RE: 460 or 454

Years ago ,when I worked for the telephone company I got a new '95 bucket truck ,GMC ,had the 454, 4 speed auto w/OD, weighed about 10k lbs. I averaged 8 mpg and the Ford turbo diesel bucket trucks would beat me in a drag race but it was pretty much trouble free for the 4 years that I had it.

RE: RV Steps

If , eventually , you determine that the motor is shot , a motor from a ford taurus or crown vic power window is the EXACT replacement and can be bought on the internet for about $30

RE: How hard was it for you to decide to retire?

If you are honest with yourself with your financial position, meaning that if you are just getting by on your regular pay, there's no way in hell you will live on say, half to two thirds of it. Do it!! It's a great life

2007 forest river Sunseeker 3100

A friend of mine just bought this coach used. It's on a Ford chassis. But nowhere does it say V 10 and it looks like (from the shifter PRND21) it doesn't have the newer 5 speed automatic trans. Which engine and trans comes with this Class C. It even has manual steps.

RE: You ever stay in a Walmart parking lot?

Sure!!! If my trip is over 200 miles ,I go and drive to the WalMart that's about 40 miles away from the campground. Stay over. Get up, have breakfast and drive to the campground so I have the whole day there.

RE: Saving $20K not buying at Lazy Days

When I went to Lazy days a few years ago to buy a used coach, they were nice ,gave me and my family lunch, had my kids swim in their pool while I shopped for an RV. And if they were just a little higher than the next guy ,I would've bought there. But they were a lot higher. I.E. they wanted $38k for a similar coach that I bought elsewhere for $31k. And the one I bought was cleaner and had 25k fewer miles.

RE: HELP!! Hail Damage and Wood Rot Claim

Rot DOES take a while. I noticed a leak in my motorhome about 2 years ago. I thought I fixed it when I found some bubbles on the roof sealant. a couple of rainstorms later, another leak. Eventuall the roof started to rise up with de-lamination. I cut a 4' by 6' section of the rubber roof off and found ten square feet of rotted roof. I patched it with 1/4" luan, glued on anew piece of EPDM w/ eternabond double stick on the edges and lap sealant. As for the last 3 months....dry as the proverbial bone.

RE: Leveling Jacks Alarm

Try checking the hydraulic oil in the reservoir. If the oil level is down ,the system assumes the jacks are down and the alarm sounds,

Otter Lake Campground in Marshall's Creek Pa.

I've got a like /hate feeling about this place. It's a nice clean park with 2 pools and a lake and many sites are very spacious...BUT!!!some of the staff is either ignorant and/or nasty. If a friend wants to stop by for a cup of coffee ,they charge $16 if they stay more than an hour. If a visitor arrives at ,say. 8:00PM and leaves the next morning, they consider that TWO DAYS and charge double. They don't allow bike riding after dark ,so my son and his friend parked their bikes by the side of the road and walked to the playroom. the park security actually THREW THEIR BIKES INTO THE WOODS!! So if you ever decide to go there ....be prepared.

RE: Dolphin handling question

I also have a '99 National RV (SeaBreeze) V 10..... DEFINITELY better than the 460. Gas mileage mid 9s versus mid 7s. Handles better too. Ride is a little stiff though

RE: Tires - Age vs. Condition

My '99 33ft Class A with 34k miles has 4 of the original tires (all on the rear) They show no dry rot or cracking. I'll THINK about changing them in a year or two. BTW...Don Don why don't you REALLY be safe and change them every three years.....then sell 'em to me.

RE: Pocono Vacation Park, Stroudsburg PA

If you're going to be near Stroudsburg, try Otter lake Campground in Marshall's Creek. Big pool w/ 9' section and a diving board, an indoor pool and a great lake for fishin' or swimmin'. About $46 /nite + extra for kids. They only will take a reservation for 4 or more days or take a chance and call at the last minute.

RE: Campground near Woodstock (Bethel NY)

The nearest campgrounds I know of are about 14 miles from Monticello and monticello is about 8 miles from Bethel. They are Yogi Bear's Jellystone at Birchwood acres and a couple of miles down the road from them is Skyway camping resort. Last week I drove thru both of them to check 'em out. They seem nice enough places with pools and friendly people BUT...IMHO ,they're both overpriced at about $65 a night.

RE: Cost of new carpet?

I was thinking about replacing my carpet in my '99 Class a but someone on this forum showed how he dyed his existing carpet. I did it too. Mine was light blue and faded. I used RIT clothes dye ,Royal Blue, mixed it at about 5 envelopes per gallon of hot water. Put it in a spray bottle , sprayed the carpet wet and brushed it in with a stiff brush. Mask off other materials but it will wipe right off hard stuff . Can't say it looks new BUT!! it looks 10 times better than it did. There wwere photos on this forum from the guy I learned it from.
