RE: Need wiring diagrams for '05 Discovery pusher

Hi Ryan,
Sorry to hear of your problems.
We have the very same coach. Well it may not be the exact model number, but it is the same brand and year. Ours is a 39J model.
We actually had what sounds like the very same problem about one year ago. We had to take it in and they found that all of our house batteries were bad. They replaced those 4 batteries and it has worked like a charm ever since then.
Think that I would try to get it in for some service.
Good luck, Larry

RE: Hump in Carpet

Thanks for the info.
I'll have my ex-son-in-law tackle the problem. He does hardwood floors now, but use to be a carpet installer.

RE: World Famous garden in Missouri

Sorry that I may have mislead you with the suggestion that it be the Powell Gardens. It seems obvious that I was incorrect.
Thanks and once again I am sorry.

RE: World Famous garden in Missouri

I would say that it is very likely Powell Gardens. It is located about 30 miles east of Kansas City on Highway 50. This is however about 210 miles north of the Branson area. We have not been there in the past 4 or 5 years, but it was totally fabulous when we were there.
It is well worth the time to visit. You can look at their web site and get a much better idea about it.
You could just come on westward from the ST Louis area on I70. Then turn and turn and go south on Highway 65 and go to Sedelia and then turn back west on Highway 50. Powell Gardens is just a few miles west of Pittsville, on the north side of the highway.
Then after your visit to Powell Garden you could head southward down to the Branson area. If you have a chance when you go through Sprinfield make a point to stop at the Bass Pro Shop. It is easy to find and well worth the visit.
Good luck and enjoy your trip.

RE: New 08 Fleetwood Bounder Problem

It sounds like you may have one of you drain valves open and it is allowing the water to drain out. Look in your lower storage comartment that is over where the water is draining. Our Discovery has a drain valve on the curb side, but both of our possible input locations is on the opposite side. One is in the water compartment and it is a threaded connection for your hose to connect. On our unit when you use this connection to fill the tank you also have to turn a lever beside that connection and this allows the water to enter. Otherwise it will block any entry. Then above that compartment we have one of the small locked doors that sort of looks like a fuel filling door. This one is so that you can just slightly insert a hose in the opening without without any threads.
Curious about the water that you put in the coach. Did you eventually fill up the tank? Did the volume register on your gage up in your power management area? Could you hear the water entering and filling your water heater? Is the water bypass valve turn correctly to allow the water to enter the water heater?
Does water flow out of your various faucets, shower and outside shower?

Hump in Carpet

We have noticed that our carpet in our living room area of our coach has apparently become somewhat unattached as it has a noticeable hump along the front of one sofa that is probably about 4 to 6 foot long.
It seems as though it is even more raised in that area when our one living room slide is brought inward. But it is still quite evident when the slideout is extended outward. :( :o :M
Was curious if other folks have had any similar problems like this and if so, what did you do to solve this problem. I have not looked at it real closely but presume that the carpet has become unattached back behind the one sofa and as the slideout is brought inward it is sort of dragging the carpet inward.
I certainly do not plan to replace the carpet, but just eliminate the noticeable hump. We haven't as yet but the hump is actually large enough that could cause someone to trip. :E
Is this carpet affixed to carpet strips such as those in stick and brick homes ?
Is their any easy solution or should I just have a carpet installer re-attach the carpet ?
Look forward to your suggestions. :@

RE: Nervous Nellie

Here is another welcome to the forum.
Great bunch of very knowledgeable and helpful folks here, that are eager to assist.
It probably wouldn't be a good or healthy idea to lock your wife in the bathroom, :B so I would also encourage that she sit at some other location that has a seatbelt and do lots of reading, napping, or listening to an ipod or other type of stereo.
That would really be great if you could convince her to help you out with some of the driving. I can't get my wife to hardly even touch the steering wheel let alone do any driving.
Mine does an occasional gasp or something a bit fouler than that, but she doesn't mind my driving.
Good Luck, Larry

RE: DW wants a new TOAD

I'll agree that the new Smart Car is really a very cute little car
http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss10/LarryJo_2009/image1.jpg
However I really think that it is somewhat like a small coffin in any kind of half way serious vehicle accident.
Here is a picture of an accident that a Smart Car was involved in somewhere in the New Orleans area. I can not say for certain but I would imagine that this accident had very tragic and fatal results.
http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss10/LarryJo_2009/image2.jpg
I really don't mean to dampen your wife's enthusiasim but I would be very leary to ride in one of these vehicles and would much less want my family or pets to go along.

