RE: lifting superglide from truck

The Harbor Freight option is a great one. I lift it out of the truck, drive out from underneath and lower it onto a furniture dolly (also bought at HF). An hour or so to install and maybe $100 total. Piece of cake.

RE: Question for those with Pullrite Superglide

I use WD40 on the tubes and spray slip plate on the hitch face. Makes it slide under pin easy.

RE: MPG 5TH WHEEL VS TT

I have a 2004 GMC Duramax. When pulling our old 7,000lb 26ft TT, we got around 11 mpg. Pulling our 35ft 12,000lb 5th wheel we are getting about the same. So, I would say all things being equal, you get better mileage with a 5th vs TT. Don't know about slide in, but I've always heard they get the best, but they are also the lightest.
Just my 2 cents.

RE: Anti-sliders

I have a SuperGlide and wouldn't be without it. Where I park my 5er at home, I have to make a turn that is right at 90 degrees and with the slide all the way back (automatically, of course) the camper is about 3 inches from the truck. It would have hit if I didn't have the slider.

RE: Bang for the Buck on TST TPMS

I have the TST system, bought it from their website. I did NOT replace my rubber valve stems and had no problem, but have only used them last season. Probably around 3000 miles or so.
Customer service is second to none.

RE: Cat Scales

Plus, if you time it right, you can weigh, go to your camping spot, unhitch, set up and then return with just your truck and weigh it then. The one we went to has reweigh for no additional charge on the same day.

RE: Diesel Truck-What would you buy?

I love the performance, ride, mileage, and looks of my 2003 Chev D-Max 2500 SRW. It has handled the 10k pound fiver very well for 200,000 miles throu mountains and deserts. I have one big problem with it though. I am about to have to replace the injectors for the third time. The last set only made it 25,000 miles. the repair cost is around $5,000 each time. At that rate I don't think I can afford to remain loyal to GM. I have heard that they have improved in newer ones. Still I would have to factor the injectors into my next truck decision.
Unless you have a chip on the truck, GM will replace the injectors under warranty. My buddy has a 2004 and has had his injectors replaced 4 times, every time under warranty. Check with GM and be firm but nice. They will sometimes replace them even if you're chipped.
And you're right, the newer trucks have vastly improved injectors.

RE: Diesel tv with tuner?

I too, have the Edge tuner. I also wouldn't be without an EGT gauge. My chip can be set to 5 different positions. I get about 2 mpg better with the lower setting which is what is supposed to be for (mpg) empty. I get 11 to 12 towing my 12k 5th wheel.
I can get the EGT alarm to come on if set on the high setting in as little as a quarter mile. With mine, I would need intake mods, tranny mods, exhaust mods, etc to run the high settings. I got mine primarily for a bit better mileage and more power when climbing the hills. It does that in spades.

RE: Diesel Truck-What would you buy?

Congratulations on your new rig. You'll enjoy that Duramax. I currently am getting 18.4 with combined driving on my 2500HD Xt Cab. If I would have bought the 6.0, I would only be getting about 11.5-12.0 combined. This is all no-towing of course. My point is you've bought a BEAST for towing -- Enjoy the feeling when you go by the gassers on long up-hill pulls.
Don't know where you got that information. I have a 2004 GMC 2500 with the 6.0, only 35000 miles on it. I regularly get 23 on highway and 18 around town empty. I'm getting 11 to 12 pulling my 12K 5th wheel, although I only run a tick over 60 most of the time.
Hasn't this thread been fun to read? :B

RE: rooftop satellite dish

Hello,
We just bought a 2013 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite. We have Dish Network at home in the country in Texas. I have been reading all the forums about a satellite for this rig. We are sick of the parks and their cables and it is all fuzzy. Yes, we are missing the football games today and supposedly have cable; however, we have a new Toshiba flat screen...no clear TV!!!! We had a Class C before and had this same problem. Does anyone recommend any Dish product or should we go with this Direct TV Winegard? My wife and I would appreciate an answer as we are frustrated and want to make camping months at a time.
Thanks in advance.
There are Travlers for both Dish and Direct. Go to Winegards web site and check it out. As far as specific reciever, the 211k is excellent.

RE: rooftop satellite dish

When we ordered our new 5th wheel, the Travler was on our must have list. We have Dish, but my understanding is that Direct works the same. I wouldn't be without it! We do carry a spare dish and tripod, but so far have not had to use it for those occasion when trees are in the way.

RE: Satelite TV for Fver

Since you already have the 211k, I agree with the others: get the tailgater. I spent many years lugging around a dish 500 and tripod, using a aiming device and yelling back and forth "is there a signal now". BTW, with only a Dish 500 you are missing a lot of HD TV, if that's your bag.
I now have a Winegard Travler: pretty pricey and a permanent solution, but it sure beats all that "yelling".

RE: Satelite TV for Fver

What system do you have at home (receiver model, dish type, etc)? Do you have anything extra already (dish, signal finder, tripod mount, etc)? Need a little bit more info.

RE: interior led lights

These are what I use for the 1141 lights, but I use the cool white (they are actually bluish in color). Good price and if you use the code: AC15 you get 15% off.

RE: Freestar tire shredded now what

Had my truck tires rotated yesterday at Costco. Asked them to give me a quote on Micheklin Ribs. They said they could only mount them on wheels I brought in, not on the 5th wheel anf there would be no guarantee. Mileage or road hazard. I understand the Mileage issue but no Road Hazard?
I think that's true of almost any LT tire you want to mount up on a 5th wheel. Very few will give road hazard.
As far as mounting, that is also true of most Tire stores. I know that our local Discount Tire store WILL mount tires on 5th wheels. See them there all the time.
Hope that helped some.

RE: generator

Both are good. If you ever want to add a extended run fuel tank choose the Honda. It has a fuel pump so the extended run tank will work. Yamaha does not have a fuel pump so extended run tanks will not work.
You can put an extended tank on the Yamaha, there are kits.
But I agree, either one is a good choice.

RE: Where do fivers put their generators?

An answer to your question needs more info to properly respond. We did a lot of boondocking and always put the generator away a bit from the camper, so as to minimize the noise (I have the Yamaha 2000 and it's really quiet, but ... still). We carried it in the back of the truck.
But if you're in a regular campground, there are lots more to consider. How close to others, what is the theft potential, are the rules about when you can run, etc.
My 2 cents.
