RE: 1997 Ford Chassis (F53) running hot?

If your '97 is like mine, there is a coolant overflow tank hidden behind a bunch of stuff on the extreme left side of the engine compartment forward of the firewall. It took me quite a while to locate the tank, so I drove around (ignorantly) about 3/4 of a gallon short of coolant. The clue that led me to find the tank was a lack of cabin heat when the weather got cold. My tank requires a flashlight and inspection mirror just to see the coolant level...and a length of hose attached to a funnel (hanging on the wideshield wiper) to fill. Your radiator has a regular filler neck on the front of the radiator, but filling from that point doesn't top off the system properly. I would check out your rig's overflow location and check the coolant quantity just to be sure. It's also a cheap thing to do before you dig into the wallet...

RE: Droping an F53 fuel tank?

Yep, the generator fuel line comes out of the tank right next to the engine line. You'll need one of those gee-whiz tools to remove them from the pump. I got mine at Auto Nation for less than $10.

RE: Droping an F53 fuel tank?

The fuel lines and connectors are on the top of the tank (in the center). There's enough slack in those lines to allow the tank to drop to the ground. The problem will be the filler tube and associa. ted vent tube. Those run out the side of the tank. If your is like mine, not only do these tubes come out of the side, but they go through a hole in the frame rail, meaning they have to be disconnected in order for the tank to have clearance to drop. Be prepared for several steel clamps holding the vent hoses in place that are twisted around to an inaccessible direction. Evidently they were installed during chassis assemble and then the coach was added, thus blocking access. Mine is a 97 HR Vacationer...so yours might vary somewhat.

RE: Flexsteel Sofa Jack knife bed

Last time we dropped a belt down the hole, I used a custom made, hand bent wire coathangar to snag the wayward strap. What amazes me is how much other "stuff" can accumulate under there.

RE: Cleaning rear curtains

If they need a heavier cleaning, we remove the blinds and soak them in the bathtub using an Oxi-clean solution. Just make sure you get them rinsed thoroughly...

RE: Ocean view RV parks between Tillamook and Astoria OR

Some of the sites at Netarts Bay RV Park have views of Netarts Bay and the ocean in the distance. The park is near Tillamook and all the activities in that area...

RE: Sights to see between Sioux Falls and Rapid City, SD

X2 for the car museum in Murdo. I also recommend the aircraft museum at Ellsworth Air Base, between Rapid City and Wall

RE: I'm missing something.....?

Since your rig was in storage for a long time, you might consider checking the battery voltage. If it gets below a certain point (around 10v or so), the heater control board won't work. You'll still have some lights and such, but the voltage is too low for the furnace...

RE: f53 fuel pump

The in-tank pump is located at the center of the tank. It's fairly tall (same height as the tank), so you'll need that much room above the tank to remove/reinstall a pump. You'll also have to deal with the Ford quick disconnects on the fuel lines (a two handed operation) and some wiring issues. If you do some detailed scouting, you'll find that there are only 6 fasteners holding the tank in place. Two belly bands across the tank from frame rail to frame rail, and one bolt at each end to frame cross members. A little siphoning to reduce tank weight and you should be able to drop one end of it enough to give you the necessary working room. I used a couple of floor jacks and a bunch of 2x wooden blocks to lower mine. I think you can figure on about four hours in and out...unless you take lots of breaks. A helper makes the process go smoother, too.
