RE: Brake job cost?

If you want to replace the seal, repack the bearings and adj the brakes when your done, it's more like 1/2 hr per wheel. That's what the estimate would have been back when I did that.

RE: how to safely deenergize capacitor

Just take a screw drive between the posts and touch them with the screw drive at the same time. This will short out any power in the Capacitor.
50 years ago the teacher in school told us to do it that way, use a screw driver with a plastic handle.

RE: new tv or fixing up the old one...

Why does a GMC 3500 need bigger brakes or exhaust? were the brakes big enough the first 80,000 miles? If so just fix it if the brakes arn't big enough on that one they won't be big enough on a 2010 version either.

RE: Is our summer trip out West too ambitious?

On those one nighters, you drive all day get somewhere and then leave the next day. What did you see and when did you see it? Not enough time or to many places.

RE: what signs for bearing failure

If the TT wheel passes you maybe the bearing is bad. Heat or grease on the rim are two other ways to tell

RE: Opinions wanted.

Ford says a regualar cab 2011 F150 with 145" wheel base, 2 wheel drive and a 5.0 has a 2100 lb payload but with the heavy-duty packages it's 3060 lb. I would NOT do it with my F150 for sure.

I wonder if the empty weight has something to do with it because my SUV empty weighs 500 lb more then your GVWR.
