea of slides. And, perhaps that is the market RT is gearing at. These could be people who don't want a B+ and want a small sized B for all the reasons we own a B. (Park it anywhere, use it for shopping & touring, low maintenance, etc.) Personally, I'm not a slide believer but it could change... I sometimes wonder that maybe the same people that criticized the fact that the RV industry got behind in innovation (a few months ago), are now criticizing companies that are "ahead" of the industry in design features and innovation :h I like the idea that one or more companies are not sitting by the wayside but are working on new ideas. I would sit back and wait this out to see if this might catch on. Oh, I think this is quite funny too! People got a little excited over a prototype! :B

RE: Now for the long wait

Congratulations WTM! :B You will love your RT! We love ours. I took a nice Sunday drive today as well. You will love the fact you can take it out any day and just park anywhere, anytime! You will find that you will use it much more than your previous rig. Good move! :W I think you will enjoy this forum as well.

RE: Weight on roof

I simply use a regular ladder (not a step ladder). Make sure you have good footing on the ladder. (Some ladder steps or rungs I think they call them, are too narrow for good footing and stability). A good ladder that feels comfortable to you is most important. 1. Wrap a towel/rag around the top of both sides of the ladder so that when you lean it against the B, it will not scratch the side of the vehicle. 2. DO NOT GET ON TOP OF THE B! It is not a good idea! I'm saying this for your safety due to height should you slip and fall off the top's smooth roof surface. (Not necessarily the too much weight argument). 3. Work on the top by moving the ladder as needed. You will be amazed how quickly you can clean/wax the top without having to overextend your arms.

RE: HOLY COW !!! Check out this rig !!!

I saw a couple of these rigs this summer while going cross country. Both of them were out west. The only difference in the ones that I saw was that they were plain colored (one black and one white) with small lettering on the door of the cab with "Not For Hire." These rigs are solid and mean "business." They're not for the usual casual RV'er! :B

RE: Hair On My Pillow Pain In My Feet

Changin' the oil on my genny. Getting under that thing and lifting my head to see in there is getting just a bit tougher! :E I now use a pillow just for that purpose. Before long, I'll have to take a nap there too. :B

RE: Road Salt Protection and Maintenance ?

This is an excellent topic. Thank you. I try to avoid driving the RT during the winter, especially after snowy or icy conditioned days that required salt being to be put on the roads by the authorities. Usually, I wait 5 or 6 days after the last snow storm and after we have had a heavy rain fall (and dried) to clean the roads before I head out again (for the "exercise run.") Oh, last year, the town that I live in, cut down the use of salt by 50% in the sand mix due to lack of funds and, the roadways seemed to be no worse than before. I imagine this will help lessen the corrosion on our vehicles. Who knows? A couple of weeks ago I had my RT undercarriage inspected by my mechanic that I trust. He told me that the RT it looks great (rust free) - better than most vehicles of that same year 2004. He says don't bother with any treatments and seemed to indicate that they a waste of money. I think it depends on where you live and how much you drive your B in salty road conditions. I try to avoid the beaches too, especially on windy days. (Salt spray from the ocean water). But, this winter I am planning a trip south so I have to watch the weather forecast down the coast to see when the best will be to leave. I'm sure others are in the same boat as I am.

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

Hey Wayne, I noticed the #176. Does that mean you have 176 B pictures on this topic and that you are ahead of any of us? :h

RE: Roof maintence

Ditto My Roadtrek's view about Protectall Fiberglass Oxidation Remover & Color Restorer. Remember not to leave it in your B over the winter like I did the first year. Once it is frozen, it's no good. I use it twice a year (living up north) and wax the roof 4 times a year. The roof looks like new here too. (I bet not as good as My Roadtrek tho...) :B Works great for me.

RE: Class B Snowbirds

omjones & Me&Ma: Thank you for your references. They're helpful. I'm going to save the Glades link so when I go to the Everglades, I can stay there for a few days. My DW & I are not completely sold on the TT idea but it is one of the top choices on our list. The glades resort seems reasonable to me. I've looked at a couple in the Ft. Myers area that are more pricey. The Glades resorts looks nice enough. I'm going to be using the RT this winter for snowbirding & for exploratory purposes. I'm thinking it might be better to just rent a condo for a couple of months each year and use the RT as the primary vehicle to tour FL. I dunno... We will see... Perhaps having a special account for renting the condo and not buying a new TT might be the way to go. There is less hassle with maintenance on the TT, etc IMO. Ron, I plan to head back to the Cape in February. I know January is the coldest month in FL but it sure beats the cold up north! The DW has one more year to work and then we are free to go together when we please. Who knows, maybe I'll change my mind when I see the temps going on up north and just stay in FL. I'll contact you in that case. (My DW will love that!) LOL! I may go either way in my snowbirding plans. :)

RE: Class B Snowbirds

Right after New Years, I'm heading down to the Tampa FL area as a home base to look around in FL for a permanent snowbird spot for future winters. I plan to explore the Everglades, Key West, Naples, Cape Canavarel and other spots from there. My sister lives near Tampa in St. Pete's Beach so there is no added living costs to stay there. We are torn between getting a TT to pull with our RT (to use at RV resorts) or to simply rent a condo and park the B there as our primary vehicle.

RE: Optional armoire for Roadtrek

Here is a post that I added to the same basic topic in january 09. I feel that the stock amoire or wardrobe is quite pricey and I will not pay that kind of money for something I might use just a couple of times a year. The pictures shown in the post may help you save a bit of money. I personally would not buy the amoire or wardrobe you are inquiring about.

RE: You meet the nicest people......

We stopped by Phoenix, AZ (about 45 minutes from Rodger's area I think) on our cross country trip this summer on the way back. (Actually, Scottsdale to visit a cousin.) I thought about sending Rodger a PM but I said to myself, "Nah, he's too busy with the moderator thing and all..."). Shucks. I should have contacted Rodger anyway. I missed a good opportunity there. We will catch him when we go back there in the near future. (My DW wants to do the swing our west again sometime). :B
