RE: Factory brake controller question???

Mine stops the trailer great on level 3. Your trailer brakes may need to be adjusted.

RE: Full Synthetic or Synthetic Blend

Unless you live where there are EXTREME cold or hot temps,or are going to run extended drain intervals, synthetic is a waste of money.

RE: Equilizer hitch needed on 3500?

Your truck will handle better with a W/D hitch.
I'm not sure I buy into the easier to not use them theory either. Whats it take to snap a couple bars in place? 30 seconds?

RE: Might be forced to buy Diesel

I do live in Florida and 90% of where we camp are in flat areas but we usually take a long trip once a year out of state.
So buy a gas truck and on that once yearly trip, drive a little slower if needed.

RE: air?

Word of caution:
I recommend that tires should be inflated such that there is a 15% reserve (unused) load carrying capacity. Safety first.
Thats what I do. Enough air to carry the load, then a few more PSI for some reserve.

RE: Firestone Airbags 2013 Silverado

Have you considered Timbrin's? They are another option to look at, and no worries about air leaks.
I have Timbrens on my 2011. No change in ride and they work as well as the air bags I had on my last truck.

RE: Replacement tires 20 inch

I know this isn't your size, but it is a very good road test of the Hankook DynaPro ATm by a major magazine. Four Wheeler test report.
I've got 18,000 on my ATM RF10s. The majority of those miles are towing either an 11,000lb fifth wheel or a 10,000lb boat.
Just checked and three tires have 11/32" of tread and one has 12/32".
I've been very happy with the tires. They don't take much weight to balance, and have had excellent traction on and off-road.

RE: Need Good Advice on a TV (which make & is stick ok?)

You need to realize that the manual in the Ram isn't what you'll find in a sports car. They have a long throw and are slow shifting, especially with a big trailer behind them. If you want to play boy racer you'll be disappointed.
Once you're rolling there isn't much shifting involved. In my '07 Ram,even towing my fifth wheel,I could be in 5th gear from 25mph to 70.

RE: Another Air Filter Question

Waste of money. Factory intakes generally flow more than the engine can use. At 32K miles, the engine is broken in.

RE: New tire Suggestions?

If you like Michelins, get their LTX AT/2
Its Michelins all terrain tire. Not very aggressive by all terrain standards, but should work well on the highway and give you more bit when needed.

RE: Bio diesel question

Most every station in my neck of the woods sells B5 as opposed to straight diesel. In almost 5 years with my '07 CTD I never found water in the fuel while draining or changing the fuel filter.
My truck was probably filled with B5 80% of the time.

RE: Bio diesel question

Bio diesel is the best lubricity additive you can run in your diesel.

RE: Why does the market demand Diesel??

Not many gassers can roll 500k miles plus.
And how many people want to drive around in a clapped out truck with 500K on it?

RE: Turbo pyrometer on 2013 Ram ? Long Story

When I bought my '07 Ram with the 5.9 CTD and 6spd manual, all the sky is falling types on the internet had me believing the pistons were going to melt right out of the block if I didn't have a pyrometer.
I called Cummins NW and chatted with a tech. He basically told me that you couldn't get a stock CTD in a Ram P/U hot enough to damage anything.
After watching the EGTs for a couple years and never seeing anything close to what Cummins NW thought were damaging temps,I decided to see just how hot they'd get.
On a couple long grades towing my fifth wheel,I purposely tried to get the EGTs as hot as I could.Sure enough, it didn't matter what combination of gearing or speed I tried, the temps just didn't get hot enough to damage anything.

RE: Getting 2013 1500 Silverado Today, oil consumption questions

I never recall having to add any oil to the 5.3 in my '07 Tahoe in the 100K we owned it. Towed 5000lbs regularly.

RE: Experiences buying through Costco?

I didn't buy through Costco, but priced some rigs through Costco. The Costco dealers were absolutely no pressure. They verified your Costco membership and then showed you the price. Its basically take it or leave it,no negotiating.
IMO you can pretty easily do better on price than Costco. But,if you want a decent price without having to haggle with the dealer its a good option.

RE: Shocks for HD Trucks?

I put a set of Rancho 9000s on my '01 2500HD. The novelty of adjusting the ride lasted about two minutes. I ended up maxing out the stiffness and never touched them again.

RE: break in period

It's not a matter of opinion, the manual says to put 500 miles on it before towing so the gears in the rear end get seated in properly.
The manual doesn't mention anything about the gears. Thats an RV.Net assumption.
What the manual actually says.
For the first 500 miles.
Keep the vehicle speed to 55mph or less.
Do not drive at a constant speed,no full throttle starts.
Avoid downshifting to slow or stop the vehicle.
Avoid hard stops.
No trailer towing.

RE: OLM & Change Intervals

IIRC the majority of the vehicles on that list have direct injection. One of the issues with DI is fuel delution. It only makes sense to revise the OLM for those vehicles.
As far as Toyota, not all their vehicles have a 5000 mile OCI. My wife's Camry is 10,000 miles.
I've seen enough used oil analysis on GM engines to know that the OLM works fine when not subject to the fuel delution of a technology (DI) that is just starting to be be embraced by manufacturers.

RE: Problem at a loss of Ideas

New tires have more tread depth and haven't had any heat cycles to break them in. Both contribute to that loose feeling.
It'll go away shortly.
