RE: Deviled Egg Recipes

oops. Oops? Did you drop an egg? Nice recipe responses. Plenty of material for the card file. The one comment about piping the puree, best trick I ever learned, makes the filling process just right.

RE: How does battery charging work?

I found a great description with diagrams from crankshaft to belt to alternator to battery in a typical modern car system. I'll link that when I get home tonight. Added some good in-depth lay person understanding to my question. And here it is: charging

Deviled Egg Recipes

All that talk of deviled eggs in the Hard Boiling Fresh Eggs thread got me thinking, what's your Deviled Egg Recipe?

RE: How does battery charging work?

Hi, Both batteries will charge when in the "all" position. You could add an "amp-l-start" so that both would charge from position #1. amp-l-start Don, thanks. I'm holding off on dual charging switches like amp l start until I find out if my simple needs require the extra hardware. Boat is kept at home. Was just planning on recharging backup battery monthly or after heavy use.

RE: How does battery charging work?

Good news The Perko will work just fine for your application I expect your inboard uses a traditional automotive alternator (with a few changes) and regulator assembly which is a MUCH more robust system than the outboards use. But as you stated do NOT turn the batteries off when under way otherwise you will be spending $$$$ to fix stuff. You should be good to go Yes if the switch is in dual mode both batteries should be charged Why the switch? Do you have an electric trolling motor? The GPS controlled ones are great! Check out the Minn Kota line up The cruise control and virtual anchor functions are wonderful Back to the type of batteries your running Hope both are similiar as in Starting or Marine/RV dual purpose Enjoy the boating Two batteries. 1 for starting, the cranking battery. 2 for camping on the boat overnight for anchor light and stereo power (don't want to drain the starting battery). And peace of mind that if battery 1 dies, I could still start and get home with battery 2. No, the batteries are not the same. 1 is Interstate 27M-XHD for cranking, 2 is Interstate group 24 rV marine deep cycle for long term motor off stereo/light power. No to trolling motor.

RE: How does battery charging work?

This is part guess, I'm assuming that at the starter end several (at least 2) other wires attach to the same terminal as the battery wire. The Perko switch controls charging Position 1: 1 charges Position OFF, no charging Position 2: 2 charges Position both: Both charge Does this help? yes it helps sort of. i'm also guessing several wires attach at the other end of the battery cable. Your confidence in the perko switch controlling charging is reassuring.

RE: How does battery charging work?

Hi, Now we are talking my thing To answer your question we will need a bit more information Is the Perko switch a make before break switch? WARNING if not your boat charging circuit is at a very high risk of failure. If it is a make before break your OK so far What is the engine? outboard or inboard? Many if not most outboard engine charging circuits are VERY sensitive to no load condition and will self destruct in a few seconds. What is the charging voltage the engine is outputting? Typically the Yamaha's put out a constant 14.9 Volts which is too high for most batteries and will destroy AGM batteries very quickly Are you batteries the same types as in Starting, deep cycle, Marine/ RV, AGM, etc... Sure hope you enjoy boating as much as we do Simple Perko switch. Part No. 8501. "Always stop engines before switching to off position. Make-before-break feature allows switching between 1-all-2 positions with running engines." So I think I'm ok there. Inboard/Outboard V-6 Mercruiser. I don't know what the charging voltage is that the engine is outputting.

RE: We have mice....

I've started a war with my garage mice. Each night I just put a little cheese on a spring trap and each morning I check it. At four for $2 I don't even bother reusing the trap, just toss it and the mouse and set up another one. I tried the walk in can't walk out traps and never caught anything. Not willing to use poison because I don't want a dead mouse where I can't find it and get it. And there's something satisfying about knowing the mouse had an immediate death. I haven't found a better mouse trap. Just be consistent in your trapping and the family that found your rv home will eventually be eliminated. Inconsistency will allow breeding and repopulating time to occur.

RE: What does your RV forum name mean?

It's from boating. Launch the boat. Retrieve the boat. Two things that get done at the beginning and end of a good day.

How does battery charging work?

