RE: Nerve biopsy for neuropathy

As of right now my Dr is only talking about doing the biopsy I'm still waiting to hear from him again as he was still looking into things all I'm doing is research on the nerve biopsy. There several neuropathies and there is also diabetic neuropathies. Mine is not diabetic but the dr's are still trying to figure out what type I have or types I may have. The nerve biopsy is the next step in my testing. I'll let you know what happens once my Dr tells me what he plans on doing thanks everyone. Try this link for some different neuropathies, i.., CIDP/CIP/GBS - http://www.gbs-cidp.org/ Especially register in the forum.

RE: Convert MSW Document with Images to PDF

Google "Open Office" and go to that website. You download/install the OpenOffice Suite (Word/Text Processor, Spreadsheet Program, Database, and Presentation Program) that is FREE!!!! And I might add as a retired programmer, a whole lot better, less Buggier, and all MicroCrap file formats compatible, plus a set of file formats that are "Open", i.e., not proprietary, annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd you can create, edit, and save in PDF formats. As an added bonus, the website also offers (FREE AGAIN), a better Browser and email program than MicroCrap (Mozilla & FireFox). I use and highly recommend the OpenOffice Suite.

RE: Nerve biopsy for neuropathy

I was recently diagnosed with CIDP (2/1/213) Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy s an acquired immune-mediated inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nervous system. The disorder is sometimes called chronic relapsing polyneuropathy or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (because it involves the nerve roots).CIDP is closely related to Guillain-Barré syndrome and it is considered the chronic counterpart of that acute disease. I was wheeled in to our local hospital in an ambulance unable to move. They performed a spinal tap to initially perform the diagnosis. I was transported to Swedish Cherry Hill in Seattle where Neuro specialist performed a "Nerve Test" of my legs and arms. They did it with electric probs and stimulations. Spent the time up and until last week rehabbing there and I am somewhat mobile arounnd the house and yard and into and out of our Ford Explorer with a combo wheelchair and walker. I will continue with my rehab at home with a "Goal" in mind for late September/October, and that is to be able (even with a cane and possible right ankle brace) walk up the steps in the 40 foot DP Safari Serengeti, fire it up, and motor on down the Interstates terrorizing Prius's. ;)

RE: Towing a 2001 Jetta

Yep!!! FYI Signature, all roadmaster setup, no problems, took expert 6 hrs to install baseplates, not an easy task.

RE: Where to go in Washington State?

Tour the Olympic Peninsula, Hwy 101 loop. Just 12 miles west of Port Angeles on State Hwy 112 is a Clallam County Park called Salt Creek, a gem with the very best views of the Strait of Juan DeFuca at the narrowest part to Vancouver Island. Watch the ships go by.

RE: 08 ford explorer tow toad

I don't think so, I believe only 4 wheel drives with the Ford Neutral Tow kits can be TOAD'ed.

RE: SATELLITE RADIO ANTENNA

My 1997 Safari has a fiberglass roof and I do NOT like to drill it for any reason. Also replaced the old radio and added as Sirius tuner. I tried the Puck Antenna on the dash bvut that was poor at best and a lot of reception cut outs. Somebody suggested I try the puck up on top of the front cap cabinets between them and the actual roof. Works Great.

Satellite Dome Replacement

Satellite Dome Replacement Currently we have a King-Dome 9702 Satellite Dome Antenna set up to receive DirecTV Standard Definition (SD) TV signals in our motorhome. It has performed quite well for the last 3 years, finding the 101 satellite fairly quickly. But lately, finding the 101 satellite fails and takes quite a bit of time in the failure. By accident, I discovered that it seems to switch what satellite it is looking for. Then I have to monkey with the satellite selector switch, again another pain. So I am considering replacing the King-Dome 9702 with either a King-Dome 9762 or a Winegard Trav’ler SK-3005. I want to stay with the existing Samsung Standard Definition Satellite receivers (S-70 & S-303) because I “own” them and do not want to lease anything from DirecTV or expensive HD receivers. I know the 9762 is compatible with standard definition so that is a plus but my current problems with the 9702 is a minus. I know the SK-3005 looks for and finds 3 different satellites automatically (a big plus) and one of them is the 101 satellite (another plus). What I do not know is whether or not the SK-3005 can receive Standard Definition signals and is compatible with my Samsung Standard Definition receivers. And if I read the advertisement correctly, it says on the SK-3005 dish that it is a “Slim Line” antenna, yet another, is it compatible with my Samsung SD Receivers. Can owners of the SK-3005 give me some clarification on my lack of knowledge regarding Standard Definition and Samsung Receivers compatibility?

RE: When Will I Learn!?!?!

Just curious was your 2004 Ford Explorer an automatic? also I am going to get set up for towing. Is there a 55 speed limit while towing and do you have to stop every 200 miles to start the car. The reason why I ask is I have a friend that just bought a Grand Vitara and that is what they have to do. If and how a particular vehicle is "TOAD'ed" depends on that manufacturer. Check the Motorhome tow guides for any requirements.

When Will I Learn!?!?!

