RE: Cover or not to cover

Since the laws haven't changed YET - we still have some personal choice so to each his own :) but IMHE from having a high dollar bra on my last sports car and seeing what the buffeting did to the finish under it... I'll never put anything on my rv - just wash and wax regularly....

RE: Enjoying camping this weekend and...crash!

I chock too if any hint of a slope.... but I too am usually hooked up before I hitch or unhitch ! (with a single marine battery for my jacks, etc.. good to have the truck idling and helping push the jacks, etc... around) jetboater, I'd get the brakes checked as mine will not let me move at all if I grab a handful of manual trailer brake

RE: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal

for those that might be interested: 2013 Ford F-350 Platinum, 6.7 diesel crew cab shortbed single rear wheel with 11,500 gvwr with superglide 18k hitch, ford's truxport roll up bed cover, factory toughbed sprayed bed liner, pkg 618A, moonroof, wheel well liners... (all listed to give you an idea of options weight) cat scales with full 26 gal tank, me. the wife, and the dog: steer 5040 drive 3660 total 8700 - a fat one :) will be adding a rear sway bar today so that should be a bit more... so that leaves me 11500 - 8700 = 2800 carrying capacity.. on edit: Now I need to weigh truck and rv together to see if it is > the 23500 gcwr... or steer axle weight is > FAWR of > 6290 or drive axle weight is > RAWR of > 7180 (7180-3660=3520 if all on backend:)) or total of steer axle + drive axle from scales with rv attached is > 11500 ...

RE: air bags strictly for comfort

In my experience the air bags only leveled the ride... no difference in loaded comfort... and rougher when unloaded, even with only 3 psi in the bags... YRMV I'd say go to the cat scales and weigh everything with and without the rv... then figure out the MINIMUM air pressure you can run in your tires for the load they need to carry... If your truck tires say 3090 @ 80 psi... why run them @ 80 psi if you are only carrying 2000 lbs per tire ? go to the mfg website and find out the load at each 5 psi increment... maybe 70 psi will do it - only soften the tire if you've done your homework though - good luck !

RE: Jealous of the turning radius !

it never took off because..... would YOU really travel in that ? and sleep in that ? If you're honest, I don't think so :)

RE: Double pulling

All those posted sites "may" be out of date.... And anytime you call a DMV office, you "may" get a different answer ! (I KNOW this to be true in Texas !!!!) So it's a challenge for you to find out the truth :)

RE: Towing with new pickup

I went from a 2012 250 ccsb w/ gvwr of 10k to a 13 350 ccsb with a gvwr of 11.5k... I did notice the tailgate is higher on the 350 by 3" or so, but when hooked up it squats down enough to be JUST level and tows like a dream...

RE: Handheld Remote control for awning, rear jacks.slides,etc.?

Our Destiny has it for the front and rear landing gear, the awning, and all four slides - use it about 50% of the time... it's nice when it's the extremes in weather and you can sit inside until the last minute when setting up or shutting down :)

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch-Rails

A slight crushing of the bed ribs can also cause this. Are the spacers in place between the rail and the bed at the bolt locations? I noticed a couple of the spacers slid out from my hitch after a few months.... figured they weren't torqued properly.... need to get under there and check it all... I guess the spacers are mandatory since the bed is ribbed like it is...

RE: Night driving having trouble seeing the wheels when turning

you really shouldn't have to see the tires.... what I did when I first started when hooked up (actually I started doing this before towing so I would get into the habit) always drive the truck to the OUTSIDE of the turn... i.e. if the road turns left , put your front tire as close to the right shoulder as possible which will give you 'swing' room... if u are turning left, drive straight 'through' the intersection and turn at the last possible moment (again more 'swing' room :) if turning right, same principle applies - drive thru the first lane then turn and don't be rushed into a mistake - even so much as taking up more lane to swing ! get the idea ?!? tee hee - so far it's kept me out of trouble ! and the wife's job was to look pretty, read the clearance signs, and remind me to 'swing out' when turning :) good luck....

RE: Fifth wheel slider

Agree - lube it up and once released, do u lock the 5er brakes and pull forward so it will slide? (not that I know as I got a superglide, just heard that was the way :) ) good luck !

RE: Where's the floodlight switch?

Check the title - doesn't if have previous owners listed ?!? (or are you in a state that doesn't require TT titles ?) that does look like a 'scare' light like on the 5th wheels.... maybe photocell operated ?!? does it ever come on ?

RE: What a bummer!!!!!

WOW, have never seen a capture plate like that one --- is that homemade ?!? I have a bolt on capture plate that simply hangs onto the front edge and king pin: like shown in this video

RE: Pin box or airbags?

I must be an odd duck then :) The airbags on our 250 DID handle the bed sagging and the 5er, but even at 5 psi, it seemed to ride rougher ?!? The new 350 seems to ride better unloaded than the 250, only did a short test run with the 5er the other day,but it seemed fine... maybe Ford did something between 2012 250's and the 2013 350's - same cc sb, engine combo... dunno ?!?

RE: Need a new tailgate

Check around for shops that put flat beds on the pickups... they have take offs... good luck...

RE: Front to rear Porpoising

You stated shocks set at 9 ? seems that would stiffen it up too much imho... I always towed at around 6 when I had mine. curious to the solution on this one as my trailair seems to do all the bobbing and weaving and we don't feel it in the truck... but the dealer did have to adjust the pin box to level it out...

RE: Slide within a Slide Fifth Wheel

It just doubles the chance of splitting your head open when getting something out of the side compartment. :B:Z

RE: Opinions wanted.

My simple mind looks at the MAX gvwr for the 5.0 as 13,900 and his trailer ALONE is over that once loaded... guess the truck weighs nothing :) - must have helium in the tires !

RE: Leaving 5th Wheel Hitch Hanging on Kingpin

Just called pullrite about my superglide and they concurred - Much more stress on it going down the road then just hanging there.... and the more I think about it - when I hit a bump in the road that's 15k lbs trying to JUMP out of the bed leveraging on the little pin... would think the 325 lbs of static load from the hitch hanging on it would be of little consequence :)

RE: Superglide killed my inner child! Slider or Sidewinder?

The manual portion which was posted clearly says WD 40 is NOT sufficient. That may be true for older hitches.... and what year manual was posted ? I just called pullrite and they say any of their superglides mfg from 2009 on should use wd-40 only. that's the beauty of our country, I can use what I want and you can use what you want... no matter HOW wrong you are :) :) :) just kidding... (but I am right for MY hitch!)
