RE: Pocono Vacation Park, Stroudsburg PA

If you're going to be near Stroudsburg, try Otter lake Campground in Marshall's Creek. Big pool w/ 9' section and a diving board, an indoor pool and a great lake for fishin' or swimmin'. About $46 /nite + extra for kids. They only will take a reservation for 4 or more days or take a chance and call at the last minute.

RE: Campground near Woodstock (Bethel NY)

The nearest campgrounds I know of are about 14 miles from Monticello and monticello is about 8 miles from Bethel. They are Yogi Bear's Jellystone at Birchwood acres and a couple of miles down the road from them is Skyway camping resort. Last week I drove thru both of them to check 'em out. They seem nice enough places with pools and friendly people BUT...IMHO ,they're both overpriced at about $65 a night.

RE: Cost of new carpet?

I was thinking about replacing my carpet in my '99 Class a but someone on this forum showed how he dyed his existing carpet. I did it too. Mine was light blue and faded. I used RIT clothes dye ,Royal Blue, mixed it at about 5 envelopes per gallon of hot water. Put it in a spray bottle , sprayed the carpet wet and brushed it in with a stiff brush. Mask off other materials but it will wipe right off hard stuff . Can't say it looks new BUT!! it looks 10 times better than it did. There wwere photos on this forum from the guy I learned it from.

RE: Traveling with a motor scooter

I agree with Yaz . I too have a Honda Helix. I carry it on a VersaHaul rack that goes into the receiver hitch. It's a 250 cc that can hit about 70 mph, gets about 70 mpg and costs me about $100 a year for insurance. It has a trunk that can carry 3 bags of groceries. I put a milk crate on the luggage rack and I can carry 3 more bags.

RE: Intermittent starter problems with Ford

My '99 Ford did EXACTLY the same thing. I took out the solenoid/relay mounted on the radiator support. It has two very heavy wires and one small wire. I took it out and it tested fine. Put it back in ,same problem. FINALLY I replaced it (about $30) Never a problem since. I drilled out the rivets in the unit to see the insides. The contacts were burned and black,. It tested fine but probably couldn't handle the load.

RE: Cleaning the carpet on ceiling

I have a light ivory carpetted ceiling. Once in a while ,when I had a tiny leak the ceiling would get black, probably from mildew. I mixed up one part clorox bleach with about 4 or 5 parts water, put it in a spray bottle, spray the ceiling and about an hour later....Good as New!! Done it many times with no adverse effect on the material.

RE: New York City area camping

Which ever you choose, Don't even think of driving your rig anywhere near NYCity, or the outer borroughs. You will inevitably have to cross a few bridges , the traffic ,ANY TIME OF DAY, is horrendous. All of the major highways are individually designated for commercial (your RV) or passenger cars. The poor road conditions (potholes ,construction debris)will kill your vehicle. Don't even try to pass thru on the outskirts. Stay far away and go back from wence you came.Other than that...Have a good time!

RE: F-53 owners V10 breaking header bolts

I got a '99 V10 with none of those problems. But my old F150 5.4 V8 blew a spark plug coil (only one) at 76,000 miles and my Ford Escape blew one at 96,000 miles. They're about $90 each.

RE: Kwikee step won't retract

My Kwikee steps did the same thing. The motor was shot. Take it out and compare it to ones you'll find on the internet . Ford Power window motors . I got a brand new one for under $30 just the electrical connector was different ,easy fix.

RE: Do they all leak?

My '99 leaked in a few places but it all came in arouind a bad job the previous owner did in installing a fantastic fan. Once I repaired the roof seam and replaced the sewer vent it's been dry as the proverbial bone.

RE: Traveling without a Toad?

I take a 250 cc Honda Helix scooter on a VersaHaul rack.Adds less than 3 ft to the length of the RV. It can hold two people and 5 bags of groceries with it's trunk and backrack.

RE: GPS Recommendations?

Stay away from the GPS that they sell on QVC, I forget the name but it was about $125. The sound quality was terrible and didn't always correct you when a fork in the road was approaching.

RE: Bringing friends on trip. What about liability?

What a pitiful question. Would anyone have asked such a thing 30 years ago? As a kid I rode on the tailgate of a friends station wagon and if I fell off, my father would kick my ass ,not think of sueing someone.

RE: F53 OWNERS - Tips & Suggestions

Back to the parking break thing...After i read here how to check it ,I went outside and opened the filler and, just like many of you, some oil spilled out. I closed it and went inside and now the parking brake pedal goes close to the floor before engaging. Sooooo, I went under the coach again ,removed the cable's cotter pin and took up some of the cable's slack,(about four turns). Now all seems to work perfectly.

Why no wait till you have a problem before you attempt to fix it. No use locking the barn door if no one wants your horse.
