RE: Does stress itch??

Question on the Wee Cleaner. Can you get it at Perco or PetSmart or do you have to order it? It sure sounds like something I could use right now for dogs and other things.

RE: Homemade Liquors

My favorite fake Kahlua!
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup instant coffee
1.75 liters high quality vodka
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 whole vanilla bean
Combine the sugars and water in a small saucepan. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat. Stir in the coffee, a little at a time! Allow to cool completely.
Pour into a large plastic container with a lid. Add the vodka, vanilla flavoring, and the vanilla bean.
Cover and let stand for 2-3 weeks or until fully aged. Kahlua, when properly stored, can last safely for up to a few years.
That's all I have to share with you!

RE: Homemade Liquors

This is my favorite fake Irish Cream!
1 cup light cream, I use half & half
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 2/3 cups Irish whiskey, I use Bushmills
1 teaspoon instant coffee
2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract, can use up to 1 tablespoon
1 teaspoon almond extract
Combine all the ingredients in a blender set on high speed for 30 seconds. Bottle in a tightly sealed container and refrigerate. The liqueur will keep for at least 2 months if kept cool. Be sure to shake the bottle well before serving.
Makes 4 cups

RE: Corn chowder recipes

I don't even have a recipe for corn chowder it's so easy! I cook a couple of potatoes in water to just cover till done. Lightly smash leaving some texture. Stir in a can of good quality cream style corn and a can of milk. I have also added a small can of diced green chilies. Season with salt and pepper. Stir and heat. That's all there is to it. Been making corn chowder like this since my grandmother showed me how, a very long time ago!

RE: Oil-less Turkey Fryer

I bought one for my husband several years ago and while he can't use it anymore I can and I really like it. I got the Charbroil Infrared Cooker. I love deep fried turkey but I am not able to handle lifting the turkey out of the hot oil, to short! The infrared unit sits down lower to the floor so I don't have that problem. The taste is very similar to the fried, I highly recommend it.

RE: What can Gretchen eat???

I use the green beans as a weight control for my small dogs also but use the canned, no-salt French cut style. Works just fine for me and my kids. I would be careful giving the pumpkin as it can cause, shall we say, loose stools! It's great if they need to have a clean out tho.

RE: Corn Cob Maple Syruple

I've made corncob jelly, and while it's been a long time ago I remember that it was really good. I would like to try the syrup but have a problem finding the corncobs!

RE: Homeless Cat -- Now Spot the Christmas Cat

Thanks for the info on the keyhole garden. Wish you luck with them, I now grow only in large nursery pots. No fighting Bermuda, and don't have to bend over, a plus when you have bad knees!

How large are you keyhole gardens? I just had to look the concept up on Google since you talk about so much! It's a very interesting concept, will be great if it works for you.

RE: What to use on Pet Urine in Carpet ?

And to soak the liquid up before you use whatever to clean I like to use Bissell's Little Green Machine. It will suck up the urine and then you can use the cleaner that they recommend or whatever you like to finish cleaning it up. Love that machine, it has sure saved me a lot of paper towels and work.

RE: Sandwich Filling - homemade

Somewhere I have the same recipe, it's from my grandmother. She clipped it from a newspaper many, many years ago! Glad to see it's still being made today and enjoyed.

As long as you can eat I say go for it! When my mom was going thru radiation therapy she lost her appetite and of course weight. A hard way to get that done.

RE: Oder in crockpot

You can also try wiping it down with a vanilla soaked rag. We have use this many times to save ice chest that had fish carried in them. Smells better than vinegar to!

RE: New Cast Iron question

Thanks for all the help! I have an electric stove with the coil burners so I think that may have something to do with my problem. I'm going to try the oven heat treatment today and see if that does it, it's cold enough that the extra heat will feel good!

New Cast Iron question

Hoping some of you can help me with this problem with a cast iron griddle. It's an old round griddle with an 8 on the front of the handle and a S on the back and a heat ring which tells me it's old. I've had it so long I don't remember when or where I got it! Problem is seasoning it in the middle. I use this all the time and always heat and grease it when thru cooking but there is a section in the middle that always looks dry no matter how much Crisco I put on it. No problem with any of my other skillets so this is really bugging me! Do any of you have any ideas on what causes this and what to do about it?

RE: Almond brittle

Does your recipe call for raw peanuts or cooked? My recipe calls for raw and with that I would put the un-toasted almonds in at the same time as the raw peanuts. Microwave peanut brittle is my very favorite homemade candy!
