RE: Roll Call Alaska 2013

Thanks 2gypsies, It is the bear things I was worried about most. I guess it would have helped if I had mentioned that. :S It was plain as day in my head!!! :o DW and I have lived in north county for about 25 years. Neither one of us are from Missouri. Hoping to sell the S & B and do some full timing.

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2013

Time to draw on the knowledge base here again. We have a screened enclosure we can put up, big enough to go around a picnic table. We use it so we can keep the bugs out when we eat. With those saying they put everything away at night, would that include this enclosure when staying at places like Denali Campgrounds (including Teklanika) or state/provincial campgrounds? We would not use it while boondocking, but we were wondering about in a campground.

RE: 2013 Milepost is available

Thank you, joe.b. I have seen some places in the MP where it says the road leads to a pond or lake or something. I will drive while the DW keeps track of our progress in the MP.

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2013

I know I have too much time on my hands, lol I, for one, am glad you did. This will be our first trip to Alaska and this thread has been great. The packing lists, places to see, the things to do, tips, warnings, all have made our planning better and more enjoyable. And there is the anticipation of seeing fellow Roll Call Alaska 2013 travelers along the way. Words of experience are always good for the rookies. Thank you for your efforts.

RE: 2013 Milepost is available

Sue.t, I would ask this question of you, but others are welcome to chime in. As I read my new Milepost and see all the "pull outs", are these pull outs ok for spending the night? The description on some of these locations talk about scenery that sounds great. I can't imagine much better than to sit outside and stare at the mountains for a while. Well maybe it would be just as nice to wake up and open the 5'er door to see them. Departing in 6 weeks!!!

RE: Roll Call Alaska 2013

hi, Is anyone else planning on going to Inuvik and then up to Tuktoyaktuk? I have seen tours online for $280 and up but have also read forum posts (not this forum) that talk about charters being much less. Evidently if you fill an airplane, 6 or 8 people, it can go below $100/person. DW and I hope (no real schedule) to be in Inuvik around June21st-25th. If others are going to be there around then and would be interested, I will email the charter/tour company and see what is fact and what if fiction.

RE: Planning for next year...Orlando Area

Thank you for all the replies. Yes, I go to rvparkreview a lot. Down south looks a bit sounds less expensive which is good. We do have annual passes to WDW so we don't want to get too far from there.

RE: Air Compressors - AGAIN!

I have an earlier model of that compressor and what I described above is what I use to fill my G614 tires to 110 psi. Once you get the compressor running it will pump the tire to the same pressure it would the tank. Look at your tank when the tank is full to see the maximum pressure the compressor will really pump.

RE: yet another tire question

What donn0128 (and others) said, check the tire pressure in the morning, before you drive and unless there is something out of the ordinary (one looks really low), don't mess with them the rest of the day. I have a tire temperature and pressure monitoring system. What I have seen is that the tires do not heat up the same and the pressure does not change the same. It would be a guess to know how much air to put in a specific tire once you start driving. I sometimes put my tire pressure gauge on my seat in the truck to remind me to check the tire pressure before I start the day.

RE: Air Compressors - AGAIN!

You need a minimum of 150 psi to easily fill the 110psi pressure you need. I have found that I can easily fill my 110 psi tires using my craftsman 125 psi compressor by allowing the air from the tank to get low enough to start the compressor pump. Once the pump has started, it will easily push the 110 psi needed for the tires. If you have 110+ psi in the tank and start to fill the tire, the pressure will drop below 110 psi but it may NOT start the compressor and will therefore NOT push 110 psi. However if you drain the tank pressure just enough to start the compressor (just bleed a little air out), you are home free.

RE: disney world questions

Here are a couple of links to Forums that can answer a lot of questions. Disboard Fortfiends I believe privite electric cards are allowed. DW and I have been to WDW around 30 times, maybe 10 to FW. I always see people that try to do everything in one trip, there is too much to do. You end up getting too tired and frustrated and not enjoying things as much as you could have. Figure out what you want to see, plan your day around that but leave some time to just enjoy. There are a lot of details at WDW that can be fun. There are fun thing to do at the Fort also. If you are there long enough, plan a day just relaxing around the campground. I think if you ask some specific questions, we might be able to help a little more. HAVE FUN

RE: Custer State Park, or NFCG in area

I have to second Custer State Park. Last time we were there we were in a 5th wheel but tent camping, IMHO, would be great too. We had animals in the campground (sheep, deer), and every morning we would take a drive around the Wildlife Loop to find the buffalo. We would also find the burros and feed them, they were left by the miners when the gold ran out. Also saw lots of antelope, turkey, coyote, goats and prairie dogs. LOTS of prairie dogs. I have to admit that I did not see as many fish on the end of my line as I would like. I saw fish, just not many at the end of my line. There are also trails and we found it fun to sit around the camp fire. We found someone who sells firewood out of their yard. Go west out of the park to the town of Custer. LOTS cheaper than in the park.

