RE: Can't get my electric jacks to work!

Touch the two prongs of the Atwood Jack wire to the contacts circled in Red. Reverse wires to change direction of jack. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z127/JumboJet1949/2011%20Lance%201050S/dewalt_zps391b9969.jpg height=640 width=480

RE: Can't get my electric jacks to work!

Instead of manually cranking the jacks, get yourself a 14 volt Dewalt cordless tool battery (or equivalent), unplug the jack cable from the camper and touch it to the contacts on the battery. You can raise and lower the jacks one at a time using this method. I have.

RE: Swan Song

A Four month 11,481 mile trip report. This will most likely be my last trip report so here goes. So ends a chapter in my life, having had my camper and truck for 10 years they are getting long in the tooth and so will be sold. Travel is still something we love but airplanes and hotels will see more of me in the future. RV net has been a hoot and meeting so many fine TCers at the Overland expo was fun. Don't forget there are bed bugs in the hotels .................

RE: The Emotions in a TC

I test drove a 38' Class A diesel pusher. I would buy it in a second. Wife thinks it is too big. We travel every chance we get. I like the room!

Programming Wireless Atwood Remote Control

During the storm last Friday in Oklahoma City area, my wireless remote went on the blink. Even with the wire attached, not all the buttons and functions would work. I was parked in a hotel parking lot to ride out the storm and decided to put my jacks down to stabilize the camper. It was rocking a lot from the 50 mph gusts. The green light for the jacks would light, but I could not switch to the amber light for the slideout. The left front jack would retract but not extend. All other buttons and functions worked wireless or wired. Eventually, even the green light would not come on, but the jack controls would all work except for extending the left front or operating the slide-out. I ordered a replacement remote control and it arrived today. Here are the steps to program the remote: 1. Push the Wake button on the panel inside the TC 2. Push the Power On button on the remote 3. Push and Hold the Wake button for 10 seconds and the Red light will begin to flash on/off rapidly. 4. Push a jack control button, listen for feedback, and you should be all done. 5. Test all functions. Worked for me!

RE: Using your truck camper jacks

Here is a trick I learned while purchasing my Lance w/Atwood jacks. The Lance was sitting on the dealer's lot with NO BATTERY. The technician brought out a Dewalt cordless drill 14 volt battery, unplugged each jack from the camper, and raised the jacks with the Dewalt battery. Just this weekend, my wireless/or wired Atwood remote control flaked out. The left front down button would not work. The slide extend/retract mode button would not work. I cranked the slide in/out but used my Dewalt battery to lower that one jack while my son used the remote with the 3 operable buttons so I could unload my camper. I ordered a new remote Sunday that should be delivered tomorrow.

RE: Hoses

I had a flat hose one time. It got real dirty and I don't like real dirty. DO NOT clean one of those flat type hoses with bleach.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Loaded it up for a trip to Moore, OK. Will be cooking for relief workers or whoever shows up to eat as one of 3 teams that will be there. We had to stop short of OKC Friday night. We did an overnight in Seminole. No hotel/motel rooms for the other 3 people that went with us. Heavy rain, small hail, and high winds sat upon us almost all night. We made it to our location in Moore and served 6,500 steak and chicken sandwiches on Saturday. We served another 1,000 this morning and have made it safely back home. The destruction is totally amazing. TV pictures do not do justice to actually being there. It is a miracle that only 24 people died during that storm. The much smaller tornadoes Friday night killed 9 people and warnings were being broadcast two days before. A storm chaser, his son, and friend all died Friday night. Thanks for all your thoughts.

RE: Using your truck camper jacks

We have had 30-35 mph winds lately. I unloaded on a level concrete pad and had no problems, but the whole process did make me 'think'. I added my stand underneath the camper that allows it to be lowered to 2' above the pad. The stand provides stability. Before lowering on to the stand, the wind was rocking the TC on the jacks - not much, but you see and hear the action.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

the ones you have a chance to leak(they are two peace, base and lens). lenses crack and leak. check them out closely. mine were full of water and leaked back in to the camper. I replace all the running lights with solid molded LED lenses. no leaks going on now. Exactly! Repaired a Lance 820 last year that all the damage was caused by leaking clearance lights. I bought 2 to replace the clearance lights on my Lance 1050S after seeing that mess!

RE: Cold vs. hot tire pressure

Alright all you critics ;) ALL I was posting was that now that I did the mod on my truck to show tire pressure on the dash (truck did not come that way), I was made aware of the psi increase in the tires. Before this I would increase tire pressure once the camper was loaded then not check it for the rest of the trip. Does anyone here check their pressure on a 3-4 day trip? I didn't. Sheesh! :B We appreciate your post. The responses provided education for some people. What is a 3-4 day trip? Mine turn into 14-16 days trips. I noticed one tire looking different from the others when I was in Maine a few years ago. I checked them all then. I had a leak that had to be repaired.

RE: Cold vs. hot tire pressure

I carry 95 PSI cold in my tires. I live at 1,300 ft. elevation. Imagine my surprise when I checked the air pressure in Aspen, CO after driving several hours. I did not worry then and I do not worry now. Except for the stiff ride, I wonder why people don't just set the tires to the Max pressure and roll on down the road. Now I do watch for the tire wear signs of over or under pressure.

RE: Tie Downs

A couple weeks ago i got a set of "Fast Guns"tie downs. Read my last post in the Stolen Camper thread. Joe Location and situation increased the probability of what you experienced. My TC stays at my house. My Fastguns hang unlocked on the side of my TC when in storage. My door to my TC stays unlocked. Maybe it is the bullet holes in the targets on display that keep people from stealing from me. Or maybe they were contemplating their Fastgun theft when they heard the rapid fire of the AR-15 or 9MM Beretta. Still, my question is, how many people have had their Fastguns or Derringers stolen? While camping? While parked at a store such as a Wal-Mart? Etc.? There is someone lurking out there just waiting to catch my TC somewhere so they can steal my Fastguns and make a true believer out of Jumbojet!

RE: Tie Downs

Make sure you get a set of locks for them, so they won't wander off when you are away from your rig. Easy for the owner to use, but also easy to remove, very quickly. Has this really been a problem? Would everyone that has had a set of Fastguns or Derringers stolen please chime in. Thanks

RE: Tie Downs

Get yourself some anti-seize and coat the threads 'just in case' you ever need to make a minor adjustment. Don't ask me how I know.

RE: Pyrometer and diesel trucks

Even with a stock setup you can exceed your recommended egt in mountain passes. Shifting down will lower the egt, but raise the auto tranny temp. I also wait for the egt to drop down to about 300 before shutting down. My 2008 CTD is stock and I have EGT/Boost/Tranny gauges. I have pulled heavy from coast to coast and border to border and my EGTs have never ever gone over 1250. One of the things I use the gauges for is to monitor fuel efficiency. The higher the boost, the more fuel that is being burned. Much like the vacuum gauges on the 1966 Chevrolet Impala.

RE: 3.42 or 4.10?

5th and 6th gear are both OverDrive gears. I tow heavy in 5th gear with my 3.73 gear and taller tires which essentially makes my gear 3.42.
