RE: Buying a used Generator

If one is patient you can score on a good used generator. I diligently watched the local Craigs List for almost a year for a Honda 2000i. Some came and some went. I finally got up one morning and lo and behold there was a new listing for a used one that was for a good price ($650). I got on the phone and made contact and liked the description and asked if they would hold it until I got there with the money. The nice man agreed and I hot footed it over to his house which was just over an hours drive away. When I arrived I looked at it and asked to see it run. We ran it for 15 minutes from a cold start then with a 1500 watt load from a portable heater. I didn't walk, I ran with it to my truck. He told me it had about 4-5 hours on it and had been stored for about 4 years with no fuel in it. (The serial number later confirmed the age.) Close examination, at home, showed no dust in the cracks and crevices, no heat coloration around the muffler area, and the outside was pristine. I have had it slightly over a year now and it performs beautifully.

RE: Livingston Texas Weather

Targaboat is correct. If you are concerned about rain etc; go to www.dryday.com. The site lists long term weather and the percentage odds for rain or clear weather.

RE: Pahaska Tepee, Wyoming

We have stayed at Yellowstone Valley Lodge & RV Park. Full facilities and a good restaurant. Wifi was only available in the lobby of the inn. They had a good pool and the staff were friendly. Would stay there again.

RE: Does Insulin Require a Prescription?

FWIW. I get my Insulin by prescription plan and it comes for 90 days at a time ( 4 10ml vials) in a cooled insulated box. I set one out and use that and keep the rest refrigerated (not frozen) and take it out as required. Sams does sell it across the counter at a reasonable price. If you are entered into their computer system you should have access just about anywhere. A prescription would be good insurance and save any problems. Sams also sells syringes at a much better price than the drugstores I have been to, $12.48 for 100. Most of the other places I have been to want about double (or more) than that.

RE: Sea Breeze RV Portland TX

Stayed there in August. The roads are a little dusty and things were very dry due to drought. People were nice. Showers and pool were clean. Had good breezes and a fishing pier on the bay. S-I-L caught several fish there. Be sure to visit the aircraft carrier Lexington and you might also try the restaurant next to it called Pier 89 or Pier 99 or something like that. I really liked their boiled shrimp and beer! wife has agreed that we will be doing that park again!

RE: Next Exit

Look at www.truckstops.com. They publish books listing 6500 truck/RV stops across the country with information on parking, eating and other info. The best part is that it lists stops off the Interstate highways as well as on them. I personally have found it very useful. ~$15.00 + S&H.

Ask your question at www.myrvtalk.com and I think you will get the answer you are looking for. That is the forum that replaced the old Sunnybrook forum. Somebody on there probably has owned the model you are asking about.

RE: Water Heater Fireball!

You said you checked the burner chamber; but did you check the exhaust tube/vent? My poor little Atwood would go Boom on startup. Short story, long mess around, Had a dirt dauber nest in the U shaped exhaust tube where I couldn't see it. When I finally found the nest and removed it everything started working like it was supposed to.

Clorox and Lysol come in spray cans. That's what we use. Doesn't go bad (in a reasonable amount of time). Saves the mixing etc.

RE: Manual slide operation question

When I had that problem I traced the wiring because I knew it wasn't the battery (They were new). I found the controller that operates the slide and the connections were starting to get loose. Tightened them up and presto! the slide now works great.

RE: Checking out places to retire in the West! Suggestions?

Just got back from Ft Davis, Tx. What a neat little forgotten place. High in altitude, quiet, isolated, and has reasonable weather year around.
Another place we like is Great Falls, Montana. Of course we are prejudiced as that is where our latest grandchild is. It is a great place and the people are sure nice. My only problem is that it drives my allergy nuts. I found out that after growing up Alaska and passing the age of 53 I don't like or want any part of snow.
Two great places! Three, if you count Alaska!
Good luck, safe travels, happy camping, and a wonderful retirement!

RE: Capital Reef to Zion NP

Year before last we took hwy 12 from Glendale, Ut to Torrey, towing a 30ft. TT. I wouldn't have missed it for the world. What beautiful scenery! The drive was not a problem at all. Of course my wife didn't like it and had her eyes shut during part of the ride but she sure missed a lot. The best way to do it is like everything else, take your time! Slow and easy will get you just about anywhere, safe and sound.

RE: Meet Me in Montana (Summer, 2011)

Went to Great Falls, from Conroe (Houston area), last year to see our new grandaughter. Took interstates most of the way but deviated in north Texas and Montana. Going up we took highway 87 from Billings to GF. Good road, hardly any traffic, some scenery but little in the way of towns and service stops. Road conditions were 2 lane but good. This was in June. Coming back down to Yellowstone we took 87 to 191/3 to 12/3 then 3 to Billings. From Billings we went I-90 then 72 to Wyoming 120 to Cody. Same comments about the road as 87. Thinking about doing it again next year and if we do we will go the same route.

RE: Atwood Water Heater questions

If you are getting a blowback on ignition, check for an obstruction in the exhaust tube/pipe. I had the same problem and after reading this forum I went back and double checked the exhaust tube. It turns out that I had a dirt dauber nest in the U turn where I couldn't see it by eye. I used a magnetic mechanics pick up tool to slide it in the tube and dislodge the nest. Works great now without the blowback on ignition.

RE: Re-Fueling

Again I say; check out "The Rver's Friend" or "The Truckers Friend" which is the same book. It lists 6500 truck stops both on and OFF the Interstate highway system. I got mine off the internet. It is published by a company in Florida. I think it was $15 plus shipping.