RE: Planning for next year...Orlando Area

When my DW finally revolted and declared "No more theme parks!" we went further south to Ft. Myers. LOL, understand. Right now both DW and I like Mickey, really enjoy walking around EPCOT or Fort Wilderness. We were thinking of trying for a seasonal job there. Who knows what the future brings. It looks like there are 4 or 5 places that might work well.

RE: Planning for next year...Orlando Area

Thank you to everyone for the responses, they look like good places. This first year, at least, we are interested in the Orlando area. I know it can get cool (cold to some) in Orlando but we are ok with that. Any other inputs are appreciated, especially personal experience. We are really looking forward to next winter.

Planning for next year...Orlando Area

DW and I plan to start full timing this summer and next fall plan to winter in Florida. We do not know exactly when we will get south nor where we want to stay. I wanted to ask those that were/are in the Orlando area if there were many open sites this winter. We plan to spend some time in a state park while we look around and decide on a winter spot (maybe 3 or more months). Were the RV parks full or was there plenty of room? Also any recommendations would be great. Thank you for any information.

RE: Denali, Tek question

Using the basin by the restroom was answering the dish washing in a bucket question, guess I didn't specify. The literature does says to dump waste and fill fresh tanks before heading to Tek.

RE: Denali, Tek question

Hi, DW and I will be in Teklanika in July. When we made our reservations, they sent an email with the following link. 2012 General Campground Information It has this information: Dispose of gray water at the following locations: - Riley Creek Campground: use gray water sinks near the restrooms; clean food particles out of and rinse sinks, dispose of food particles in bear proof trash cans, and close doors when you leave. - Savage Campground: dump gray water in the flush toilets, not in portable toilets. - Teklanika Campground: use gray water basins near the restrooms; please clean food particles out of basin and rinse with water from a spigot. The NPS website has: "Restrooms can be found throughout the campground. Potable water is available at spigots throughout the campground. " Hope that helps some. I am interested in hearing more from those that have been there.

RE: 12 volt Problem

Thank you for the replies. It was just a little 400W inverter and I did not have anything plugged into it, just the fan running. I was interested in seeing if my new LED TV and DVD player would work off the battery (not that much power.) I never got to the point of plugging the TV and player. The lights dimming is not consistent. Most of the time they work fine but at times they wobble and sometimes they go dim. The front basement has a fused power panel, I moved the wire to the rear lights to a different connector and replaced the fuse but the problem still happens. That is what makes me think it is downstream from that panel. Grounding could be the problem. Does anyone know a good place to look for the grounding wire for that part of the RV? Again, thank you for the input.

12 volt Problem

I am having trouble with the 12 volt system in my 2007 Carriage Cameo. In the rear of the 5'er, there is a 12 volt outlet. When I plugged an inverter into the outlet it squealed like a stuck pig. When I put a voltmeter to it, the reading was only 11.2 volts. I checked the batteries at the terminals (front of 5'er) and it read 12.5 volts. We did have lights on but 11.2 volts seems way to low to me. We have also had troubles with the lights in the rear of the RV dimming and sometimes not coming on at all. I suspect a loose connection but I am not familiar with the electrical distribution. Is there a power bus in the rear where the lights and 12 volt outlet are connected? I doubt it is a broken wire but not impossible. Any help with the wiring and/or problem would be appreciated.

RE: Can I refill my propane along I-75 south?

I think the Flying J south of Chattanooga, TN you are talking about is the one at Resaca, GA. Exit 320 on I-75. Going south on I-75, take the exit off the interstate, turn left at the stop sign and cross over the interstate, you will see it on the right. The LP fill is by the RV fuel lanes off to the left once you pull into the parking lot. You will see a sign that says CAR and RV (not the truck pumps). Pick up the phone or go inside for service. If you have one of their RV cards or their charge card, you get a discount. you can check online to see what the LP price is at each Flying J.
