RE: WNY early camping recommendations?
I think many campgrounds start opening in the beginning of May around here. Association island is nice but windy, even if it is open that early with the added wind it could be really cold. You could check Jellystones web page to see if the book that early, but none of the water park stuff will likely be available yet. Not sure how far you want to travel but for state parks I'd recommend Keuka or Sampson. Hamlin or lakeside would be closer to you but I can't provide a recommendation

We don't camp for long periods but I do the same thing I do at home. Shop once a week, have a menu for the week and try to stick to it. There is always a backup plan if some meal doesn't sound good that night or something goes wrong. At home it might be that jar of spaghetti sauce and camping it might be pie iron pizzas.

I currently have no preference. Our current dog is not a good camper so he doesn't go with us. I agree with what others have suggested, have a pet area and a non pet area.

Welcome, CamperKelly! Yet another Rochesterian here, also awaiting spring. We have been to Association Island and really liked it. We will definately go back. I'd also recommend checking out Keuka lake state park and Sampson state park. We are lucky to have many great places nearby. Have fun and happy camping!

Maybe I should sue this forum because of the amount of time I spend reading it. Nah, maybe I'll sue my parents for introducing me to camping almost (ack) 40 years ago. Maybe I'll sue my husband for buying this iPad. Maybe I'll just take responsibility for myself.
