RE: Class A in this campground is to big with toad...

Ok congradultaions on learning to drive your rig in tight places. Now to play devils advocate, what if the perfect line you attempted turned out to be not so perfect and you are now forced to unhook your toad while half-in you site and in a bind. You will in most cases now be blocking the campground road for several minutes or more while others are trying to use that same road, that's a good way to endear yourself to your fellow campers. I bring up this point because twice I have been blocked by people who "just missed" that perfect line and spent many minutes, one was 20, trying to get un-hooked and out of the way. Usually pays to think more about what happens if a plan goes wrong than right Yes, paranoid thinking is always the way to enjoy your trips. There are a million things that can go wrong with any trip and you cannot avoid all of them. The OP did the RIGHT thing, considering his coach and his driving ability. To speculate on a bunch of "the sky is falling" scenarios is just ridiculous. The fact that someone was blocked in by a driver that did not know what he was doing has absolutely no bearing on drivers that DO know what they are doing. I have seen RV owners get stuck in fueling stations where hundreds of other RV owners go into every day without a problem. Some people just can't drive their rigs, period. The only way to avoid bad drivers is to stay home. The OP knew what he had to do and did it, end of story. I should'nt reply to your rant but I just cannot help myself, Believe me I am not paranoid and I do enjoy all of my trips immensely. I was just taught to think of how my actions, in all aspects of life, might adversely affect others and try to avoid those situations if possible. Handling a RV in tight quarters is a great skill and even better when done in a way that minimizes potential bad results. Have a good day, end of story.:)

RE: Former Head of FBI Hired To Investigate Pilot Flying J

Louis Freeh investigating??? Do that want the investigation to last forever and come up empty handed? You obviously don't remember that Louis Freeh headed up the Penn State/Sandusky situation and cover-up. Did not take long and came up with some definite findings.

RE: Jacksonville, Fl. Traffic ?

I have done both by-passes but prefer straight thru but like most big cities try and miss rush hour.

RE: DW won't drive

My wife will not drive the coach and never would drive the truck and FW. There is no need forcing her to do something she is afraid of because that is asking for disaster. I have taken a different tack. We tow a Ford Edge and I have insisted that she know how to unhook and hook-up all by herself. We tow 100% of the time therefore by knowing how to make the toad usable she can maintain mobility. Let's face it a true emergency will most likely involve first responders and ambulances. She feels very comfortable with the toad process and at least know's she could get us to help if needed.

RE: Typical emergency road service?

AAA left my wife and daughter stranded on a rural road at night with a flat tire, left me stranded on interstate because they don't dispatch for diesel fuel, left another daughter stranded on the side of interstate for two hours before they called back and said they did not have an contractor in the area which was only 15 miles from Tampa! CoachNet has been great in the 3 times we have called, quick response and follow-up.

RE: I-75 Travel

I made that trip twice last year towing a 7000 lb. trailer. Just be ready to down shift on the way up keep your momentum and rpm's up, don't rely on cruise control like my buddy did (lost momentum behind a school bus lugged engine till the temp warning buzzer came on, I took over at the next exit ramp). Stay in that same gear you crest the top with, have your exhaust break on and be ready to stab the brakes occasionally for short periods to slow yourself down and you'll make it fine.

RE: Highlands Hammock - A Florida State Park

We camp at many Florida State Parks, at Stephen Foster White Springs now, but they have a long way to go to match the beauty and charm of our neighboring Georgia State Parks. Georgia seems to put more money back into their parks while it hard to get a level spot at most or our Florida parks.... Georgia at least cuts the grass and weeds.. We are kind of disgusted with the way our Florida State Parks have been run the last several years. I don't know what Florida parks you are staying at but I will definitly disagree with your broad brush indictment of Florida parks. I have stayed at 5 different parks in the last year and have not once been dissatisfied with the condition of the park from the foliage to level sites to the restrooms to the workers. In contrast I have been in 4 Ga. parks in the last year that were ok but nothing special. One park we had to move twice to find a level spot and another had so many broken branches on the roads and sites we had to stop and clear them out and another with rude employees who could have not cared whether we were there are not.

