RE: Need aux brake advice

We are getting our Class A and toad outfitted to pull 4 down. We will be pulling a 2010 Chevy Equinox weighing approximately 3800 lbs.
Our installing dealer advises against an auxiliary braking system since they know of some instances (gave me names) where the brake locked up and it did major damage. Their argument is that unless we are going into Canada, for instance, the MH can handle 3800 lbs.
Even though I like my dealer, I would like to hear from some of you about this. Have you had that happen to you or do you know of someone it has happened to? Do I really need to go through the expense or installing a braking system? If so, what do you recommend and about what should I expect to pay?
I notice there is another question concerning brakes that was just posted, but it does not really answer the question I have asked here.
Thanks for your help. You are a great resource of knowledge to me.

RE: Winter mix in diesel fuel

When do they start putting winter mix in diesel fuel. Is this something that is done from the distributor. In other words will all stations have the winter mix or is it ordered specifically by the truck stop or fueling station?
Thanks for any information.
BassMan
Folks this is the topic of this thread..
The best I can tell whether the fuel station will have winter mix is determined by location. In our location winter mix is generally available as early as mid November or as late as Mid December...
We own and operate a Farm and have an order in for 600 gallons of winter mix but as of today it has not been delivered.
Your best best is to ask your fueling station what they are pumping. In my case I always add Howes to my motorhome fuel tank about this time of year. Stanadyne is also a good product as is the FPPF family of products which we use in our farm tanks and machinery.

RE: Possibly the first full wall dual slide motorhome

Interesting video... The dual wall slide and roof extension looked really well engineered based on on smoothly they seem to open...
Makes one wonder why it took so long for the idea to resurface in modern RV's...
I have been to the RV Museum in Elkhart and do not recall any mention or hint of slides from that era even though they have RV's dated from back then.

RE: Rank the Class A GAS build quality

I enjoyed reading the comments in another thread regarding the realtive quality of Class A diesel coaches. Now I wonder if anyone would care to comment on the rankings of Class A gas units, for those of us who can't afford diesels.
This is the thread topic... I have gone through the thread and removed posts that have nothing to do with the thread topic...
The Fleetwood Southwind and Pace Arrow, the Tiffin Allegro, and the Newmar Mountain Aire are ones that I am familar with... I think the Southwind offered the best value, the Pace Arrow offered additional amenities. The Allegro is also a good value and offers the best after sales support. The Newmar Mountain Aire would be the high end in terms of build quality and amenities.
I think Rexhall is a well built unit but their dealer support in almost non existent but I like their motorhomes.
Coachman has many loyal followers including a friend of mine.
Frankly I have not seen a significant difference in the build quality at each price segment. What seems to be different is after sales support, available floor plans and amenities.

RE: Question for Class A owners with slides

All of you folks who own coaches with slides, especially quad slides. When underway would you rather have slides or no slides...or does it not make any difference? Also, what are your reasons?
There are parkers and drivers.. We fall in the driver category This year we will log over 20,000 miles on the road so the usability and livability with slides in was a factor in our selection of floor plan.
Our floor plan was available in 2, 3, or 4 slide versions. We opted for the two slide version with the slides on one side of the coach the drivers side.
Our choice was a no compromise on the patio side so the awning was not compromised nor was our space under the awning compromised. This decision also allowed us to have bus styled basement doors for maximum access.
With the slides in we can cook, bathe and sleep and have access to all essential areas . We even can do our laundry.
The only compromise with the slide in is that should the lure of going to the bathroom strike me in the middle of the night with the slides in I will have to quietly crawl over my beloved snoring wife:)
Our current floor plan is perfect for us... But I would add a third slide in the bedroom to allow for extra room when parked.
In terms of the forth slide in the living area... I am not sure I would go that way since the number of times where the extra 18 inches would make a difference is small.