This is about my boat. That I take camping. So it's kind of RV related. I hate to admit it publicly, but I don't really have an understanding of this. Before I modified my battery system I had one battery with a positive cable coming from starter to positive post (also has what I think is the auto bilge pump wire going to positive post). And a negative cable from somewhere out of sight to the negative post on the battery. Somehow the lights and stereo and horn and blowers all work off this system and the battery gets charged when I run the motor cruising the waters. That's where my understanding ends. I've modified my battery system. Now I need to understand because I need to KNOW that my charging mechanism remains intact. I'll be worrying about this until I understand it. The new system is a second battery and a perko off/1/all/2 switch. The starter positive cable now goes to the common post on the switch. The original negative still goes to the negative post on battery 1 (this has been and will remain the starting battery) and the auto bilge wire still goes to positive on battery 1. New positive cables run from post 1 and post 2 on the switch to battery 1 positive post and battery 2 positive post, respectively. A second ground cable runs between negative posts on batteries 1 and 2. So, does battery 1 still get charged even though the cable from starter goes to common on the switch instead of straight to the battery? Yes as long as switch is in position 1 when motor is running? Does battery 2 charge when switch is in position 2 when motor is running? Do both batteries charge when switch is in all position when motor is running? How does charging work? After I start the motor is there a charge coming from alternator through starter to the connected battery while motor is running? And does the charging current follow the path through the cable from starter to switch common post to whichever battery is in use through position 1 or 2?

RE: Campers Booking Right Next To You?

This is funny. I know exactly what you're talking about. Still, if I want to avoid problems like that I put on my backpack, grab my compass (gps now) and topo and head off trail. I know, many can't do that, but the point, indirectly, is that campgrounds are not the place to find space and privacy, peace and quiet. It's nice when it happens, but ...

RE: Wal-Mart has doubled RV Service rates!

I've started patronizing a local mechanic for my vehicle needs. There's no loaner car, but there is a ride to/from home if needed, no 6 months same as cash credit deals, and the aesthetics of the shop are truly lacking in Martha Stewart finishing touches. What I do get in exchange is a relationship with someone who earns my trust and puts me at ease when I'm told I need to do something now for x dollars. I may pay more than I would at oil stop or walmart, but the peace of mind that comes with the relationship is priceless.

RE: Rental Car Insurance Coverage

Went with the rental company insurance. Hated doing it, but a chipped windshield or a door ding and I'd still have to pay my State Farm deductible. I "knew" I wasn't going to hit anything, but decided I couldn't control the behavior of others and didn't want to pay a 500 deductible. It was a small price for peace of mind.

RE: When did fishing get so expensive!

We have a creek running behind our house but no fish (freeway culvert and tall waterfall). Hubby used to fish but habitat degradation and people not catching and releasing and taking more than their limit cut the numbers. If you want an expensive hobby, try photography. Last October: $3000 body plus extra battery, L angle for tripod head, more flash cards, another external hard drive due to increased megapixels, etc. We don't gamble, drink, smoke, do drugs, dine out or other extravagant pursuits but glad Nikon only comes out with upgrade once every 2 or 3 years. But then, there are Photoshop upgrades and upgrades to plug-ins plus new Mac every 3-5 years, it never ends. lol, pretty funny spin on this thread. Yep, if we look at the price of our hobbies, look out!

RE: Rental Car Insurance Coverage

Appreciate the feedback. Always something new to think about, wouldn't have thought to consider rental car out of use fees and my insurance deductible vs rental deductible. Also need to check with VISA to see what they cover. Thanks

RE: Why we don't take our TT's off road.

Thanks for the post. Very fun and funny! I've always wondered how fragile the connection between tongue and ball is and to see what these trailers went through without detaching was surprising. I guess that worry is out of my mind now. I don't know why, but the bumper trailer moments had me in stitches.

Rental Car Insurance Coverage

It's the weekend so I can't call to clarify, but will on Monday, in the meantime just thought I'd see if there's any knowledge here about whether to get rental car coverage or not. I'm renting from Enterprise in San Diego (budget won't let me drive to Yuma for spring training game!). I know they will ask me at the counter if I want coverage. I have state farm insurance for everything. Should I opt for rental car insurance or will my insurance cover any damages from accident to scratched bumper or chipped windshield? If my insurance will cover these things will I still have to pay a deductible? The advantage of the rental car coverage at the counter is that there is no deductible and damages are covered (never needed it, but ...).

RE: san diego rv parks

Don't forget Campland On The Bay in Pacific Beach. Other than my first time there it's been a fun rv park. The first time was just culture shock. I had never put my trailer into an urban rv park before and the blacktop instead of dirt and close distance between adjacent trailers was a shock. Location is amazing. Price is another story.