RE: Road Side Insurance

I am sure that you will get a wide variety of responses on this topic.
Seems like everyone thinks that whatever they have must be the best there is.
We initially contacted USAA who had handled all of our auto and home coverage for over 30 years.
After much more indepth research we found that Progressive Insurance offered us much greater coverage in several respects and they were really quite a bit cheaper overall. A couple of other companies would have been even a little cheaper than Progressive, but we would have had to switch over our other 4 vehicles, which we didn't want to do.
One year later I had an ugly and embarrasing accident in which I was obviously at fault. Hate to repeat it but I backed over the top of one of those little 3 foot or so high roadside guard post that look like a short little telephone pole. This caused over $ 7K in damages. Here is a picture of the ugly damages; :o :S
http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss10/LarryJo_2009/MVC-002F6.jpg
As expected our policy costs increased about $500. the following year. Then the next year it dropped back down to about $200. above the original costs. Then for the past 2 years it has dropped down to less than it was originally. Received a letter from the company this year saying that it will continue to be reduced by 25% for each year that we do not have a claim.
At that rate in a very few years, I guess that they will start paying me to have their coverage. :B
Overall we have really been very pleased with the service that we have received from Progressive. You will hear some folks say that they had a bad incident or service from Progressive, but we have been very well pleased.
Sorry for this long winded rambling, but I didn't see a way to condense it much and still get my information across.

RE: Remote control TV antenna

In concept it sounds like a great idea and would likely be well
received by most RV'ers. Even if it did not automatically rotate around to find a stronger signal, I think that the feature to have it automatically go into a safe traveling mode would be a great selling point.
We are much like Skip in regards to the fact that our current antenna is not extremely sensitive as to the precise direction the antenna needs to be turned in order to receive a very good picture quality.
The only time that it matters much at all is on the really far distant tv station locations.
Larry
PS: I rather doubt if many RV'ers today would pay a very hefty fee
to have this kind of an add-on feature, installed on their
current RV's.
It might be much better received or desired if it was an
available option when people are actually selecting a new RV.

RE: Discovery electrical issues

Hi there,
I am by no means knowledgeable of the electrical circuitry but we do have an 05 Discovery, model 39J, with the 330 Cat engine and I can share a little bit of info on it.
We have a total of 6 battery's, 4 of them are the deep cell 6 volt and these are referred to as the house battery's. These 4 are all connected in series.
Not quite. That would produce 24V. What you have are two groups of 6V batteries in series tied to each other in parallel, i.e., two in series + two in series connected in parallel. Electrically the same as two twelve volt batteries in parallel.
Then there are 2 each 12 volt batteries.
Sorry but I can not say how or if these are batteries are connected, other than the fact that they are sitting side by side in the same compartment.
Those chassis batteries are connected in parallel.
From what I understand these are the starting battery's for both the engine and the generator set.
Differenct makes are wired differently as far as Generator starting. They could be starting from the Chassis batteries or from the house batteries. The only ways to tell are either from a schematic or physically tracing from a set of batteries to the generator.
I am sorry but we are presently away from our coach and I can not take a picture of any of this and share it with you. I would think that seeing a picture of how the battery's are connected might be very helpful for you.
It sounds to me as though something is just not quite connected as it should be. Our converter box is located directly above the 2 starting batteries. When you plug in the shore cord to some power you should notice that on the front of the converter box a little green light should flick on.
We had problems with our house batteries about a year ago and we had to have the 4 six volt battery's replaced. We had the work done at a reputable RV service center and they have worked great ever since then.
It sure wouldn't hurt anything to go ahead and contact the Fleetwood folks. They have always been very courteous and helpful to us.
Sorry that I can not be of more assistance.
Good luck, Larry
Like I said I am certainly not proficient in any kind of electrical circuitry or appropriate technical terminology.
What I was meaning to say is that we do have 4 each 6 volt deep cell batteries in one compartment. They are all connected. Whether it is called "In Series" or "In parallel" or whatever, they are all connected together !!!! I was led to believe that these are the house batteries.
Then we do have 2 each 12 volt batteries in another compartment and they are also connected in some manner. I have been led to believe that these are referred to as the chassis batteries and they start both the engine and the generator set.
Sorry if I used the incorrect terminology.

RE: Ft Myers Beach Camping

Sorry to hear of that news, but its seems as though now days everything is zooming upwards in dollar figures, except for most salary's and annuities. :W
We stayed at the Red Coconut a few days back in the summer of 06, but haven't been back there since then. It was pretty nice and a bit costly as I recall back then. I really thought that they did give us a discount of some sort, but don't recall the details.
We were there in the early August time frame so they were not full to capacity so that may have played a part in the discount.
The closest other place that we have stayed at near the Red Coconut was at the Harbor Lakes Resort, just west of Port Charlotte.
It was very nice and good sized, but is about 10 miles or so from the beach.
Hope that you can find another nearby suitable location.
Good luck, Lsrry

RE: Tow Master Tow Dolly seems a bit crooked

They will normally pivot fairly easily. I always carried a short little crow bar with us and if I needed to I would just use that tool to force it in which ever direction I wanted, in order to make it perfectly straight. Or at least straight in my mind. ha
Once your vehicle is up on the dolly it should pivot on its own as you make slower sharp turns.

RE: Looking to buy a used Dolly

I would highly recommend and encourage you to buy a dolly that has one type or the other style of braking function. The heavier the vehicle weighs that you tow is the harder it is for your motor home to slow down or stop the dolly and the vehicle.
Just be patient and continue looking for a descent used dolly that has some type of brakes.

RE: Adding bleach to Black tank ??

Yes it is fine to use bleach in your black water tank.
You might want to do a search of the word "Geo". We have used it for quite a while and it has worked great to help with the overall dumping process and with keeping everything smelling fresh.
There is a lot of info available.
