RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 09-10

Thanks for making the clicky, Shirley.
Becky, thanks for the update on the Golden Corral. We drove by there tonight. The parking lot looked like a car dealership it was so packed and lit up. It's going to be hard to get in there. Did you have to wait to be seated very long?

RE: Activities, Attractions, Dining, Rio Grande Valley TX 09-10

Neighbors took their rig to SPI for the Sand Castle days. They said the red tide was so bad that they couldn't get out to see the Sand castles. Too bad.
The Monarch butterflies are migrating. Each afternoon we can see thousands of them flutter over. It looks like something out of a Disney movie. Here is a link with info on the migration. http://www.learner.org/jnorth/monarch/fall2009/Update102209.html
Rv'ers arriving at the park this week said they had butterflies plastered all over the front of their rigs.
Went to Don Wes Wednesday. Not many vendors open yet but a great time to shop for t-shirts. No crowds and you never know who you will run into there. Hi Becky. It was good to see you again.:)

RE: How many of us are waiting for the SOLD sign?

Covetthesun: Thanks for the info explaining the changes in the appraisal process. My realtor had explained it to me also. Are these requirements for appraisers throughout the nation or just MO? My realtor also said that the appraisal is good for six months and that appraisers are nervous because of these new guidelines so appraisals are coming out very low. While I understand that the over appraisal of properties is part of the problem in the downfall of the economy, under appraising is not going to get the economy back on it's feet. When your house has to be comped to short sales and foreclosures a true appraisal IMHO isn't possible.

Oh I forgot. If the water was not turned off you could stay in the house and it's kind of a pain to turn it back on. We look forward to seeing you two.

RE: RV Forum Group ( RV.NET Rio Grande Valley Gathering)

The organizers for last year's get together put in a LOT of work! We want to thank them for all of their hard work. We really appreciate all of the time and effort that they put into the event.
We hope it is OK if we offer some ideas for this year's event. If we offend anyone, we apologize ahead of time.
Last year was our first time to attend. We found that we could not walk around and get acquainted with people at the Horseman's Grill once everyone was seated at the tables. Once we were seated, we could only visit with the people across the table from us. The problem was that the noise level was so high that we could not hear the people across from us. We were concerned that the music would make it even louder so we left early.
A suggestion: Are there any places outside in a park-like setting where we could walk around and chat with people? The food could be a simple picnic with brats. It could even be a pot luck with brats. Ask people to bring a lawn chair for sitting.
Last year it seemed that the prize drawings lasted a very long time.
A suggestion: If people would like an Rv.Net t-shirt, sell them for cost and have people indicate that they will be buying one when they sign up for the event. That way, door prizes can be minimal or none at all. But everyone would be able to go home with new friends and a t-shirt!
Last year we left at the beginning of the music. We usually avoid concerts or loud events.
A suggestion: Just focus on people getting acquainted instead of entertainment. Start out with the large group for the picnic but then break into smaller groups based on interest. "Pull up your chair here if you would like to talk about...." For example, start with smaller groups of people by region such as all those from the 5 state area of MN, Iowa, Wisconsin, SD, and ND all meet in one area. The purpose would be to see who is there from your 'neighborhood'. After a period of time, reshuffle and have people who would like to talk about traveling into Mexico (or other topics) meet in one mini-group. Generate a list of topics from now until the gathering starts. We could reshuffle a few times and that way we could meet more people in smaller settings.
The location for next year's gathering does not have to be centrally located. That limits the options. This is a once-a-year event and we (speaking for ourselves) would be willing to drive a little further.
Just ideas....
Having this event at a park would be nice, however, as you can see it is planned several weeks in advance. We can't rely on the weather being suitable for an outdoor event.
Seems to me a lot of folks leave when the free stuff is gone.
Since the t-shirts are donated from RV-net it would be hard to charge for them.

RE: RV Forum Group ( RV.NET Rio Grande Valley Gathering)

I was not at last years get together , but have been to other events (weddings) where the music overpowers the reason why people get together . I guess I am getting old , as I remember when music was an important factor . I know if the DW and I were attending a get together , no matter how much we wanted to attend ,if the music got too loud, we would ask others to join us, leave and go to a place where socializing would not be inturrupted by the "urge" to celebrate by loud music . Make sense ? I know this thread is formed about the "get together" but it seems the issue of loud music has come up . Must have been a problem for some . Maybe a social peroid of sorts for a couple hours and then all you loud music buffs can have at it and us "old folks" will leave at our liesure .
No, DaSu the music was not loud at all and quite mellow. It was quite good. Actually most people left before the music started. About a dozen of us stayed until the entertainment was over.

RE: When Do You know You Have Enough ?

Our good neighbor started four tomato plants from seed for us. Two of them are already 2 feet tall. What about your pink petunas that you had in pots outside the house? You could just hang Ronnies clothes from the ladder?

"Are you going to a nudist RV park:?" :B That's funny.
All of our cabinets are bulging. Probably should put on a helmet before we open any.:B All the storage bins are full and the storage under the bed is full, so are the closets. Guess we are "packing challenged";)

RE: When Do You know You Have Enough ?

Apparently we don't know how much is enough. This will be our third winter in the valley and we have so much stuff with us the only way to get into our bed is to climb in from the bottom. We have boxes of "stuff" on each side of the bed. Apparently we are much too attached to our "stuff". :R Oh yes we are going on a 21 day cruise in November so we have two large suitcases in the coach, a small frig in the toad along with a satellite dish, a small propane tank and two coolers. Sure we made a list. It just grew.
I do have a portable file box with all legal documents, all of our checks, medical receipts and last years taxes. We start out organized but it doesn't last long.:E

RE: WHO chief says Swine Flu has "pandemic potential"

In the fall of 2006 I was working for the Department of Defense when managers were advised of the potential for a worldwide pandemic flu virus within the next 10 years. The strain would be of an unfamiliar origin and therefore a vaccine would not be available before millions were infected. That to me is why the cause for concern. I would rather see the government being overly cautious than to ignore this issue. See the below link.