RE: Florida State Park Road Trip

While you are at Lake Louisa just a few miles south of you at Lake Wales is Bok Tower Gardens. Well worth a few hours of your time. I am not a garden kind of guy but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Check out their webshttp://boktowergardens.org/ite And would you people quit recommending Myakka River! No wonder I can never find a spot there.:)

RE: Starting a diesel every 30 days.

Where's the beating a dead horse thingie? If you're not going to give the vehicle a good workout, a half hour drive or better, don't start it. So every time a shop/dealer moves your unit from the lot into a bay to work on it he'll take it for a 30 minute ride? Same thing when they are finished and moving it back to the lot? You every take an initial test ride in a MH for 30 minutes? Now I agree that continued starting and running for only short periods probably will induce maybe some small greater amount of wear on components but some of you people need to be a little more realistic especially in giving advice to people who are new to MH's and diesels. Some of these post's are so dogmatic on this issue as to be funny. Now before you all start replying that I don't know what I am talking about, I have been around diesel engines since my early days on the farm. I at one time I owned 6 large diesel tractors,3 diesel PU's and 2 Mack cabovers and diesel engines on 8 rice wells. I wasn't then or now a mechanic but I darn sure was the guy paying the bill's if something went wrong. If we needed to start a tractor to move an implement around the yard, we did. Start the Mack to spot a trailer a few yards, did it a hundred times and never had to go into an engine for repairs in fact as far as I know all of these units are still running on my cousins farm today without major repairs. I guess my point is,especially for the new guy, some of this absolute "don't even start it unless your going to run it" is not the doom and gloom it's made out to be. Don't make a practice of it but ocassional running for short periods on these engines is not a death sentence.

RE: Replace 60 lb propane tank with removable 20 lb tanks

I have got to laugh at some of these reply's that deal in absolutes like "any" and "all" dealers will do refills. I can assure you that in the small town where I live the 2 LP dealers will not come out and fill a MH tank an cannot re-fill you at their bulk plants because of the lay-out. The local ace hardware would do it but again you cannot get a MH into the refill area. In Georgia at my hunting lease it is the same thing no and no. So it is not always that easy and I do carry an extra 20lb tank just in case I cannot find a spot where you can refill a MH.

RE: Rear Radiator vs Side on Diesel Pusher?

On whatever coach you chose side radiator and slide out generator allows for much easier inspection and repairs and can save you on repair costs over tiime.

7500 onan problem

What would cause the 35 amp circuit breaker on a 7500 to fail to reset? The gen was running when I flipped the breaker and now it will not reset. Prior problem to this was an issue that apparently I was only getting 120 bolt to only one leg of the transfer switch not two. Any ideas

RE: 2011 Edge battery charge issue

Well in a few hours I am going to start out on an 8 hour trip, will pull fuse #29, stop every three hours to start the Edge and see how it goes. The previous owner, who also towed this vehicle, suggested a fused charge line to Edge battery so if the fuse pulling does not work I will give that a try. I will report back as to results.

RE: 2011 Edge battery charge issue

No nothing left on went through my normal tow procedure making sure everything was off. That is excactly my concern, is that in one hour with no major items on the battery should not be going dead. Right now am searching to find out how to turn the battery saver mode back on.

2011 Edge battery charge issue

Problem is that the last two times I towed the Edge, only about an hour each time, when I went to un-hook I saw a message on the screen that said "battery saver mode is off" and the battery was dead. I have towed this vehicle in the past 6 months up to 4 hours at a time without the battery going dead, so what has changed? Any ideas what the battery saver mode is, I cannot find it in the manual? Local dealer is absolutely no help, so what about it other Edge owners, any ideas?