Well we finally got a new to us TOAD and started to get it all setup for TOAD'ing. And since it is a 2004 Exploder 4x4, I had to swallow hard and fork over $249 for the Neutral Tow Kit (Instructions & a $1.95 LED Light). Had to wait for two weeks for it to be shipped to the hinterlands of the Olympic Peninsula. It finally came in so I scheduled an appointment to get it installed. Had it installed and like a country bumkin, paid another $60 to have it installed. And like a dummy didn't "Test It" at the Ford Stealership, just motored on home assuming it was good to Toad. Spin forward a couple of weeks after the Roadmaster stuff was installed (by a Good RV Co.) so I thought, Gee I probably should test that Neutral Tow Thingie. Well, after the 4th try with that $1.95 LED not winking at me like it should, I decided to put the Stealership on the hot seat. Arrived at the Ford Stealership, 'Splained what WASN'T happening and that idiot service writer sez, "well it's obivious you don't have it hooked up to the motorhome." So in a very polite manner, I abruptly 'Splained to him, the Neutral Tow System was completely apart with the Motorhome Light & Socket taillight setup. Really had to get huffy with him and he finally agreed to hook it up to his diagnostic machine (Computer). About 20 minutes later he is waving my keys at me. So I went over and asked what was the problem so which he said, "It Was Not Enabled." So again in a very polite manner I informed him that my working career started out as a computer programmer all the way back to the late 1950's so I do know how EPROM Programming works, you type in all the instructions and then it asks you, Do You Want To Enable what you entered to which you reply in the affirmative which his idiot Tech Probably forgot to do. Doesn't any of these Young & Dumbs take any pride in their workmanship???

RE: Neutral Tow Switch

Had one from Ford Accessories install by the local Ford Stealership a couple of weeks ago in a new to us 2004 Exploder Limited V8. One item of note, if you do it, test it before you leave the Stealership. I did not and two weeks later, tried/tested it and NO GO. Had to argue tooth and toenail that it was something they did wrong. Turned out it was something they did NOT do, i.e., ENABLE the EPROM Programming. They entered the code but did NOT enable it -- Doofus's.

RE: Direct TV Receivers, can anyone use them?

Pretty sure if they are older units that do not have a IRD# on the back they are worthless as Directv will not let them be reactivated, even with a new card. That's an RID (Receiver Identification) number in addition to the reciever serial number. Directv's new policy is no RID to connection. Plus they will in all likelyhood require your to buy a new access card @ $25.
JohnQ 09/09/12 12:34pm Technology Corner
RE: Using owned receivers with Direct TV

If the SD Receivers have an RID number, they will activate them. If the receiver does not have an access card, DirecTV will require you buy an access card for $20 or $25. Their recent policy of refusing non-RID receivers cannot be budged. In the last couple of years I have activated two Samsung SIR S300 receivers with Virgin Receiver Cards, i.e., they were brand new never installed recievers being sold (eBay) by an authorized Directv reseller/installer. In both cases I had to get a bit huffy with the Customer Service Rep (CSR) and demand to speak to a supervisor. The Supervisor apologized and told me the CSR's are mostly new and have never dealt with "Owned" recievers. The CSR's insisted that DirecTV owned all satellite equipment and that I was leasing said recievers. You just have to be firm and insist on a supervisor. For all things satellite TV & Radio, go to WWW.DBSTalk.com

RE: 87 Ford Bronco II

87 Ford Bronco II, auto trans, manual transfer case, manual front hubs, I'm wanting to flat tow, my owners manual says I can up to 55MPH. Remco says I can not without a drive shaft disconnect. Who is right? Anybody have any experience with this model. If the transfer case is in nuetral, it should be OK, right? Transfer Case in neutral and you are good to go. Remco is just trying to make a sale.

RE: Canadian border

No place like that along the border in Washington either. Yep there is!!! In Port Angeles area there are a lot of good RV Spots, and you can even park your RV in the city parking lot a block from either the Coho Ferry or the Foot Ferry. Go across the Strait of Juan DeFuca on either Ferry to Victoria, BC and visit. In Victoria there is good public transportation from those cute little Harbor Tugs, to Buses, Tour Buses, and even Horse and Carriages.

RE: Hadley air horn help.

My Hadley Air Horn Problem (s) are just the opposite. My compressor provides air to the tank which services the Air Horns, Step Slide Cover (air operated), and the PAC Brake. I found the problem when both the step slide cover and air horns would not operate but the PAC Brake was OK. On my Safari 12 vds electrical distribution bay it listed 2 15 amp fuses that were labled air horn, so I changed both. The PAC Brake still works fine and the step slide cover now works but the air horns are still inop. That leads me to conclude that I have a faulty Air Horn solenoid based upon the Hadley website diagrams. The problem is that I have No Idea where the solenoid is located.

RE: Need some advice for Olympic Penninsula, WA

Since I live in the Freshwater Bay area next door to Salt Creek Clallam County park, I have to recommend it. I do not believe you have to have reservations. As for a good seafood place, a little cafe in the Boat Haven in Port Angeles called Fisherman's Wharf is very good and at a reasonable price.
